  • A compilation of various clips taken of Irish Rail's 071 class locomotives giving it their best over the years across Ireland preforming various duties.
    Built from 1976 - 1978 by GM (General Motors) and powered by a EMD 12-645E3C, V12 2-stoke diesel engine, these locomotives are the backbone of Irish Rail's freight and engineering operations and likely will be until at least 2030.

    I was 3 years old when these loveable monsters first roared past my childhood home in 1978. They're still a sight to behold & hear... especially in the distance, on a foggy night.

    You'd hear them all over the place at night worked them out of North Wall up the dip and out of Heuston on the Guinness liner out of the goods yard there and of course out of Cork. I could hear the liner going up at night 8 miles away!

    what is it that makes these so noisy when on full chat, that deathly Drone from them, I don't recall it from when I was younger was there a re-powering of them done at some stage? never heard any of the similar emd engine US locos make that same noise.

    • @pootispiker2866
      @pootispiker2866 11 месяцев назад

      I think that noise comes from an unbalanced turbo wheel. The GM engines tend to do that, GE engines make a different noise that's more guttural.

    Hello mate just wondering takin a trip to Ireland in 2 year is there any sort of realtime trains website like we do here in UK would love to see one of these in action while I'm there

    • @irishrailtrains
      @irishrailtrains  Год назад

      No, unfortunately we don't have the luxury of that. We have to rely on official timetables and word of mouth

    Haha must have been a bit chilly at the start. The old American engines don't like the cold much.
