I can't believe you had Devil's Triangle in your Top Ten. I never considered it in my top KC songs, but I can tell you I play it every Halloween for the trick-or-treaters. What a great, haunting soundtrack!
Hey Pete , Paul from Murietta California. Love the new top 10 songs list. Would love to see you do a show on blues guitarists, I know how much you love Gary Moore, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Rory Gallagher etc. Don't know if you've listened a whole lot of Jeff Healey, man could that guy play. It's a bummer that somebody these great blues guys are no longer with us
Amen to all of those. Although my knowledge of Gary Moore is in his Hard Rock/Heavy Metal output in the 80's. I really should check-out his 90's Blues stuff, though. I remember when those albums came-out, but none of those songs ever got any kind of radio airplay, and I wasn't brave enough to just buy them, sound-unheard.
I honestly don't know more than a couple of King Crimson songs, sadly enough, but now I really need to check them out. I only ever had their debut, and I really only ever played "21st Century Schizoid Man" and "In The Court Of The Crimson King." I've heard "Elephant Talk" but it was only that one time when they were the Musical Guest on the TV sketch show "Fridays" (in 1981, I think). Definitely need to check them out a bit soon. You know, in baby steps, which is how I have to do it.
1) Starless 2) 21st Century Schzoid Man 3) Larks Tongues in Aspic, Pt. 1 4) Fallen Angel 5) One More Red Nightmare 6) Sailor's Tale 7) Fracture 8) Thela Hun Jinjeet 9) The Sheltering Sky 10) Lament Honorable mentions: Level 5, Frame by Frame, Elephant Talk, Red, Larks Tongues in Aspic II, Sleepless, Satori in Tangier

Woo! That was a lot tougher than I thought it would be. My first KC album was the 1976 A Young Person's Guide to King Crimson on cassette and I played that thing to DEATH(well, until I put it onto mini disc). That comp had a lot of influence on my decision making. My top 10: 1. Starless 2. Epitaph 3. Red 4. The Court of the Crimson King 5. Trio 6. Indiscipline 7. I Talk to the Wind(A Young Person's Guide to King Crimson version. REALLY love this version) 8. Elephant Talk 9. Formentera Lady 10. Cadence and Cascade

