  • A couple of months ago we got carpet from lowes. This is our story of dealing with Lowe's and the contractor. It is also a look at the installation after a few months.
    The experience was what you'd expect from a big box retailer and bottom bidding contractor. But the carpet is actually really nice all for a GREAT price.

    We put Lowes carpets in in 2018. We went middle of the road on quality, higher but not top on padding. We replaced the whole top floor (3 bedrooms, upper landing, hallway and staircase. It is just the two of us, no kids, but we use the upstairs every day, multiple trips up and down. Now, almost 5 full years later, it is still in great shape. Redoing the rental house this next week…also using Lowes.

    I totally understand why you did this and it does make sense! We had wood laminate in both kids rooms that flooded and have to be replaced. We’re going with carpet now bc OMG THE KIDS ARE LOUD!! lol We’re hoping to dampen some the noise.

    • @eternalharvestfarm
      @eternalharvestfarm  3 года назад +1

      yeah. If it's just noise you are worried about and don't want carpet, LVP with Smartcore Soft and Sound padding really does a good job killing stomping noise. We ended up doing that everywhere else upstairs because plans changed when we realized how bad the existing floors really were. And I've been very surprised and impressed with the LVP. Put it in the new babies room too because well 1 girl in that room vs 2 boys in the carpet room haha. But the carpet really is nice if they little wrestlers like mine.

    It was eight years ago so I don't remember the details, but I also had problems with Lowes and my local installer (Chicago suburbs) scheduling the install. At some point, Lowes said the carpet was still unavailable and wouldn't show up for 6 - 12 weeks and I planned my move around that. A few days later, the installer called and said they had the carpet and wanted to install ASAP. It cost me more on the install because I had moved furniture in since I didn't want to live 6 - 12 weeks without furniture; so the carpet installers had to move furniture in each room instead of installing in the house that had been empty just a few days earlier.

    Did you notice a smell coming from the carpet? I bought a Stainmaster carpet a month ago and its had such a strong smell. I haven't been able to sleep in my bedroom the entire month and I'm seriously thinking to remove it. It's been such a distressing experience and I see a lot of articles online about carpet off-gassing, but they all say that it should stop smelling within a week, but its been over a month on my end now...

    • @eternalharvestfarm
      @eternalharvestfarm  3 года назад +10

      No, we didn't experience that, thank God. It just had the normal 'new carpet' mild smell that I find pleasing, similar to that new car smell, and dissipates after a couple days. If I had any unbearable smell, I'd be beating down the door to get new carpet installed. I can't imagine feeling like I couldn't sleep in my own room from a botched install/bad product. I'll pray God gives you the wisdom, courage and brings you good people to help remedy your issue.

It was expensive but worth it. Absolutely horrible experience with the Stainmaster.

    Not everyone does that, We always show up. Problem right now is getting the carpet delivered in a good time. Even where we subcontract right now it's been crazy because of the students going back to school and putting in dorm carpet and they're building all these new places down by the strip district. But now I'm trying to get carpet for friends. It's been hard to get what they want especially through a subcontracting place that is really a paint place but they sell carpet too. The only other problem we really have is the I don't I'm not purchase or anything but there's a lot of foreigners from other countries and they're pretty cool and don't bother us. They do most of the vinyl and the luxury vinyl and I don't mind that. Because I would rather do the 55 plus and hospices and we are always on time and sometimes we're too early but that's my husband. He's a go-getter. He just wants to get it done and he's very good at what he does. It's been 35 years now he won't retire until he's 90 LOL but anyway good luck with Lowe's whoever goes there but if you ever get the carpet you can always just buy the carpet and for a good price because if you're going to be paying $50 a square yard if you go with Lowe's and home Depot and with somebody like Empire today and sometimes too, they put that price there that doesn't mean that's what you're getting they're going to add all this s*** in and it's going to end up coming to like $5,000 for 100 square yards. it's ridiculous but anyway I'm just saying what I'm saying cuz I'm a carpet installer and my husband and my son and we're ready to retirement maybe, but my son's going to take over. But I do like to get the carpet at Lowe's or home Depot if it's in stock and somebody needs a room done right away. It's good for that and even if you don't know an installer, just laying in the room just lay the carpet in you know especially like a lower plush like in my room right here. It's a 15 ft x 25. I have a lower plush. When we bought this place it was already put in without any strip and no padding. it's not bubbling or anything, it's just getting dirty cuz I have to put a new one in. I'm going to put the new one in right next time. If you just to save money do that.I mean put your own floor in. luxury vinyl is easy to put in. I don't know why they don't just get their guys just to put it in anyway, meaning the maintainance guys. If you're not that busy all the time and you have time, take time to put it in yourself. why wait for somebody else that's not going to show up and then when they do show up ,it's terrible job? All right, good luck I know this is probably an old video but it's still the same way even though covid and everything things are just a little more expensive a little more time consuming you have to be patient. Actually I do carpet but I love hardwood real hardwood LOL take care now thanks for your video you're awesome!

