      All good, we’re used to it,,,btw, I love Florida. Had a few short layovers there, on route to catching cruise ships. Also, spent a week in Kissimmee, on three different occasions, as our daughter played college soccer in the USA, and the nationals were held there each year, and her school went three of the four years she played. We would head down there for the week to watch, and thoroughly enjoyed our time in that area. From what I remember, The weather was beautiful, in mid November when we went. Each day something like 70°. Quite a shock when we would get home to snow and below freezing temperatures here. Take care Youthman and enjoy that backyard to it’s fullest.

    Did you consider the effects of combfiltering in your horizontal array? You are cancelling frequencies in this type of setup. Don't believe me, measure with one speaker on each side instead of four on each side. On a positive note you guys did a clean installation.

    • @simonspears7892

      You are correct there is combfiltering, but as you move from two tweeters, to three, to four, the combfiltering effect is spread and is less of an issue.

    to confirm you indeed wired everything correctly, you can use a DMM to test the ohms reading of the LEFT and RIGHT drive lines to ensure that they are as close to the 8ohm spec for that amp.
    way to go on a nice clean install here!

    • @nukeelec
      @nukeelec 3 года назад +1

      Actually that won't work. A DMM measures resistance not impedance. Since a speaker is essentially an inductor, the resistance measured with a meter will be significantly less than the rated impedance, which can be thought of as resistance to an AC waveform. Also, the way the speakers are wired in a series-parallel combination will result in a total impedance that is identical to the rated impedance of one speaker. When wiring identical speakers in series, impedance is additive. When wiring identical speakers in parallel, the impedance will be 1/2.

    • @mfkhometheater7742
      @mfkhometheater7742 3 года назад

      @@nukeelec Correct, actually a typical speaker voice coil is a resistor, capacitor, and inductor all in series. It will be reactive near resonance and become increasingly inductive at higher frequency. With an ohm meter you can only see the DC resistance and you just get a number that will typically be just a little less than the rated impedance. The actual impedance is not a number, it's a graph.

      @Youthman  Год назад

      I shared my thoughts in the videos but did not make a dedicated review per say. We do live in an HOA and have never had any neighbors complain. That was one of the purposes of adding a more speakers, so as to get great coverage throughout the outdoor living area without having to crank it up loud to disturb the neighbors. OSD provides a great bang for your buck. They aren’t designed to be HiFi speakers and their app isn’t as nice as Sonos but then again, they are a fraction of the cost too.

    @donaldwatson4991 Год назад

    Don't under stand how you can series a pair of speakers with passive crossovers in each box without affecting the next set of drivers. For a example if you series two 4 ohm speakers to get a 8ohm combined impedance you can use a single cap. On the first positive lead to cross them both over. I'll have to look more in to this.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Год назад +1

      My understanding is it’s not in series but rather series parallel. This might help www.proacousticsusa.com/media/wysiwyg/installation_help_page/Series_Parallel_Speaker_Wiring.pdf

    • @donaldwatson4991
      @donaldwatson4991 Год назад

      @Youthman I under stand the series parallel with the speaker drivers just did not think you could series parallel speakers after the passive crossovers are put on the speak drivers in the enclosure. Unless the woofer is running full range without a passive crossover then that's about the only way it can be done I think.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  3 года назад +3

      Problem with “Dailey chaining” each speaker is you would change the impedance. This method allowed us to keep the impedance at 8ohms so the amp would run cooler.

  • @markmroz

    That "line array" is sideways, which means you're squeezing the sound horizontally. And because the spacing of the drivers is so far apart, the comb filtering is going to be ridiculous. Looks fun though.

      The speakers are 8ohms. If you were to connect all 4 to one channel, for each speaker you add to that channel, resistance would be cut in half so 8ohms for 1 speaker, 4ohm for 2 speakers, 2ohms for 3 speakers and 1ohm with 4 speakers.
      That would likely burn up the amp.
      So by connecting it in series / parallel, it keeps it at 8ohms.

      Our family loves it. It allows me to keep it at very moderate volume to not disturb the neighbors and still maintain a very full sound throughout our outdoor living area.

      As mentioned in several videos, the purpose of multiple speakers is so that you get even distribution around the entire backyard living area without the need to turn it up really loud. Previously I had to turn my two speakers up pretty loud to cover the entire yard

    Really not a fan of the overkill that's just wasting money (even tho sponsored) no reason for 8 speakers to do lt and rt stereo

      This is definitely not a typical setup. But then again I do have (4) 18's and (3) 15's in my 13' x 19' x 10' theater room too. Some might suggest that is overkill as well. I like to think of it as limitless headroom which equates to very low distortion, even at ridiculous levels.

    That system has to produce some horrible comb filters. There is a lot of ignorance here.

    poor neighbors. instead of doing all this though I'd probably just have put some commercial outdoor speakers in.

      Are they for neighbors? The goal of having multiple speakers so you don’t have to turn it up loud and you still get good coverage around your entire outdoor living area. I have great relationships with my neighbors And will continue to be respectful of them

      @@Youthman i don't doubt that, you and your wife seem like great neighbors. still a line array is going to clobber them when it's being used at any volume. i generally find the best for outdoor speakers is to distribute a bunch evenly spaced so you can keep the volume lower and have even levels as you move around.

      Only time will tell. I’ll just invite them to the party or give them access to connect from their back yard via Bluetooth for their get togethers 🤣

  • @castawaykim

    🤦‍♂️ are you sure that you know what you are doing here? Your set up has nothing to do with line arrays. Google a little bit before calling this a “line array”.

    • @Youthman

      Most of my knowledge is in home theater, not pro audio so no, line arrays are not something in my area of expertise. This speaker layout was designed by OSD and just reminded me of a line array but probably isn’t a correct comparison.
