You could buy dried beans and pulses such as lentils. Kept cool and dry they can last for many years. Also the beans can be used to grow beans.
I do have a large selection of dried beans, I did a bulk buy last year. Not something I buy on a monthly basis at the moment 😊
Tomato powder, such a good idea!
I switched to uht milk completely. Long storage, same taste, way cheaper.
I make my own powdered tomato. I buy the reduced ones (when I can find them as even they are getting scarce), dehydrate them and then powder them in the blender.
Buying in bulk might work out to be a cheaper option, but as there is only me, the drier works fine
Hi Ana, My husband and I love to grow our own tomato's. When we preserve our's and we peel them for the recipe we put the peels in a freezer bag and freeze them. When our garden is done for the season and the tomato's are gone we take the peels out of the freezer and we Dehydrate them in our food dehydrator, when they are crunchy they are done and we put them in a food processor to make them into a powder. Then we put them in a canning jar and keep them in the cupboard to make our own paste or sauce out of. You can vacuum seal them too. They are very good and easy to do.
Hi. I grow tomatoes too but I can grow enough to make my own powder, just not enough space 😕

Your choices are very similar to mine. I tend to buy rice in sacks rather than small bags and choose basmati rather than long grain as it's a bit better. Prepper items tend to be not the healthiest options, and not what I would eat on a regular basis - so rotation is an issue for me.
I know what you mean, I rarely consume tinned meats like spam BUT as it will sit if shelves for years past the best before date I keep it as insurance
I currently up tomatoes, some I leave unseasoned, others I season all different ways with combination of spices, pepper garlic parsley Italian spice lemon.pepper smoked paprika etc. The dehydrate and blend into powder and seal it I the bags. You do have to a little heavier on some spices..but it's very good and works well!
I would love to but this year I just don’t have enough toms to make powder
Some great ideas as always, Ana. I'd completely forgotten about tinned ratatouille. I used to buy it from the Co-op but unfortunately ours closed down a couple a years ago. Very useful and adds extra taste and variety to a meal. I also buy loads of tinned tomatoes and make my own pasta sauce with it as well as adding some to home made veg soups. I still keep forgetting to buy powdered milk so it's a good thing to have the reminder, lol. Cheers. :)
Best buy rice in bulk from a Chinese or Asian supermarket. Even the mainstream supermarket are selling 10kg to 20 kg bags of rice. Kept dry it should be good for a good number of years. I guess it’s not easy showing and telling a 20kg bag.
You will never beat 52p per kilo even buying bulk bags though

Its important to remember the old phrase, you are what you eat. Although these items are a good idea to get in, it is worth remembering that the quality of food is really important and these basic brands are likely to contain some serious chemical loads. The oats may well be laden with Glyphosates and the current science that is independent and not bought by the food companies warns that a lot of the so called gluten intolerance issues are not gluten but Glyphosate issues. I know its not easy to afford Organic but if you can its way better than bargain brands. The war is all spectrum and although it seems like the clowns running the show dont know what they are doing, every single move is pre planned and made in awareness, they know people are prepping to try and avoid their attempts to destroy the food system, so they know that people will be buying the cheaper foods to add to their stock. These foods will be prime target to fill with chemicals that will affect your health. Teaching your body to exist on less food is sensible and the food it does exist on should be foraged or as close to raw natural as possible. Not having a go, just trying to highlight issues which some people may not consider, it is very important to maintain a healthy body to be able to fight back or stay ahead of the curve once things get really sticky. Stay strong, stay healthy in body and mind. Its also worth watching some of the videos available on here where people are testing bottled water, its blimmin filthy, full of all sorts of harmful chemicals, flouride, chlorine, and plenty of other guilty parties. Its also high in heavy metals and bacteria. Lots of places still have natural springs where you can collect water from, they were well use din the not to distant past and places still have them. Even if one is a short journey away its better to put the miles in than have poisonous water in your stock, which will make you unwell in due course. Love your passion @Ana'sFood&lifestyle and you are doing an amazing job at educating people to be ready for what is coming. Please dont take this as a bad critique of your prepping, just adding some food for thought. All the best and god speed to all.

I do see what you're saying, and we thought that too. However having lived on foodbank food for a year, a lot of my "health and ethics" standards were utterly humbled. Similarly, in an emergency, it's good to have nutrient dense and easy to eat and prepare food on hand. This way, you can conserve energy and gain energy more easily.

If all I have is canned carrots, I have strained them, put them in a blender with apple juice/cider, some pickled ginger or ginger powder, ice and made a smoothie. It's very nice if you don't like canned carrots. Ginger carrot soup is also nice that way made with chix stock, ginger (dry, pickled or fresh) and canned carrots all pureed served hot.

Tropical sun instant mashed potato has been recommended, plus they had big tubs of Nido powdered milk in costco the other day
Sadly when you have allergies, a lot of these items are useless, like mashed potatoes, cream pasta sauces, etc. I’m dairy allergic, hubby can’t eat cheese, and I shouldn’t eat wheat. He can’t eat coconut milk due to fat content (gallstones) so it tends to be all tomato based products for us! Rice, quinoa, are my go to grains, and almond flour I use a lot of too.

You can make quite a good tomato soup which doesn't taste 'soupy' if you blitz 1 tin of carrots 1 tin of baked beans and 1 tin of tomatoes together, then season to taste.

Brilliant! I had a family problem,but I should be back around.
I don't have as many options of tinned meats, let alone ratatouille, here, but I did pick up some more giardiniera to add to the stocks today.

All you need is meat. Carbs and sugar make you hungry. Canned meat.😊

Well unfortunately you can’t prepare for long term with fresh foods . Processed food better than no food in SHTF scenario
You will need it when not much is available. Our food chain in the uk is in crisis.
I'm making prepper soups for the next couple of weeks to use my freezer/refrigerator contents and try to drop a few pounds. My clothes are more comfortable and it hasn't been a week yet. I'm making and eating soups for lunch and dinner and having a protein shake for breakfast. Processed food does put on weight and so does working out. Muscle weighs more than fat, but fat bulges more out of my pants...
Prepper soups for this week included: Chili with stew meat and sour cream, cabbage lentil potato turkey sausage (and some saved without the sausage) soup with caraway, Ramen Satay soup (tonight's meal), Borscht with sour cream, Pumpkin soup with toasted almonds on top (by mixing cans) and the week's not done yet.