Easy Money 7. The Night Watch 8. Red - title track, grest riff by fripp 9. In the Court of the Crimson King 10. Thela Hun Ginjeet - Discipline
Further raving- King Crimson are at SPAC August 23 2021! Will you be attending? If so,I hope to give you a wave! My big news: Live nation was giving me trouble so I contacted Fripp and he in true King Crimson fashion gifted me with two tickets! He said go to the SPAC box office and tell them I'm Dale Haskell and two tickets with be presented to my hot little hands! It probably doesn't put Fripp out to have me and a pal on the guest list but still very kind of the man! It more than one would hope for. I've been in touch with Fripp and Toyah during lockdown so perhaps they thought,"Hey,let's gift the man with some comp passes. After all,he's a true Crim-Head and has all the swag-EVERY box set, collector's club, been a fan since he was 12!!!!!! Let's be nice to him! the only thing better,Pete was if you were to read this on the podcast and mention my buddy Keith Fotheringham, another true devotee of all things CRIM!!!!!! Many thinks!
These videos are so awesome...and inspiring. Top 10 KC songs; can't exactly rank them, but I think I've got 'em; one of them may, or may not, be a cheat...you'll see what I mean 😂. This is fun. In no particular order: The Court of The Crimson King Cadence and Cascade (gorgeous) Book of Saturday Cirkus The Night Watch (beautiful) Red title track Frame By Frame Neurotica (nuts!!!) Starless (of course) Larks' Tongues title track (1&2)
My favorite Prog band. My King Crimson Top 10 1. Larks' Tongues In Aspic (Part 1) 2. Larks' Tongues In Aspic (Part 2) 3. Red 4. Easy Money 5. 21st Century Schizoid Man 6. The Court Of The Crimson King 7. Starless 8. The Great Deceiver 9. Indiscipline 10. Epitaph
1. The Court of the Crimson King 2. Epitaph 3. Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Pt. 1 4. Starless 5. Cirkus 6. Red 7. Pictures Of A City 8. I Talk To The Wind 9. Thela Hun Ginjeet 10. The Great Deceiver I find the quicker I do these, the happier I am with the result.
Hey Pete I’ve been watching your videos and I’m right on the same page with your vast appreciation of art prog. Don’t have all of the Crimson’s albums but I certainly own a copy of “ Court “ as well as “ Larks “ and I do have some early 80s material. Actually love that song “ Sleepless. “ But a couple of times you mentioned John Wetton. I can only assume you’re a fan of the band “ UK .” Love those guys and the 2 albums they did.
Pete... I can understand about seeing Krim play Epitaph live. Greg Lake sings it perfectly but, hearing Jakko sing it in person is absolutely mesmerizing
Awesome video Pete. I only have heard In The Court Of The Crimson King. I must check out the other albums. Love your number 1 pick with Epitaph. Great channel, your knowledge is phenomenal.
Been wanting to do this a week ago but just now getting around to it. It's hard to narrow down my top 10 King Crimson songs because I have a few extra, so I'll make them Honorable mention. 10) Lament 9) A Sailor's Tale 8) 21st Century Schizoid Man 7) Red 6) Night Watch 5) The Court of the Crimson King 4) Starless 3) One More Red Nightmare 2) Fracture 1) Larks' Tongues In Aspic, part 2 And now the Honorable Mention: - Devil's Triangle - Epitaph - Lizard (all parts) - I talk To The Wind ( Judy Dyble- vocals)
Epitaph is one of my all-time favorites tunes...shame there's no original version on the 'tube...I can't even listen to the remixed or remastered version of the song that you find here on youtube.
10. Sleepless 9. Fracture 8. Formentera lady 7. Frame by frame 6. One more red nightmare 5. In the wake of poseidon 4. Lizard 3. Exiles 2. Twenty first century schizoid man 1. In the court of the crimson king ....Son hard to choose just 10........
I've taken some time to think about this and still not entirely sure but have come up with a top 10. 10.. The Devil's Triangle. 9... 21st Century Schizoid Man 8...Lizard 7...In The Court of The Crimson King 6...Epitaph 5/4 ...Prelude: Song of The Gulls. Islands 3...Starless 2...Fracture 1..In The Wake of Poseidon
Here's a list I'm quite happy with (what I have to be happy with...): 01 · One More Red Nightmare 02 · Lament 03 · Easy Money 04 · 21st Century Schizoid Man 05 · Starless 06 · Epitaph 07 · Three Of A Perfect Pair 08 · One Time 09 · Happy With What You Have To Be Happy With 10 · Frame By Frame
One thing that would propably never make a Crimson fan's top ten list, but I really love listening to so much, is "Trio." A great improvisation between Fripp, Wetton, and Cross. Bruford is given credit for "admirable restraint."
1.Starless 2.Epitaph 3.Islands 4.In the Court of the Crimson King 5.Lady of the Dancing Water 6.Cadence and Cascade 7.The Sheltering Sky 8.Lizard 9.Exiles 10.Fracture
