EASILY the best channel for beginners.
Wow, thanks!
I think this is a good list for starter and more but I would recommend to add jigsaw. this is a must saw for plunge cutting, circular and shapes... + impact driver , they usually comes in a kit of drill driver and impact. more important than nailer especially if you are working on outdoor projects , etc.
I am so thankful for this video..I'm purchasing a 10' miter saw today, so that I can finish trim work around my house. You have given me the confidence I need as a women to tackle it on my own...Thanks
If you can make loads and loads of practice cuts on wood you don't care about. You'll understand it so quickly. Nothing to worry about at all.
Good decision. I bought a 7 1/4" , and it's quite insufficient.
After watching several video's, i must say, i am pretty much convinced by your recommendations in this video...thanks a lot. Love from India
Your videos are so helpful! We just started woodworking and you ease our anxiety and answer so many questions! Thank you!
Thank you for this video and for your tutorials. It's so refreshing to find a DIY channel with power tools made by a woman!
I'm just getting started! This video is incredibly helpful. Checking out your channel now!
It's a good informative video. Thank you for being so much detail about the parts.
Great video. Love that you go into detail and also add mini videos when you're explaining into detail. Thank you!
Thank you for this! :) I was getting very intimidated by other videos recommending a lot of tools! This video reassured me that I don’t need so many to start woodworking! 😊
So happy you found it useful. I know how it can feel like you have to spend $$$ to make anything ! I have a lot of basic beginner projects on my site too! Be sure to check it out!
Super helpful, what a great start! Can't wait to explore the rest
That was a great demonstration.
She’s great, thank you
Very informative and thoughtful video; thanks!
Thank you again!! Great detailed instruction without the usual ego. Blessings!
Loved it
OMG!! Love the video!!
Perfect, like!
Thank you so much!! :)
Thanks Anika ,you explain so clear and the video so helpful ✌️
Very informative video. You are a good teacher. I love to do woodworking and have made simple projects, but I want to do more. Thanks for this video, now I know what to buy.
Thanks so much! I am so happy you found the video useful! Let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you Anika. Good information
A combination square, tape measure, tenon saw or Japanese saw, chisels and a number 4 plane. And as a bonus, a sharpening system which could be sandpaper, stones or diamond plates.
Really great descriptions....nice and simple.
Thank you!
I feel like you are watching me!! This is exactly what I've been looking for thank you!
I like your videos and website, thanks!
Great video😁
@anika - love this as I am just starting out (have made floating shelves and garage shelves). Just bought a Ryobi 10 in miter saw. As a beginner do you think it is worth buying a portable work table or just use the miter saw on the ground? I plan on eventually building a folding work bench but trying to prioritize purchases...love the page!
I love your videos.
WOOOW YOU ARE THE BEST REALLY ....LOVE YOU.
I watched your videos, you were great!!!!!!!
Thank you!!
It's FABULOUS to see other women of colour in the trades! Thanks for teaching and inspiring the rest of us :)
Would she be less inspiring if she was white??
I've taken a sudden interest in woodwork. Her explanations are simple and to the point. Enjoying the channel very much.
@@arctikbear but that couldn't possibly be considered racist. It's interesting to see where the racism actually lies on the political spectrum.
The Kreg rip cut guide is same link as brad nailer want to make sure you get credit when I purchase. Thanks for suggestions
I would like to see a tutorial on using a table saw. I can’t seem to make a straight cut and I’m not sure why. Thank you for all these great videos. They are very helpful!!
The subjects covered in this woodworking website t.co/z6o0f8z2H4 varies from wood types to tool types and uses. A few other subjects range from the various kinds of wood along with their distinct levels of difficulty when it comes to managing them. If you are still a beginner in wood working, then you will find this book very beneficial.
The link in the description for the Kreg Rip-Cut is actually the same link for the Brad Nailer.
Anika, if you can do it, I can do it as well. Thanks for giving me hope, two thumbs up :))
Again, thank you so much Anika. Very comprehensive; you answered some essential questions I had and confirmed that I should buy both a Kreg jig and a brad nailer. Can you please provide info about the specific brad nailer you have? Thank you.
Rebecca Salazar glad you found it useful. I have the Ryobi 18-gauge nailer.
Thanks Anika, this video was very useful. I am seriously considering adding a Mitre saw to my tool kit as I am interested in doing some more advanced projects - building a work shed right now and accurate cuts are essential for the framing - I can't see straight so every cut made is always a bit off 😅😂. Also getting an additional drill driver, I totally agree that one is ok but two speed up the project and they are a must have. I have been using power tools for years but only once in a while. COVID lockdown got me busy and I am using my tools more now. Your videos are great and it's fun to see another woman setting out information rather than the more experienced guys (no offense to the guys but they don't really cater for newbies). Keep the videos coming 👏👏👏- just subscribed.
