A few further tips from my many years of fishing on lower stocked silty lakes would be to first cast out an old rig and check if it comes back clean or whether the hook comes back covered in silk weed/dead leaves. If it comes back clean after half a dozen casts then a bottom bait/wafter will be fine but otherwise a pop-up rig will be needed (I like a ronnie for leaves/chod and a taller hinge rig/chod for silk weed). Next would be ensuring to hit the clip and take the rig down gently to avoid plugging in the mud, if you smash it in then you'll not be doing yourself any favours and you'll feel a noticeable resistance followed by a pop when you come to retrieve it. I also trap the hookbait between two nuggets of foam to ensure it has only got to drop the length of the hooklength onto the silt rather than being dragged in by the lead which ensures the rig is clean and presenting when it settles, the other bonus is that you'e got two targets to aim for when the foam pops up if you're fishing within catapult range. With helicopter rigs I find that it is important to chase the upper bead with the lower stop, I find that more than about 4 inches between them gives the fish too much wiggle room to spit the hook. When free baiting with boilies a big edge if you think you might be waiting more than a few hours for a bite is to pre soak the boilies in either water or water+liquid food for at least 24hrs so they are completely saturated otherwise they can soak up the scent of the silt as they hydrate and become a lot harder for the fish to find.
This kid knows how to fish. The way he handles the rod after a take and the way he treats the fish after the catch is awesome. His going to be a serious fisherman once he is into his teens. We will see him competing in the YCCC 🥇 hats off to his father 🫡
I love this vid I like to see that you are working with your fans and I like to see that you are going fishing without your brother and well done Carl ☺️
Feeling very run down after a weeks fishing. Just what I needed whilst resting up in bed. Glad you’re still posting bits. I have my own fishery if you want to come test it out for a week on me? Few unknowns still in the water. Either way thanks again for the upload dude
You're a very lucky guy Carl, fishing all these lovely places and the lucky people who you go and fish with, the video's as usual are great for people to learn how to make rigs and set ups for fishing, for new fishermen and experienced ones too, fantastic video's Carl, love them, keep it up mate x take care
A flat inline lead sits better on heavy silt Carl and you can slow down the descent by using a pva bag with pva nuggets in to stop the lead digging in . Also sometimes a lighter lead works , only party digging in allowing for bolt rig action . Good luck , nice video .
Just really enjoy watching your fishing vids Carl it's great watching the young ones fish especially having someone like you to learn them different techniques 👍💯🏴
@@fishingtutorials hey mate, what a morning! 2 mirrors around 10kg, bouth with a chod rig and a fishy 15mm pop up! Thanks a lot, the tutorial videos are a big help!
I just want to say ‘thankyou’ to Carl (& Alex) only started coarse fishing in August ‘20. Watching the tutorials (and got the boys books) had my best session ever today. Thanks to the ‘Method Feeding for Carp video’ followed it. Today caught some 6lb Carp. Keep up the good work.
Great fisherman you are my friend, i was no subscribe then but i fish with you since you and your brother where boys and i wanted to fish like you. Now i have a young chanel and last week my dowghters fished and release a almost 9 pound barbel. Keep them coming.
Always a tidbit of knowledge to glean from your vids, tutorials or no. Looking forward to your next trip to the US! You should hook up with Austin Anderson to catch some huge buffalo down here in Texas! He recently put a client on a 60 pounder!
Nice tutorial Carl. Yes the dilemma of do you pull a plugged lead out of the silt or leave it buried. Well I used to pull them out but as I got more experienced I started fishing helicopter rigs set deep and left them plugged which definitely seemed to improve my catch rate..
Hi Carl, excelent fishing tutorial as always. I'd like to ask a simple and quick question: what's the size of the line (diameter and weight) you used? Thanks in advance, and kind regards
I saw that you and carl went to fishing in other countries and I wanted to aks you do you want to come to Croatia to lake Zajarki. The average fish is about 30-40 pounds and the biggest ever caught was about 80 pounds
There's a video out there (tried searching sorry!) showing underwater footage of carp with a spod hitting the water, still feeding, not interesting in the noise. I think they're used to noise a lot more than we think. Geese, swans, ducks etc fighting and landing in water make a hell of a racket.
Nice fishing trip. I aways love to fish with kids that love to fish.watching them have fun makes the day fishing great. Brings back good memories thanks. Also great tips on fishing.
there's been a few delays and I found a leak in the fibreglass in one of the bottom drains so have to get that re-done then can get on the edit finally :)
Hi Carl, my name is Levi and I am a thirteen year old boy who has a big passion for carp fishing.I would love some tips if you could possibly read this
The tieing is the same, you just use a different hook link. For the helicopter rig you use a hook link pretty simular to a "normal" carp rig. Just a bit shorter I guess 🤔 you can see it in the video 👍
Carp fishing is cheating. Load the swim with food. Ain't good. Sea anglers bait up and hope a fish wants the offerings. I cannot get my head around freshwater cheating I'm afraid. Oh dear.
Thankfully opinions about what carp fishing is and isn't are subjective and with any fishing, I very much believe in each to their own, and not up to anyone else to judge. If someone enjoys this type of carp fishing, that's up to them :) In the UK baiting is allowed, so I feel it's fair enough to utilise what ever tactic works for that person to take enjoyment from catching a fish :)
Awesome Video Carl 👍 Loads of useful tips for the beginners and also for the More experienced anglers also, Some lovely Carp Caught 👍🎣 If you could possibly check my channel out that would be awesome thanks

hey guys i got a question.
is it better to have a slack line with the helicopter rig or a tight line ?
Semi-slack tends to be good especially in the margins :)

Half the time that sinker will drop between the crotch of some branch that sunk in that quicksand shit. They call them mud carp for a reason.
