thanks fr the air tip. got our Princess 32 this year and are now burning 1/2 the wood we were before...and the house is hotter. if anyone cares to know, it's f'n worth it man!
No problem, I do like mine but the only thing is that the converters I only can get 2 seasons out of them and they fall apart. I just think up here in northern Minnesota when it’s -35 below temperature (not wind chill) and I the stove maxed out it’s really hard on them.
We are looking to put a wood stove in our basement to try and knock some of chill off the first floor. My brother has a Buck but is Blaze King the best? Who else is worth looking in to? Thanks
@@go2know221 I have a BK King. Myself and two friends in CT bought ours all at the same time back in 2009 ($1925 each, don't know what they cost now, but I'm sure they're worth every penny). Anyway, we all remove and clean the cat at least once a year. All of us use the stoves all winter long, and we are all still using the original cat! I do have a spare cat which I bought with the stove, but haven't installed it. Awesome stoves! I think you're blowing the important part of the cat off with the high pressure. If you're hell bent on doing this, use much lower pressure...
BK specifically says not to use compressed air. As mentioned by another commenter, it will blow the coating off of a steel cat if you have a steel cat. They actually say to use a pipe cleaner, which will never happen in my house! It CAN be done, though you really don't need to use that much pressure/velocity to remove the fly ash. You might try placing the hose of your vacuum cleaner on the exhaust side.
Dunno if you will see this comment but I have to say THANK YOU!! My blaze king Sirocco stopped working properly. After cleaning the flue pipe. The fire would still would go out when I closed the bypass door. After inspecting the “Cat” I noticed it was clogged. Used the air compressor with low pressure. Cleaned it right out and now it’s working properly.
I have a blaze king scirocco 20. They said it would do long burn times, such as 8 to 10 hours. Mine seems to fall out of the "active" zone after a maximum of 5 hours of burn time even if I dial back the air intake knob to a touch past the 3 o'clock position. The 4 o'clock position gives me less burn time yet (4 hours). I blew out the catalyst like you did but with a compressed air can, use dry seasoned wood, load the box as best as I can and still I max out at 5 hours of burn time before the thermometer shows it has fallen out of the "active" heat zone. Any suggestions would be appreciated as to what I should do to be able to achieve 6 to 7 hour burn times.
@@CharlesGahl I always got at least 7 to 8 hours of burn time out of mine here in Minnesota. What I’m wondering at this point is what kind of wood are you burning? When it gets really cold here I always burn a hard wood either oak or iron wood.
Quick question if your still watching comments - Did you install a heat shield for your blaze king? Just curious if you have a video for that. Thanks for all you do.
looking at getting a wood stove, it seems the newer stoves you can't get the burn rate very low. will this stove allow you to turn the fire down and get a long burn time? I grew up with the old blaze king that you could turn way down, but EPA emissions were a none issue back then. I have been heating my home with a dover 400 oil stove, love it nice even heat but now that heating oils $5 a gallon, it's not very economical, looking at wood stove. Finding lot's of mixed review. Fires burn too hot and quick, poor customer service. From various brands. my area sells mainly blaze king, vermont casting, Quadra fire.
I had the original metal, small hole catalyst on my King model, and it plugged completely off. Nothing would get through it. I got it red hot and used compressed air to clean it, which it did with flying colors. But, apparently there's a coating on them that also blew away when I used the compressed air on it, and it didn't work at all after that. I got new style ceramic catalyst and not sure if they have the same precious metal coating as the other ones do. Great video. Thanks.
Leave it! You should never clean these stoves spotless once used. Always leave a little ash in them to protect the fire bricks... the ash is an insulator, and they burn better with an 1" or so left in them.
It all really depends on how big you house is. I bought the princess because it’s rated for 2500 square feet and my house is 1680 square feet. I’m in northern MN and that’s about perfect for me. Just want to make sure that the square feet of the wood stove exceeds your house by a lot so you know that you are good. If your house gets too hot just do what I do and open a window but is very nice to have when it’s -35 outside.
Yeah, and the damn gasket around the catalyst, you call it a converter, is $25. Blaze King video says not to touch it with anything and not to blow air through it. I think they like selling gaskets. Gotta be an cheap alternative out there.
I have had a blaze king princess for 5 yrs now. Had some warranty issues with welding breaking, blaze king are not friendly to deal with when issues arise. The stove will last for long periods of time on low, but remember that low means low heat. Expect to clean your chimney once a month. Given the price tag of this stove, warranty issues, maintnance, i would not recommend this stove. I have burned wood for 35 plus yrs .
Don’t do it on you first then. It’s going to break down and you are going to need a new one in 2 years. Warranty only covers the first converter anyways. Already been down that road

Fantastic! I need to know this trick. Getting a Blaze King soon.

Can you make a video about fighting a loose door hatch
You can also access the back side of the cat and clean it by taking the stove pipe off.

If you want a shield, sheet aluminum will reflect 98% of all radiant heat.

Sorry but I primarily make outdoorsman kind of videos.
I’ve heard that this removes the coating of the palladium. We’re you able to determine if it removed the coating or not?
I couldn’t tell
How far from your wall is your blaze king? Is that the princess?
Not sure I sold that place. Yes it is the princess
I here those are the best wood burning stoves ?
They r good, not sure about the best though?
How do youclean the ash from the side plates using air makes quite a dusty mess
Just did the other day and yes it does lol
Run your vacuum at the same time and suck as much of the dust as you can

You need to be careful because the catalytic combustors are delicate.
