I think that people tend to forget that Lamborgini is actually a tractor company. It may be surprising to learn that supercar company decided to make this but once you remember they make giant heavy tractors it becomes actually sensible.
Edit: I googled that now I know that they sold Lamborghini Trattori in 1970, 7 years before this. Now it makes sense why they failed... But why would they sell it?

Thanks for a cool video with great footage that you sourced and presented to us! I love it! I remember always reading about these as a kid, and knowing that they were for the super rich! I bought a brand new 911 Porsche in 1986, for a bit over $35,000.00 U.S. which was a lot of money for me then, and this Lamborghini was three or four times as much! A rare Cheetah for sure! I've never even laid my eyes on one in person, yet on certain Tuesday afternoons, used to be able to see nearly every contemporary Ferrari in person, all at the same place, yet never saw a Cheetah. Thanks again!

There was likely a bit of a feeling originally amongst the Lamborghini designers that they would be able to draw on their tractor building heritage to produce a capable vehicle, but unfortunately the available technology during the stages of development of the various prototypes meant it was always going to be difficult to obtain military-contracts with the US Govt!

It is a shame that cars built for utility purposes (SUVs) and cars built for the joy of driving (sports cars) and cars built for top of the line performance (supercars/hypercars) are all ultimately used as status symbols and a show of wealth instead of being used as intended by the manufacturer (ok, luxury SUVs are intended to be used as status symbols but still).

I have played with ideas of a military vehicle , think a flat engine under the passenger area is a good idea. With the engine partly being a structural member. A flat boxer like engine , in 6, 8, or 12 cylinders. A diesel would be cool. Using a supercharger, (a 2 stroke Detroit Diesel like engine even better) a H-12-92 maybe, just shy of 1200 CID )), but 6cylinders with modest boost 8-10 psi. With a 6speed gear box, with the front prop shaft running through the engine oil pan. Made from . 250" steel with
.375" skid plate , for it and the transmission, transfer case. And possibly a reverse in the transfer case, to allow high speed reverse, with 6 reverse gears. With basically 2ton axels hummer like suspension. And ability to carry extra armor. A front storage area, traditional engine bay, with the cooling behind the bumper and down low. With gas or diesel , and a 4500-5500 peak RPM. A roughly 4.625" stroke and 4" - 4.250" bore, the engine should make tq.