1. Starless (the finale is my favorite section of any song ever) 2. Epitaph 3. Islands (sad to not see it here) 4. Red 5. 21st Century Schizoid Man 6. In the Wake of Poseidon (kinda unreal seeing nobody mention it) 7. Lark’s Tongues 2 8. Lark’s Tongues 1 9. In the Court 10. I Talk to the Wind
This would be my top 15 King Crimson songs. Haven't gotten around to much of their stuff from the 80's onward, though, so it's definitely subject to change. 15) Islands 14) The Sheltering Sky 13) The Night Watch 12) The Devil's Triangle 11) One More Red Nightmare 10) Cirkus 9) Easy Money 8) 21st Century Schizoid Man 7) In The Wake Of Posiden 6) The Talking Drum 5) The Court Of The Crimson King 4) Fallen Angel 3) Larks' Tounges In Aspic Pt. 1 2) Epitaph 1) Starless
High flying Chinese trender, said "me no surrender".... I love Ladies of the Road & that band in particular- Mel Collins, Boz, Fripp, Ian Wallace & Pete Sinfield were/are vastly overlooked in any & all talk of King Crimson. A shame they were so short lived...
Hard to say exactly which of these songs are my favorite, but, in no particular order: 1. The Great Deceiver 2. Sartori In Tangier (live version, 1984, on the For Absent Lovers live album, last performance 1981-1984 band) 3. 4 i 1 - the first track off the ProjeKcts 1: Live At the Jazz Cafe album in 1997 4. Starless 5. Epitaph 6. Larks Tongues In Aspic Part 2 7. Red 8. In The Court of The Crimson King 9. Indiscipline (especially live versions) 10. Level Five
For now my top 10 favorites are the following which is consistent with me top 3 favorite albums which are Larks Tongue in Aspics, Red and Islands, though I am also really fond of the title track for Court of the Crimson KIng and Cirkus from Lizard: Starless, Larks Tongue in Aspics I, Fallen Angel, Court of the Crimson King, Sailor's Tale, Exiles, Formentera Lady, Cirkus, Larks Tongue in Aspics 2, One More Red Nightmare
1. Epitaph 2. I Talk To The Wind 3. 21st Century Schizoid Man 4. Cadence and Cascade (Greg Lake) 5. In The Wake Of Poseidon 6. Red 7. Exiles 8. One More Red Nightmare 9. Larks' Tongues In Aspic pt. 2 10. Starless
What is happening here Peter is that the new generation is moving onward. We absolutely appreciate all of the older Crimson. Friggan amazing musicianship. Really. What it happening is a new birth. Belew is actually what Zappa said. A new progressiveness in guitar world. I am just now starting to figure out this guy. He did really invent a new way of playing the guitar. We went through the social media world of playing guitar that is thankfully fading away. Belew and others were paving a new way for musicians alike. Stop playing the standards and do weird things. It is okay. This 80's King Crimson and the 3 albums are just as amazing as the 1970's. We love the 1970's King Crimson but there is something to the new generation and rebirth of the early 1980's. Frame by Frame is quite the piece.
1. Starless 2. Larks Tongues in Aspic 1+2 3. Epitaph 4. Providence 5. Easy Money 6. The Devils Triangle 7. Pictures of a City 8. Red 9. Fracture 10. Indiscipline
My list King Crimson 1. Larks Tongues in aspic part II 2.Lament 3.In the court of Crimson King 4.Red 5. The great deceiver 6. Easy Money 7. Starless 8. Fallen Angel 9. The Night Watch 10.20 Century Schizoid Man
Trio is so beautiful. People don't mention it often at least compared to other songs from Starless and Bible Black like Fracture and The Night Watch (which both kick ass btw)
@@EzioMonty117 Agreed. It actually made my top 3. It's my favorite track from Starless and Bible Black but also the most beautiful track the band ever recorded though surprisingly overlooked. Bruford who didn't play on the track is credited with 'Admirable restraint'. Perfect. It's not a popular position to take but I prefer S&BB to LTIA largely due to the tracks Trio, Fracture and the title track.
My top 10: 1. Larks' Tongues In Aspic, Pt. 2 2. Fracture 3. Red 4. Starless 5. 21st Century Schizoid Man 6. The Sheltering Sky 7. Sailor's Tale 8. The Devil's Triangle 9. Larks' Tongues in Aspic Pt. 1 10. VROOM VROOM
Love your list. Kinda like to see Tala. At this time, I only have 2 King crimson on CD The Court of the Crimson King & Starless and Bible Black. I definitely need to change that.
Keep going great shows My top 10 10. 21 century schizoid Man 9. Easy Money 8. Lady of the Dancing Water 7. Islands 6. Lizard 5. In the Court of the Crimson king 4. Exiles 3. Epitaph is one of the greatest songs of all time, easy.
It’s interesting no one mentioned, the beautiful, “I Talk to the Wind”, especially since it was one of the first songs King Crimson did (as Giles, Giles & Fripp, with Judy Dyble on vocals).

