  • This week I am ~overwhelmed~ with all the action! But don't worry, it's still just a calm lil chat while I trim threads off of scarves. Thanks for watching!
I make and sell handmade linen clothing dyed with pigments from plants! I also now offer sewing patterns of my designs and my plant-dyed linen fabric. Check it all out here!

Life is so much better when you feel well and happy. It's not giving up when you look at a plan and decide you've grown out of it and move on to a new plan! Best of luck in Philly.

We share similar interests. I have a BS in Zoology with a focus on animal behavior (was a zookeeper for a few years too) and MS in fisheries and wildlife and worked for many years as a wildlife biologist with a focus on endangered species for the federal govt -- lots of human/animal dynamics when endangered species are involved. And I love love love linen.

It is so good to hear from someone in a similar thought-world! Your career path sounds very similar to one I might have (and might still at some point) take!

I so enjoyed listening to you today, and am glad to hear that your pocket pattern will be coming out sometime in the new year. Thanks!

Oh wooow, the tapestry banners! 😍 The cat toys are also so cute and I love that you and your family made them together and that y'all will come together for the market. A whole family dressed in Charlie Darwin Textiles, what a dream! To anyone else reading this who doesn't already have The Pocket, I have two and love, love, love them! Absolutely indispensable to my wardrobe, especially for pesky (non-Charlie Darwin) dresses without pockets. Very exciting that the pocket pattern will be released soon. Best of luck with the market this weekend! I'm looking forward to more photos and video of the event. ☺

I enjoyed your ramblings as though we were having coffee together. Feeling very connected…loving your growth as you meander thru your life. Finding your way and love the direction you are taking. I’ve been a linen fanatic for a number of years and love love your creations. I sell a few dish towels and some slow stitching bags but love wearing linen everyday. Now I’m rambling! Anyway I’m a fan, friend in spirit and will look at everything you put out. Have a great holiday break.

Good for you for figuring out what brings you joy. That is so important! I think that in itself is a subject that we teach our kids from the start.

Thank you so much for the kind words and support! I totally agree, and I think what's interesting is that sometimes I really expect something (like this phd program) is going to bring me joy, but the key is recognizing that it wasn't actually doing that and making changes without letting shame get in the way (too much lol). Thanks again!

Good for you, Leah! I left a PhD program in sociology at UCLA 40 years ago to pursue my art. No regrets! It hasn't been an easy path, but I've learned so much about myself, business, art, the world -- you name it. Everything. And it has been deeply fulfilling. My experience with the PhD program was similar to yours. Shockingly difficult. My bachelor's and master's degrees were no problem, and I was able to work while going to school. The PhD was brutal, and I couldn't keep up with the reading. It was many hundreds of pages to read each week. The advanced statistics classes were killer. It was as if the program was designed to weed people out. Not fun! I love what you're doing with Charlie Darwin. Good luck with the holiday market!

Thank you SO much for this comment! It has been such a hard and weird decision, and I really appreciate hearing your similar experience (especially the part about no regrets 😊). I really love where I'm going with Charlie Darwin, and am happy to have you along for the ride with me!

I am a Shirt to Dirt participant, proud owner of one of your clothing items, and work in Philadelphia! I live right outside of Philly as well. Good luck with your thesis, move, and if you need any Philly intel, I’d be happy to be a resource!

I truly enjoyed this video. So very interesting. Listened as I was catching up on some sewing. Looking forward to more of these type videos as your time permits. Also absolutely love the sachets & cat toys. I would love to be able to purchase a cat toy or two if you do have any left after the market. Good luck with that this weekend. Have a wonderful day. ✌️❤

I'm glad you enjoyed it, and got some good sewing done, too! And you must have good taste, because the cat toys and satchets were the first to sell out in my booth :) I'm sorry I couldn't have any leftover! Thanks so much for the kind words and support, I really appreciate it all!

So you do know you have ADHD right? Which is a great thing to have if you can harness your strengths! I have it too, and am both an artist and have my own foot care business. I feel ya! I also had a non-profit organization and had a RUclips channel at the height if my "career" and finally gave up both those so I could truly enjoy my life as a human mammal. Good for you, And go get Audible book of Rick Rubin's THE CREATIVE ACT, And listen in your "spare time"... Get good sleep and breathe,,,, Do Wim Hof Method too. That is my advice from a 70 year old who finally realized that "just cause it is a good idea..doesn't mean you have to do it". We want to do everything, us curious ones. And I did sew a rope bowl while listening to your entire ramble!

Thank you for the recommendations! and glad to hear a rope bowl came out of it (I love those!!). I'm going to check out The Creative Act and the Wim Hof Method. I just googled that second one, and see that it's about breathing-- I've been really into the science of breath lately and its impact on the lived experience, so I'm glad for the reccomendation! Haha I'm not sure about the ADHD part, but honestly it feels like most people around my age are kind of living with some version or variation of it with the way the internet works on our brains 🫠

They are! So fun to make. I made stencils on my cricut and sponge stamped on the designs with fabric paint. They look a little haphazard here because they were just hanging to dry, but turned out really polished when I hung them from driftwood!
