They are Italians and they are the Weird Al Yankovic of the European metal scene. Their lyrics are intelligent, profound and hilarious. The idea is that they are mocking the overly seriousness with which the European bands are more or less taking themselves. Nanowar of Steel are ambivalent in this regard because their style is actually traditional power metal. Musically their style is a 100% tribute to the style but lyrically is a parody. If you hear their song “Norwegian reggaeton”, they are parodying the Nordic black metal scene with a vanilla reggaeton, that has references to everything, including the Beatles. They are amazing. Basically not the heroes we need, but the heroes we deserve. No one is safe with their habit of picking go fun or everything

    • @chips7

The band itself, yes. I guess what confused them was maybe Thomas Winkler aka Angus McFife. He's actually Swiss and because IKEA was involved and many U.S. citizens are confused about Switzerland and Sweden (not the same, not at all ;) ) that's maybe why they brought up all the countries.

The prayer is changed from "Adonai elohenu" to "Odinai elohenu", Adonai being 'Lord' (whereas Yahweh is the name of god). In "Shema Yggdrasil" instead of "Shema Israel", Yggdrasil is the sacred world-tree of the norse mythology. When it says "FALEGN-AMEN" it's a wordplay from italian ("falegname" means carpenter, like Jesus). Systembolaget is the swedish government-owned chain of shops with a monopoly on selling spirits. The "horse meatballs" mentioned refer to the fact that IKEA has restaurants inside their stores where you can eat these meatballs that apparently everybody loves, but a couple of years ago in an IKEA store an accident happened where some horse meat had ended up being used for the meatballs, which made the news. Sasha Grey is a former pornstar. Nanowar of Steel were originally named Nanowar as a parody of Manowar, then when Rhapsody changed their name to Rhapsody of Fire for copyright reasons, Nanowar changed to Nanowar of Steel. You should react to their "And then I noticed that she was a gargoyle"!

Concerning the raping and pillaging, I'm pretty sure they're simply referencing Viking culture as Vin said. There were, in fact Swedish Vikings, and IKEA is a Swedish company. Swedish Vikings called, "Rus" settled a little place called Russia today! And, as a side note, the wife was gesturing to a box which they zoom in on with an instruction booklet labeled "Kallax", which is an IKEA shelf unit. That's what the dude is getting depressed about, as she is saying that it needed to be put together.

The Rus actually settled in Kiev- modern day Ukraine- hence they were know as the Kievan Rus.

    • @Green-Lyon
      @Green-Lyon 7 месяцев назад

@@Greatkingrat88 While you're certainly not wrong, about the "Kievan Rus," here are Encyclopedia Britanica and Wikipedia giving relevant Swedish/Scandinavian & Slavic specifics on the Rus which I was going off of in my comment:
      Encyclopedia Britanica, "Sweden/The-Viking-Age":
"Swedish peasant chieftains secured a firm foothold in what is now western Russia and Ukraine and ruthlessly exploited the Slav population. From their strongholds, which included the river towns of Novgorod and Kiev, they controlled the trade routes along the Dnieper to the Black Sea and Constantinople (now Istanbul) and along the Volga to the Caspian Sea and the East."
Wikipedia entry on the Rus ("Rus' people[History]"):
"Having settled Aldeigja (Ladoga) in the 750s, Scandinavian colonists played an important role in the early ethnogenesis of the Rus' people, and in the formation of the Rusʹ Khaganate. The Varangians (Varyags, in Old East Slavic) are first mentioned by the Primary Chronicle as having exacted tribute from the Slavic and Finnic tribes in 859...
The Varangians being first mentioned in the Primary Chronicle suggests that the term Rus' was used to denote Scandinavians until it became firmly associated with the now extensively Slavicised elite of Kievan Rus'. At that point, the new term Varangian was increasingly preferred to name the Scandinavians, probably mostly from what is currently Sweden, plying the river routes between the Baltic and the Black and Caspian Seas."

Yggdrasil is the "life tree" in Norse mythology. From its branches you find nine worlds. One of the is the world of the Gods (Asgård), another one is the world of mortals (Midgård). There is also Jotunheim, which is the world of the giants (which is what Thor usually kills with his hammer, Mjölnir). More details can be found here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yggdrasil
Regarding the Hebrew words, Vin explains it just after 9:05 in the video.

Basically everything written in capital letters is an IKEA furniture line. The lines they sing after that in the lyrics, are basically descriptions of said furniture.
I think the whole plundering lines are both what the Vikings did, and is allegory for the old testament. The lines about now being a carpenter are allegory for the new testament, plus it fits well with the whole IKEA slant to the song.
It's all very intelligently written, because a lot of the lyrics make sense on multiple levels and in multiple ways.
    Ps.

These guys are boss level jokers and trolls. Their own RUclips channel has Vevo in the title and at the time people were afraid to react to this because of copyright strikes Vevo does, it was just a big joke for them. They actually had to go to reaction channels to explain the joke.
They even have a video of IKEA react to this video and it's just a bunch of furniture with a laptop on it playing this song, just to see how many views it got.🤘🤘
Absolute legends of comedy. Nanowar of Steel is even a tongue in cheek reference to their fellow Italian power metal freinds Rhapsody Of Fire.
Every song is gold! Also featuring guests, this one
The glorious Angus Mcfife.( not his real name, his character in Gloryhammer).

The "Christian Christmas" Sori saw was a feast and a decorated tree, both traditions taken directly from Jul, which I take a subtle jab at how modern Christmas traditions are all just cobbled together from other cultures.

IKEA is huge in europe. Close to every household has at least one item from them. Every IKEA furniture has a swedish name. And in europe many people know at least a few IKEA products by those names. Some people are so obsessed with this brand that you could say it is a religion by itself :-).

IKEA sells furniture which you have to build yourself. Each piece comes with a booklet with instructions on how to build it. The guy was holding a book on how to build an IKEA-brand Viking ship. The words were IKEA furniture brands. The woman at the end of the video was showing the guy a piece of furniture in its original packaging, waiting for him to build. Sasha Grey is a famous pornstar. The European regions they mention were where the Vikings basically raided or lived, and the stuff they were praising about was usually what happened when a village was raided. Someone mentioned that Nicaragua and Azerbaijan were theorized Viking landing sites. Yggdrasill is the world tree from Viking mythology.

I think what you miss is how important IKEA is to Sweden. It is their most famous export. The Old Testament-New Testament link is interesting, but they are really just making fun of the fact that Sweden has gone from being known for Vikings to being known for a maker of furniture that you assemble yourself. Even the list of places they sing about includes Normandy, which was granted by the French to a group of Vikings to stop then from raiding France. The Normans who took over England were descended from Vikings. That is why the early Norman kings (the Plantagenets) were blond.
