The same year the statue was unveiled.
Where was this bronze plaque and when was it forged the 53 years between the sonnet and the unveiling.

The color is green because that is the color of oxidized (rusted) copper. Though the oxidation is caused by the weather and atmosphere it's kind of silly and misleading not to say it's color comes from copper rusting.