      I work in the industry... $6 per yard on wood subfloor $7 per yard on concrete for plush. Add a $1 per yard for berber. Add another $1 for pattern carpet. Stairs are $15 per stair as well as the $7 per yard. Hollywood stairs are $17 per stair. Upholstered/pie stairs are $20-$25 per stair... I hope this helps...

  • @Bunni2023
    @Bunni2023 2 года назад +1

    Oh and by the way you shouldn't leave globs of paint on the floor anyway. there should be pad underneath and if something goes through. It's not good. They do have a carpet at Lowe's now it's called lifeguard and stuff isn't supposed to come through carpet. It looks nice but it's going to need restretching probably in a year or two, the way it looks doesn't look like they did very good job power stretching but I'm not sure if they're doing it fast. It was only one or two I don't know it's hard to say like the way homes are set up is we have to put seams in and they don't make houses for carpet which is hard because then you we have to put that extra foot or two seam in and that's really tough if the installer's are impatient and they can't wait for it to cool and that Seam comes apart. You might see little shading but anyway I'm talking on a voice thing so if it this messed up I'm sorry but I just want to let you know they do sell carpet it's only like 20 cents more a square foot for the carpet that things can't soak through and the padding too and even Georgia you can get it right from Georgia this Georgia direct. go to them they'll deliver right to warehouse called express global. I see their trucks everywhere they're red white and blue. my good friend worked there that's where we always got our carpet but anyway have fun and I'm glad I hope your carpet works out let me know if it needs restretch. give us an update dude thank you

    We just bought our carpet from Lowes and their contractor over measured/bid our project by almost 200 square feet. The installer showed up with multiple addresses worth of material in the van so we could not tell how much waste/leftover material remained. Called the store to get partial refund on over estimated square feet and basically was told to piss off. Will never use them again.

When we were doing so much else it only makes sense to hire out the job that typically has about the cheapest labor cost anyway, especially if you are already being charged for install in the price of carpet.

    We just had them do our Smart Core Ultra laminate and it was very shoddy installation I could have done better and now they're doing our carpet come this Friday and I'm a little nervous to say the least.
    We didn't pick an extremely high-end carpet but yes it is replacing carpet that's been here for 22 years so although we should have spent another thousand or two probably with another company for install I guess we didn't know any better so here we go with our second install from Lowe's.
    To install carpet they have to be licensed and certified according to the company "Shaw Industries"

    Seems like it was more of a customer service issue. I know that in the stores I've worked at, if you're my install, I ring up installers and vendors plus touch base with you and to top off possibly offer a percentage refund for inconvenience. And that's not being a manager. Stainmaster has a customer service number that can help you out with recommended products for removing stains. Their warranty claims to help you, send some one, or replace it as long as it was professionally installed, which you did. Read up your contract for your model and the warranty just in case it does cover paint. You never know. It sucks to see this terrible experience. I know it's been a year but their warranty is typically 10. If you see my coment let me know how it turned out. Maybe I can look up some extra stuff for you.
    Edit: stains is 7yrs abrasive wear 10yr texture retention. Still worth a read on it (preferably before you call) 😉