A would say a drill is a must along with a circular saw and sander. An impact driver or 2nd drill are nice to have too.
The miter saw and table saw jobs can be done with a good circular saw.
I agree completely!!
Hi Anika,i remember that 1st desk you made
For your daughter
Anika it's not nessesary to buy a lot of tools, bcs after a while it will just collect dust
Thank you Anika
Yes, you are right
Interesting list. I’m a little surprised you waited that long to get a circular saw. I’m new to woodworking and appreciate your videos.
Its personal preference. To me, a miter saw is a lot easier for beginners to learn. Circular saw can get frustrating if the alignment is off
Could you do a video on measuring
Haha put up beadboard and that how I'm here...I borrowed a neighbor jig saw made my life way easier, so I bought one. I like Dremel circular saw and will buy next.
Great! I have tutorials on both circular saw and jig saw so be sure to check those out.
Great list. Definitely recommend beginners to have an essential set of tools on hand. As a DIY-er myself, I always recommend beginners not to compromise on the quality of their tools. I've always found good woodworking supplies online from D & D Woodcrafts. A good quality tool will not only last you longer but will also provide better result and performance.
I'm glad to see you're adding much more to RUclips! I think you'll go far with RUclips as your channel evolves :) figured I'd comment on a video now instead of a year from now when there's hundreds of comments :) I love your projects and the simplicity of tools used. Keep up the awesome work !
Thank you Danielle! My goal is to keep things as simple as possible for beginners.
Thank you. I would love to begin making things. Right now its wood and glue. small projects. My grandpa was a carpenter.
You can do it!
which sliding miter saw would you recommend? low to mid price range
What do you recommend for a very cramped up space where a miter saw won't fit? Can a jigsaw do the trick? I already have that one
Yes. The jigsaw can cut crosscuts and miters. It might get challenging to make more advanced cuts.
Hi, I have a 4 ft plank 3" wide and 3/4". I want to do a 25 deg bevel cut on both sides across the 4ft length. I did one side on table saw by tilting the blade. This was ok because other side length was 90deg running with the fense.
How do I now bevel the other side when the already cut bevel is not touching the fense for 3/4".
Just a tip - the link for the Rip cut jig and the Airstrike are the same; goes to the Airstrike. But very informative video!!!
Thank you. Did you ever use a handsaw? Thinking about those to save money.
Is that a 12’’ miter saw?
I didn`t intend to make use of this woodworking book, t.co/oLg9l5gL3F but rather curious about it. I had been truly amazed right after trying it. It never disappointed me in my wish to acquire more information about the art of wood working. Many topics were covered, including everything from wood types to developing your workshop.?
How is the ryobi miter saw?
Is the miter saw you have good for cutting moldings and baseboards?
Yes. It most definitely is
towards the end , i wanted to give her a BIG ol trophy
Do you have any recommendations for work benches/ cutting benches?
I use a 2x4 workbench built from plans on the Kreg Jig site. It is an easy project and it was one of the first projects I built
Anika, thx for all the advice. i am looking to build my tools over time. will starting with a jigsaw be better? i am anticipating a lot of projects ahead where I would need to cut straight lines (ironically, better fit for a miter saw), but I find jigsaw to be less intimidating and investment friendly. what is your advice for that?
Yes! The jigsaw is a great tool to start with for exactly the reasons you said. It is versatile and much less intimidating. Check out the articles on my website for guides on how to use the jigsaw to the best of it's potential! www.anikasdiylife.com/how-to-use-a-jigsaw/
Anika, what would be your advice to joining wood pieces when I don't have a planer or a jointer and only a jig saw. i am facing this issue as I take on building a tall table for my kitchen. The way I am thinking of overcoming it by not trying to get a perfect joins and instead a different (rustic, farm house type design that are forgiving). what would you advise? or should I invest upfront in an electric planer and few tools like those?
Links - Brad Nailer and Kreg RIP Cut are the same link. Thanks

Hi Anika, I am new to woodworking. What is the difference between a drill bit and a driver bit?
The drill bit is yo make holes and the driver bit is to drive screws.
@@Anikasdiylife Thank you.
Jigsaw, cirkular saw, sander, plungerouter and two drilldrivers is better to start with!
Have you tried making something just with a rip saw a Tennant saw and hacksaw, pen ruler 16 foot tape only two clamps a rickety work bench tube of glue hammer 1 chisel box screws 35 mm an a cordless screwdriver old screwdrivers a pallet an finally crow bar an mallet. Oh and hand sander
Is there a video showing us how u make something only using these tools
Oh yes! Most of my projects are that way. Check out the blanket ladder, a-frame desk, kid’s desk and other projects on my channel
Anika hey dude😄
Like ur vedios
Between the Miter Saw and the Circular saw, which would you recommend one to get first?
