- We recently got the chance to sit down with a few of the voice actors from the latest edition to the FINAL FANTASY franchise, FINAL FANTASY XVI.
In this interview, Ralph Ineson speaks about what it's like to voice the latest Cid.

This guy's voice is very unique. He was made for voice acting.
I love that his voice is perfect for the midieval era type characters
his voice would fit in for most of the character in God of War
When I first saw him in The VVitch, I knew his voice was gonna be a big deal
He’s Great as Charles Vane in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
Though I feel like he can only do his own voice.
Some of the best voice acting in FF history AND, perhaps, the best "Cid," certainly one of the top Cid portrayals across the franchise.

No joke, every time Cid was on screen I was glued to it. Great writing great performance.

@@helvete_ingres4717 I mean, not really. The Ralph and Cid are not too disimilar from each other in age, and hes sounded like this for a long long while.
I think the voice is very fitting as a wise voice of reason and is why Ramuh works so well with him aswell.
@@MFMArtNo, Cid in FF16 is definitely supposed to be early 50s (which is Ralph's age) - it's just that every male character in the game is made to look like a clone of David Beckham (who is almost 50).

It's surreal. A lot of voice actors actually make a different voice or exaggerate their own. This dude, this is his normal voice. It's awesome.
Well I think he worded it perfectly when he said his voice already perfectly suited Cid, and I’d agree! He does just naturally sound like what I’d imagine the character to sound like.
@@GrippeeTV It's pretty awesome. The only other two voice actors I can think of that are like this would be Gideon Emery and Tomokazu Sugita. The latter is even more like Ralph in this case, he literally sounds just like Gintoki.

The best Cid and one of the best characters in FF series. Can't believe how amazing the voice acting is. And he talks about Cid's love to Clive just touched me deeply. I really need a Cidolfus in my life for sure.
Watching this to see why he was chosen to cast as Galactus in the upcoming Fantastic Four film and I can see why. He has that perfect villainous voice for the character.
He has a voice that is timeless. One I will remember with the likes of James Earl Jones and others.
Ralph, you deserve many awards for your role as Cid. Your performance was genuinely incredible.
He's very down to earth and easy to listen to. The perfect casting for Cid.

@@TheFlyingBookwormmy favorite was when they were picking up the gate and were like "3...2...1" and aren't in sync. Clive says "what happened to 1?!" Cid then says "ask 2!"
My favourite line was his response to how Clive was going to kill the second Dominant of Fire and rip the tongue out of any man who would stop him:
"Alright... forest's dark enough as it is... "

He killed this role. Great voice and great talent to put it to use. FFXVI Cid made memorable.
Love Ralph Ineson and it's so cool that we got to hear him as main characters in two of the biggest games of the year releasing in the same month. Hopefully the praise of his performances and the games he's been in will push him to keep acting in games.
It's definitely gonna be hard choosing between him and Ben Starr at the Game Awards (if Ralph is even nominated, that is)

I never been a CID character's fan until now and I played almost every single Final Fantasy game but man do I love the voice of this man. They did an amazing job on Square Enix first for giving Cid's character such an amazing role in the story and finding this unique and amazing voice.
Never played 7 , 8 or 14? I agree though , this Cid is pretty good.

Cidolfus Telamon is IMO the best iteration of Cid of the entire franchise. Ralph Ineson brought so much likeable charisma to the character. Love how it's literally just how he sounds normally.
Really want to hear him in an audiobook and will always picture Cid as the narrator from now on
my favorite mainline Cid, amazing actor, amazing voice actor, and an amazing character.
They could not have found a cooler voice for Cid. Great casting and writing all-around 👏
Fun fact, Mid (voiced by Katie Clarkson-Hill), also speaks in a very thick Yorkshire accent.
If there's any setup for DLC, it'll be the small hint of Cid and Mid' origin, where it looks like the dialects established their Thunder village....

