thank you Pete and Midnight Oil for trying to wake us up to the devastating effects of colonialism. We just didn't hear it but we are seeing it now in Gaza and it is more horrific because we were conditioned to be docile to it. Thank you for your great music and your tireless activism.
Oh my God, this is one of the greatest concert i've ever seen, Peter Garrett is such a MONSTER frontman! I used to listen to them back in the days, and i'm a "poor" french guy who take conscience of ecology when they sang "Put down that weapon", song against biological weapon used by France (as i can remember), one of my personal favourite band of all times! Long live Midnight Oil
Seen these guys in live gigs all up and down and over and through Australia since back in early 80's...Never ceased to amaze me, entertain me, and make me dance and think about the message. Every cent I have spent on these guys has been more than worth it..45 years on and still rock my boat.
I'm from a small town in the southern US, and I have always loved Midnight Oil since I began hearing them on radio over here. They are fantastic! And their hearts are in the right place. Great messages.... We need to be listening! Sad that we won't be seeing them anymore, but they have made some great music!
@@pellelindbergh4455 AC/DC also lost one of the Young Brothers - bassist since the beginning , lot long ago . Sad but the Bands still go on ...thats what counts the most .
So sharp, so oils, so sad. This gig is timeless, no old fools going through the motions here. Cant believe we've lost those wonder ful backing vocals on one country, the bass player had the voice of an angel. So sad but also so glad he entered my heart. 💔
Saw them in Paris 15 years ago ! One of my Best live show ever ! (With nick cave, pixies, leonard cohen, 16 horsepower) Pure rock n’roll, amazing musicians, amazing songs. Respect ✊
loved them from afar for so many years in Americaland. This performance is so inspiring in the best middle of the desert how far from the nearest ....? This 2hrs of MO is just amazing as the sun goes down in the terrain they sing so profoundly about. Watching the temp change over the sunset. Would pay handsomely to be able to go back in time and be in this moment. Hearing MO in the desert!!
I drove out to Birdsville to work for the entire Bash. Two thousand kms from anywhere significant...but no wuckers as the Oils flew into Sydney 2 nights before from an 11.30pm GMT finish at live a gig in Hamburg(?) Germany. They left Sydney early the next morning and 3 flights later arrived in Birdsville to do a midnight accoustic soundcheck as the Bash slept. On stage before sundown at 5.30pm next evening... and all pushin' late 60's! And Bones made a more impressive exit than the US Forces did from Afghanistan last week....just sayin'!
@@kingywhu It was in the Werchter side ( near Leuven ) of the Torhout / Werchter festival as they called it back than . Midnight Oil and REM or Lenny Kravitz were there as well .
Its a long shot on my bucket list but if I ever visit Australia I hope to see these guys, and hopefully in the desert just like this show! Anyway, I have not listed to these guy... well maybe this millennium more than a few times but oh wow - I never gave Peter G the credit he deserves for being one heck of a front man! Also, forgot just how much I loved Warakurna, Dead heart, and others. So sad about Bones - RIP brother and rock on in the great beyond! But I hope these guys keep rocking because for me, they represent a better time on this Earth.
Massive loss to the music industry, but his music will always remain with us. To be there watching and listening to Midnight Oil in the Simpson Desert is indescribable.
Thanks for sharing - this was a great gig. Travelled 1900kms one-way to be there - and I'm on the video at 00:15 RIP Bones - the bassist with the beautiful voice - miss you. Can't wait for the Oils to perform @ WOMADELAIDE March 2021
You really need to listen to this on a good pair of headphones to capture some of the power of this performance !!! Thanks for posting this great video.
I’m French, and been a Midnight Oil fan since the album 10,9,8,7…… To me, this is the best live band ever. I’m so sad they stopped the band after their last release (which was astonishing as ever) I hope Bones is rocking in Heaven. Long live Midnight Oil.
I've been a Oils fan since the 70s. I only heard of Bones passing recently and felt sad. He gave so much to the Oils, their fans and even other bands he was in like The Swingers. I was thrilled the Oils did a tribute in 2019. Take care car Oils band; Bones is watching and rest in peace Bones 🎶🔴
This is an amazing concert, reminiscent of the Goat Island concert in a strange way. Incredibly striking that not only was this Bones last concert with them, but that he featured prominently in the last song. I saw them on the Resist tour, and I have to say they lost a step then and you could see age starting to set in. It was still a good concert, but when I look at this video and think back to the Great Circle concert I saw in Oakland, they were absolutely at the top of their game. So in my mind, this is the last great Midnight Oil concert.

Saw them yonks ago on the beds tour in the UK and loved em ever since. Was a nightmare for music lovers when he went into politics but we all understood if not missed the big man. This was awesome.
Huh? The band was always into politics. If you just listened for the music, you really missed 90% of the emotional impact and substance. The power of the songs is that they sing about political and social issues. They are anti-war, pro-environment, pro-equality by nature. If you don't get that, you never understood the band.
Love it!! Outstanding! This is amazing! Thank you for uploading and everyone for their efforts! maravillosooo,,, como me hubiese haber estado ahi,,,, CHILE MINING,,,, They haven’t dulled with age! Awesome!