The answer to that one is - it really depends. Check out this article. www.anikasdiylife.com/miter-saw-vs-circular-saw/
I always recommend a miter saw to start with if it is in your budget and you have the space. It is a lot less intimidating and safer.
I bought the Miter Saw recently. Had a circular saw previously. It made a world of a difference. Still can't say which one to get first. At least I have both.
Try a impact driver
Hello Anika I'm watching from Botswana I would like to start woodworking projects and do them for leaving please help me with plans
Why do we need both miter saw and circular saw
dARN, i WAS HOPING SOMEBODY WOULD LIST THEM! I couldnt understand what #2 was.
Lara Greene I have a full post about the list and lots more detail and articles - www.anikasdiylife.com/woodworking-tools-beginners/
Number one is the is the hand saw than the circular saw.
first 5 tools speed square, machinist square, ruler, tape measure.
you say you can't build much without power tools... gee that is funny they used to build a whole house with only the tools they carried on their backs!
Great informative video. I would differ about your opening statement that "you really can't build much without power tools."
We have built homes, very intricate furniture, boats, weapons, bowls and flatware, overland transportation, excetera, with only hand tools for at ,least 1 thousand years, well before the introduction to power tools in the late 1800's, early 1900's when companies such as Stanley, Miller Falls, etc. were introducing us to steam powered machines and electric powered tools in the 1920's. I have a large 20" bandsaw built in 1928 that has the large flywheels that is electric. I did have to do some minor restoration to it such as the bandsaw table. It was neglected for the 60 years it was covered and stored away that needed to be cleaned of some rust, polished, and waxed. I re-apply a new coat of wax at least 1 or 2 times a year along with other tools in the shop. I also had it rewired with twenty-first century safety measures such as a new safety power cord with an emergency shut off switch, and a newer motor. It's one of my favorite tools in my shop and I feel blessed to have it in my shop. There is a channel on here Called "Mr. Chickadee, who has built his home, workshop, and is now working on a forge building. He and his wife have used 95% hand tools to fell a tree, turn it into lumber and constructed the building I have mentioned and more on his channel. His style is no music other than the music of the tools, and no over dubbing. He has a way of conveying how to do something without speaking and they are very interesting, that I think you may enjoy them. I have family hand tools from the late 1600's that I use along with some power tools on all of the gifts I have made for family and friends. When I use those tools, I have a seperate, branding iron with my family's name on it that I use on their gifts so they know that I used our family tools to make it with. It's my way of honoring my heritage and all of the family woodworkers before me that used those same tools to build their homes and the furniture with in them. We are a sentimental family. (And I am the first female relative to inherit the tools, but I share some with my brothers too.
CrossGrain Wood Products,LTD I guess I need to rephrase. I am talking about beginners who are busy with life and are weekend warriors and would like to build with wood. Obviously it is not aimed at people who are into hand tools.
please give subtitles . very difficult to understand.
u r too smart 🧠
Odar hev ar gandar machi
Thank you for this list! I've found a lot of videos (usually by macho dudes *eye roll*) insisting that you need thousands of dollars worth of equipment to just get started. I guess they had a lot more money than I do when they were complete novices.
Earlier today I watched a video by a "professional" and the title of his video was the only two power tools a DIY person needs. This video shows five. I have seen videos listing 10. The fact of the matter is that for a DIY type person, you don't need power tools. Yes they are handy but not necessary. For years power tools were not available. The hand saw, handplanes and a hand powered drill were about all that were available . It's more about skill and knowledge (or experience) than tools. I don't see the need for a miter saw if you have a "skil" saw that will do the same and more. You can only do 1 type of cut with a miter saw and a quality miter saw is expensive. Just my opinion. I am a semi professional with 40 years experience. If you're trying to make money then power tools are indispensible.
It is of course a matter of opinion. This is my opinion and also how I built up my tool list.
I disagree, I am terrible with making cuts using a circular saw. All my cuts are a disaster. Table saw and miter saw fix that immediately for me and I am able to make good clean precise cuts. I'm sure I can learn how to cut with circ saw with time and dedication but I'm not interested. I just want to build. I am not looking to be the best or gain skills as I do this for fun and to de stress. If I have to try hard at something I am no longer having fun or de stressing.
Pricesly Anika ,if you buy all of the tools, it's not nessesery at all, it's just a waist of money and some of the tools will collect dust
"You really can't build much without power tools." Look up "Grandpa Amu" on RUclips. He built a wooden bridge without power tools or even nails.
You showed well over 5 tools. And your title is just stupid. Wood working anything requires at least a dozen tools. Change your name to furniture maker. And where the heck is the TAPE MEASURE TOOL? dump the skill saw because your more likely to get hurt with that and buy a small table saw. Not impressed at all about your tool selection. But love you have a passion to make things. Rethink your video.
Jesus this is so cringey. Why on earth if someone actually wanted to learn something regarding tools, construction, repairs etc would they turn to you? My god
