    Interesting video although from my experience status credits can be earned FAR cheaper. For instance, it's quite common to see red e-deals between Sydney and Melbourne or Sydney and Brisbane for $100 which nets you 10 status credits so $10 per status credit. JetStar can also be quite a good deal too having flown Sydney to Darwin and Sydney to Perth on a Max fare for $330 AUD which earned 100 status credits. The best deal I've found thus far though was flying Sydney to Auckland (via Melbourne) for $1000 AUD in business class on Qantas. This was booked during their double status credit promotion meaning I will earn a whopping 480 status credits for $1000 in spend. Not bad! Another "trick" I use is to maximize the benefits of cancellations. When the airlines cancel my flights I try and book in as many connections as possible since that will attraction additional status credits at no additional cost to me (other than time I suppose).
    Now for flying in the US, the key thing to realize is Qantas doesn't understand US geography at all. A flight from Chicago to Seattle will earn the same number of status credits as a flight from New York to LA (in business class that would be 100 status credits one-way). Hence, a trick would be booking a trip where you cross the Mississippi thereby forcing Qantas to think you are travelling between the east coast and west coast of the US. For instance, instead of flying San Francisco to LA direct on AA you could book it as a connecting flight through DFW. In a business fare that would earn you 400 status credits (100 status credits from LA to Dallas, 100 status credits from Dallas to SF). That's just a start too! Flying between Hawaii and US West coast there's a similar trick too!

    Note that not every airline refers to it as Status Credit.. on BA it's Tier Points for example.
    And on American it's Loyalty Points which unfortunately are based on $ spend...
    A$8/SC is also rookie territory for Qantas.
    A few years ago (particularly when AA F earnt as First rather than Business) some multi-leg segments to the Carribbean could go as low as A$2/SC.

    Do you get lounge access with the First ticket alone? I thought the stingy US airlines limited access to status only. Take off may have been aborted if another plane was late exiting the runway. Saw an ATC video about that today so just a guess. Thanks for all the great videos as always.

      On domestic itineraries with AA, Stefan doesn't have access using his first class ticket but rather it would be using his Oneworld Emerald status courtesy of Qantas Platinum. If you're an AA or Alaska elite, you only have access when flying on Int'l itineraries

    @davidmcafee5331 Год назад +1

    Jetstar regularly do $39 fares for Sydney to Melbourne or Adelaide to Melbourne. You don't earn any SC on the Starter fare but upgrade to a Starter Max fare for an extra $85 and you earn SC's at the QANTAS flexible economy rate. This would net you 20 status credits for $124 each way which works out to $6.45 per status credit. If you are flexible with when you fly and don't mind booking months in advance, this is an easy way to get some cheap status credits without relying on a double status credits promo

    Although u can earn more SC by flying other airlines, you need to also fly min. 4 trips of QF flight to maintain the QFF Plat. status. I suggest ppl to look for double credit status promotion. I buy all my tickets in one go (Buy saver/Flex) and get to change the date with min. penalties then enjoy the SC boost.

    I also wondered what credits you are getting. Qantas? How do you get them? Do you have to book using the Qantas website only? I have never been able to book a flight on the One World website using my Qantas points. Can I do that or do I have to only ever use the Qantas website to book?

    • @peterhastings703
      @peterhastings703 Год назад +1

      You should be able to book with cash on any OneWorld airline and add your Qantas frequent flier ID to the ticket. You'll get the status credits and Qantas points credited to your account after your trip. I'm in the BA scheme and have done it with Iberia, American and Sri Lankan.
      If you want to use your Qantas points to book OneWorld flights, you'll probably have do it through Qantas - unless they have a relationship with other airlines that allow you to do it - for instance I could now book direct on Qatar using my BA Avios.

We did that to a Virgin flight in an R44, they were just about to roll as we lifted off, only to have them tell us to get back on the ground or remain stationary because supposedly the SOP’s don’t let them continue if there is unaddressed Traffic. Very cool!

    So here is my recent points booking story
    Qantas FF over 2 million points many from Amex business etc
    But haven’t flown much last few years as we all know why
    So have a business interest in NYC
    Decided to book a flight First Class using some points with dear old Qantas the former great airline
    I deserved it ok
    I wanted to go in February next year not peak time so thought points and pay yes !
    So they wanted ALL my points yes ALL plus nearly $12k too
    Then I thought I’ll check the cost of just buying a FC seat
    Price ? $17000 return
    Conclusion over 2.5 million points is worth $5k
    It’s a rip off
    A Qantas rip off
