Mould 71: What is inside this Vintage Pottery Mould?

- This is the series where I reveal what is inside these pottery moulds I found on Gumtree.

The story goes, I found a listing on gumtree for pottery stuff. When I arrived the seller said 'I have all these pottery moulds would you like them as well?' and I said 'why not'. On the way home, I had the brain child to do a social media video series revealing what each mould is.
The mystery is in the fact that I had no idea what I had said yes to, some of the moulds are labelled and easy to tell but some of them are a little more difficult. The beauty is that all of the plaster moulds surprise you no matter the presentation of labels, titles or identifiable surface inside.
So come join me as I dive into this series and share the mould fun. I would love to hear any information you may have on the moulds and to let me know any stories you have that the moulds remind you of in the comments.

Before Alicia was born, we had very little money. I decided to make her a mobile out of hangers, my grandmother wrapped in colorful yarn. I took 3 of them and attached them together at the top(curved hanger part) and then where they crossed each other at the flat. It was so pretty! My husband and I had gone to a county fair and had won several little stuffed animals. A zebra, puppy, kitty, cow, and a giraffe. I tied each one to each corner of the hanger. It was more beautiful than anything I could have bought in a store.🎉

these were absolutely ADORABLE piece and the mobile turned out absolutely whimsical and gorgeous. i would love to see some little spotted piggies done in this mold, i'm absolutely OBSESSED with it.

Your youtube channel is honestly such a wind down for me, whenever I feel stressed about exams or whatever I literally just come to watch you make pottery and paint, your voice is so nice to listen to.
They are so cool! I think that the loop needed to be further back, after the wings, for a better flying effect when hanging, but the mobile look very cute regardless.

The mobile is charming. I luv the pastel tassels. Cute! Cute! Cute! I hope you make flying pigs for the Christmas tree. I would suggest putting the hanger further back, maybe centered on the wings, so the piggies don’t look like they’re attacking. So glad to see you! Loving your dress. 🐖🐖🐖
Yes definitely! I popped the hanger up the front so it kind of looked like it was leaping in the air! I love the idea of having them positioned like they were flying! So happy you love the pastels!

I don't know how or why I found this channel but this mistery mould series is very addictive. You have a very nice and lovely voice and way of speaking to the viewer. Love the little laughs here and there. Keep rocking!

I remember making a mobile for my son when he was young. Just cardboard stars and moons with glitter glued on then layers and layers of sealment in an attempt to keep the glitter on the mobile. We were vacuuming up chunks of glitter a lá sealment for years. 😂
You are right to worry about hanging it over a baby. A lot of people just use a simple hook jammed in the ceiling or attach it to the light fixture, a recipe for disaster! Always find a stud in the ceiling and use a attachment point that is A) long enough to reach the stud and B) strong enough to hold 5 time the current weigh of the child.

I would love to see more variation in the piggie colours. I think it would be so cool to have one spotted, one brown, one pink, one banded or one striped! Piggies have so many wonderful colour patterns that most people probably don't know about and it would be so so cute to see them all! If you think pigs are cute you should look up all the wonderful colours and patterns they can have!
Oh absolutely, for this particular piece I was going for a uniform pastel look. It’s not meant to be realistic! Just a pastel colour palette! Spotted pigs would be cute too ehhe

My grandmother had similar pigs hanging from her ceiling fan cords. I think one of them broke when I was younger but they were so cute.

These are so adorable! I love your Mystery Mould series.
I get it now! I took my first pottery class at our community center and the act of being there when the kiln opens is magical. We were all like a bunch of excited kids bouncing around until our creation came out. Sooooo much fun! Cheers to you pro potters! That's hard work!
Some context on the mould: Scioto, the company who made this mould, was probably in Scioto County, Ohio in the US, which is situated on the Ohio River. (Scioto is a First Nations word for Deer or Deer Hunting.). Scioto County is near Cincinnati, OH, whose city mascot is . . . the Flying Pig. The city is covered with Flying Pig statues and art and they even have a marathon called The Flying Pig! I lived there for 7 lovely years and miss it still. This mould was almost certainly made to celebrate Cincinnati.
Flyings piiiiiiggggs! So incredibly cute and wonderful to watch them come to life. I was thinking gold wings and spotted pigs with pink ears and noses? The mobile turned out perfectly cute

I love this!!!! When I was trying to find a mobile for my baby room it was so hard to find a nice one! This is lovely and I would totally hang it in my kids room!
I did end up making my own by painting geometric blocks in pastel colours and dismantling a few coat hangers.
Yess I must admit I haven’t seen many mobiles out there! I have seen some very cute ones with felt animals which I adore! This one would be far too heavy and not the right material for hanging but it was more for the concept than anything!