In the Wake of Poseidon is an overlooked album. It still had Greg Lake. I wore out that 8-track.
One of my favs of theirs!
In the wake of poseidon has one of the best melodic drum part
Right, Lake sang some songs on Poseidon. I don't think he played bass on any of it, though.
My number one probably is “in the court of the crimson king “ When I heard it for the first time on the radio... things never been the same! When I was a little girl I listened classical music and the Beatles, In the court ,for me, was a perfect combination of the two...🥰

Nice to see Fallen Angel so high. Surprised he didn't have it in his top ten.
Great top
Starless is the best Crimson song ever
Not being dogmatic or anything!
Epitaph has probably the most meaningful, and still relevant, lyrics of any track by anyone. Pete Sinfield, I salute you.
Greg lake. Best voice ever
Peace - A Theme is an incredibly beautiful guitar song
"Starless" is my favorite by quite a bit, probably my favorite song ever. Crimson has so much good stuff though I can see someone loving Larks and Epitaph the same.

Pretty darn accurate to my top 10 (Cirkus would have to be in there somewhere.) I noticed you didn't include any post 1970s... my man!!

Ian McDonald.

Digging the T-shirt Pete. You know Robert Fripp admired Robin Trower very much as a player, they toured the states together.
On a huge king crimson dive rn. One of my top 3 songs from them, trio, is straight up the most beautiful thing I've ever heard.

Woo! That was a lot tougher than I thought it would be. My first KC album was the 1976 A Young Person's Guide to King Crimson on cassette and I played that thing to DEATH(well, until I put it onto mini disc). That comp had a lot of influence on my decision making.

I heard Greg Lake sing Epitaph live during Tarkus in 1973. What a great moment.
These videos are so awesome...and inspiring.
Top 10 KC songs; can't exactly rank them, but I think I've got 'em; one of them may, or may not, be a cheat...you'll see what I mean 😂.
This is fun.

Your top 6 is probably mine as well. Bruford really slams the drums on Lark's.
My top 3
1 - I Talk to the Wind
2 - Pictures of a City
3- The Devils Triangle
Great list. Starless #1 for me. I found I was anxious about Matte Kudesai being in your list as I never got on with that song. Relief.
Been wanting to do this a week ago but just now getting around to it. It's hard to narrow down my top 10 King Crimson songs because I have a few extra, so I'll make them Honorable mention.
10) Lament

7) Red
6) Night Watch
5) The Court of the Crimson King

One thing that would propably never make a Crimson fan's top ten list, but I really love listening to so much, is "Trio." A great improvisation between Fripp, Wetton, and Cross. Bruford is given credit for "admirable restraint."

The way Bruford used that splash cymbal in One more Red Nightmare.Stellar!
This would be my top 15 King Crimson songs. Haven't gotten around to much of their stuff from the 80's onward, though, so it's definitely subject to change.

Hard to say exactly which of these songs are my favorite, but, in no particular order:
1. The Great Deceiver
2. Sartori In Tangier (live version, 1984, on the For Absent Lovers live album, last performance 1981-1984 band)

9. Indiscipline (especially live versions)
10. Level Five
For now my top 10 favorites are the following which is consistent with me top 3 favorite albums which are Larks Tongue in Aspics, Red and Islands, though I am also really fond of the title track for Court of the Crimson KIng and Cirkus from Lizard: Starless, Larks Tongue in Aspics I, Fallen Angel, Court of the Crimson King, Sailor's Tale, Exiles, Formentera Lady, Cirkus, Larks Tongue in Aspics 2, One More Red Nightmare

some honorable mentions: Thrak, Level 5, Elekctric, sailors tale, many more.
Your choices are all exemplary, however new millennium KC was largely overlooked so I want to put a vote in for 'Eyes Wide Open'. Great track.
I loved how Lake incorporated Epitaph into the Battlefield segment of Tarkus on ELP's 74 live album.
Starless is my number1. Epitaph is great as well.
I like the 80s Odd meter pop songs with Belew the best! All still great
Any thoughts on Faith No More?
Starless & Sailor's Tale. Play them at my funeral!
1. Epitaph
2. I Talk To The Wind
3. 21st Century Schizoid Man
4. Cadence and Cascade (Greg Lake)
5. In The Wake Of Poseidon
6. Red
7. Exiles
8. One More Red Nightmare
9. Larks' Tongues In Aspic pt. 2
1. Starless
2. Larks Tongues in Aspic 1+2
3. Epitaph
4. Providence
5. Easy Money
6. The Devils Triangle
7. Pictures of a City

9. The Night Watch
10.20 Century Schizoid Man
the mincer off of starless and bible black is a great song one of my favriotes by the band
Anybody loves Trio?
Yes, it makes my top 10.
I am listening to it just now ... beautiful!! Mellotron and violin, that combination is strange but sweet
My top 10:
1. Larks' Tongues In Aspic, Pt. 2
2. Fracture
3. Red
4. Starless
5. 21st Century Schizoid Man