The instant I heard his voice in Final Fantasy 16 I recognized him from “The Witch” which is a fantastic movie imo. His voice commands a room

This man pops up everywhere in roles I least expect him in, and he kills it every time.
He's the kinda guy you want to go for a pint with after work, love seeing Yorkshire representation in Video Games 👌🏻
My gosh this man’s voice is so lovely to hear, and he represented Cid’s character so well! Absolutely wonderful

This is what happens when you have an exceptional actor that is utilized for an exceptional character in an exceptional video game. I know the game mains as Clive but to me Cid will be one of my favorite characters ever and half of the charm is because of the Ralph and his tremendous voice acting.
Imagine having this voice...damn. Dude's blessed
Credit where credit's due because the script was amazing, but the way he brought it to life made the scenes at least half as memorable as they were. Cid was the absolute best character in the story and it is in no small part down to the brilliant voice acting. Probably to the point where we were given a character that strays quite far away from Cid's usual depiction, probably even more than VII's version, yet he was still easily accepted as the best Cid we've ever had.

It's strange playing Diablo 4 and FF16 back to back and you keep hearing his voice!
The perfect man for the role! Thank you Ralph for giving Cid the emotion and character which makes him even more real. It gives FF16 more feels and even greater experience!

I love his voice, I could listen to this man read books on audible all day.(spoier)
So sad he was only featured in 1/4 of the story.

I looked up Ralph Ineson after seeing "The Creator". His voice is so deep and distinctive. I thought his voice would sound great as a Autobot or Decepticon.
People are being so mean to this game but it really is one of a kind, FANTAStic.
Only the people that can't play it.
The problem is that when this game is fantastic it is REALLY fantastic, but when it's not... it's really not... There's a huge dissonant between the best part of the game and the worse part of it which make it all the more frustrating.
@@None38389 Agreed, but there's a lot of games like that, people just give those a pass because theyre not as theme parky. Witcher 3 wastes several hours of time and its called GoTY.
This guy voiced Charles Vane in AC4 !! Voice was badass and menancing.
When Cid first appeared in FFXVI my partner was like “this guy sounds like Finchy in The Office”. So cool to have a voice that is recognisable in your work spanning decades.
I’d love a Cid prequel or him returning some form in FF16’s universe, love to see more of his dynamic between him and his daughter, Gav and Otto

Ever since GoT this guy’s voice strikes such a unique chord I love it.
Cid and Clive were a stellar duo and it would not have been as good without Ralph Ineson and Ben Starr working together and making it work

Wow, just imagine walking around with such a bad azz voice like this every day!? I would never get tired of hearing it! 😍😍😍 Deciding on keeping his accent the same for this Cid was a perfect idea! It fit the setting of the game as well. This is how you find the best actor's for a job!

I loved him ever since I saw The Witch back in 2016. But hearing his voice in this game is just gonna make me think differently whenever I rewatch that film again.

This man did such a good job with cid, my favorite cid and the best cid by far. And they wrote him magnificently. Great look, great voice, great writing, everything about him just works.

The cast of FF16 was phenomenal, but Cid was by far my favorite. Thank you for your fantastic work, You really brought him to life. Everyone needs a man like Cid around in some capacity, someone to push and guide them to do the right thing, even if it's difficult. I hope to hear more projects from you soon, especially in the Final Fantasy realm.
He is such a amazing actor. And blessed with unique and great voice. I hope we will hear his voice in other games too. Cause in Diablo 4 and FFXVI he gived so much to the game with his voice acting.
I recognized his voice back in AC Black Flag as Charles Vane! He was phenomenal in that character.

He was great in The Witch, and he is great in this. Big year for Ralph being the voice of Cid in FF16 and voicing Lorath in Diablo 4. Very excited for him!
I know it takes years to develop a game like this but I thought the voice lines were all done in a handful of weeks. Pretty incredible that the actors come back over the course of 4 years as the game develops and evolves.
From my understanding that was the case for this game because of covid, which restricted alot of their process. Not to mention as a japanese game, they had to record and send stuff back and forth to the developers over in Japan to use.
Definitely my favorite Cid as a long time fan.

This was absolutely in my top 3 favorite final fantasy games. I know people had their problems with it but for me it hit all the right notes. But the acting is what sold me and this gentleman was at the top of that pillar.
