    That brings back Memories,
I remember being in my Grandfathers house, and there was an old siding that came up to his back yard, and a beet train was sitting in the siding, as the line was so busy, they were letting two empties down from Limerick Junction before the full was let up , on that single line.

yes, shame. there was a lot that was done through the railway system. one time certain suppliers used to use the railway before they cut to supplying through wholesalers. I remember summers in primary school, collecting 'bearts' from the railway yard.

Wish that trains would be used here in Idaho to haul sugar beets and get all of these blasted trucks off the roads.

Time to connect the Irish ports to rail and end trucking subsidies. Irish motorists subsidise trucks to the hilt. I was in France and I was shocked to see an Irish tourist's tax disc showing over 500 euro car tax for a crappy 1.8 litre Peugeot Estate!! Mixed goods trains with 100km haulage with 4 wheel wagons ought to be viable but with gargantuan EU trucking subsidies no chance!
