It's the Phil Mickelson vs Tiger Woods parallel. Phil is 8th all time in wins and has 30 more wins than anyone else in the modern era...he just happen to play at the same time as TIger who has double the wins he has.

I've watched her race so many times and I still feel emotional Her humility and how she stays off of social media should be a lesson for everyone to learn from. @Vincenzo / Eliud has put us on the brink. But as you say, age is not on his side, and he probably has another year. 69 seconds is a lot! He also wants to win all the majors, which means it's difficult to fit in Berlin which is the most likely record-eligible course to break the world record. Maybe he'll go after it next year and leave NYC to 2024. Also possible is to organise a special record-eligible race for him with other runners competing.

Only a matter of time before we see a ridiculous 16m Triple Jump from Yulimar Rojas! Was really looking forward to Steven Gardiner's outdoor season after breaking Lyles's indoor 300m WR by a huge 0.31s margin at the start of the year, so disappointed we didn't get him vs Michael Norman this season :( Hope him & Wayde van Niekerk who finished strong with his fastest time of 44.33 in 5yrs come back healthy next year!

Wow, this video from Total Running Productions was absolutely mind-blowing! I can't believe the level of athleticism and dedication these runners have to achieve these world records. It's truly inspiring. Great job on the clip, it was definitely worth watching in full!
Looking at the 400mH finals again it is just insane. The #2 and #3 athletes of all time (over 0.3 seconds over #4 all time) are in the same race, and the camera man can't keep them in frame of McLaughlin. The time and margin of victory really is hard to wrap my head around. I remember watching it live, and when she ran out so strongly, I thought the pressure had gotten to her and she was gonna struggle coming home.. then Sydney just kept going and gapping the field. I don't know what new training techniques or strategy we've found for the 400 hurdles, but on both the Men's and Women's side, possibilities are being rewritten!
We have some fine athletes this days. Not only cross country skiing. Which only we care about. Haaland, Ødegård, Warholm, and i guess Casper Ruud. And Jacob himself.

He's doing exactly what Sergey Bubka did in the eighties and nineties. He broke the world record in the pole vault 35 times and held the world record for almost 21 years. Total domination and made a lot of money in the process.

World records this year are just a preview of what’s to come next year. I think Yehualaw will prove herself on the marathon even more, Jakob I hope will break the 1500 wr, and I really think that Kipchoge’s world record is endanger, not just by himself.
I don't think Jakob is all that close just yet. He could get there, but 2.3 seconds is a lot when you're already under 3:30. Jakob has had quite a few well paced max efforts at the 1500m and has consistently gotten in the 3:28 - 3:30 range.

Emil Zatopek is the G.R.O.A.T. according to Runners World Magazine. Look at his career, especially his Helsinki Triple. The Africans have tried to duplicate it, but can’t. He set Olympic Records in the 5,000, 10,000 and the Marathon. It was his first marathon, never running more than 15 miles before. He beat the WR holder Jim Peters. He had a gland infection before this Olympics, and his doctor told him not to go.
Thank you for putting together an outstanding video. Just a couple of points. Duplantis' name is Armand, and he is certainly not from Sweden. Mondo was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana. He was able to gain Swedish citizenship by virtue of his mother being a Swede. This makes it easier for him to compete in the European track circuit, which is far more lucrative than competing in the US. If, as you said, he can continue to dominate the sport for another decade, he might one day be considered the greatest ahead of Bubka.
It’s Sydney McClaughlin’s great strength that makes her effort in the 400 hurdles look so easy. That’s why I compared her striding to the great Secretariat!

How fast could McLaughlin go if she had an elite guy running with her? Get her someone who can run a 49 consistently and put him in the race. (I know those guys don't grow on trees, but there are a few.)
Seeing these Marathoners hitting those finish line “tarps” at the end of the race… is it possible… in 2023 to invent a ‘break away’ finish line canvass thing of some kind??? Last thing I want to hit when I finish a race is something that could wrap my legs up and trip and fall to injury after enduring so much. Come on now!
I just dont think 400 meter hurdles compares to long distance running. Its a tiny sport. There's so many more people, both amateurs or pro , running the 1500 up to the marathon. Kipchoge should be on top. From my Norwegian perspective I also think Jakobs 1500 and 5000 meter golds are far above Warholm, despite Warholm has the world record. 400 meter hurdles is too small a sport. Its like comparing running to rowing. I bet much more people row than run 400 meter hurdles. And what about the triatlon world records of Blummenfelt? Triatlon is much bigger than 400 meter hurdles.

Triple jump is one of those events that seems weird and arbitrary to me. How did someone decide this was a thing? Why is there no double jump, or quadruple jump? They all seem equally arbitrary.
It's fascinating, right? I find the same with the running distances and weights of throwing implements. I'm looking forward to the day when someone does the next revolutionary technique of jumping higher. One thing is for sure, technology and rules will always bend in order to help records get higher, faster, longer.
Do you think the down time , reduced racing, in 2020 and 2021 helped the athletes to do better in 2022? Maybe they race too much on a regular basis to set records. ( I know they need to race a lot to make a living) Just throwing that hypothesis out there.

Sorokin is amazing, but with that kind of milage and time on feet, the advantages of freaking Alphaflys (come on now) cannot be underestimated. None of the most serious ultra runners-- and their records he has challenged-- wore anything of the sort.
Technology is a factor across the board in modern sport, right? The shoes, the 'legal' supplements, the tracks, the training science, video analysis, biometrics, etc., all contribute to a very different landscape as we compare performances across timelines.
Great video, but Let’s be clear about Sorokin, he’s the Best Road/timed event ultra marathoner. The sport is way too wide to claim a few fast flat times as “THE BEST” in a sport that ranges from road 50k, last man standing, historic trail events etc.
When I saw Kipchoge's #2 spot, I wondered, "Who else could be first?" And then I remembered McLaughlin's dominance lol.
Kipchoge deserves number 1 more in my opinion.

Aleksandr Sorokin is very possibly the greatest runner alive and of all time. He was 40 when he ran almost 200 miles in 24 hours.

Not this generation probably. A few athletes have a tiny chance at the 200m, but the 100m is out of reach.

Sorokin is amazing, but with that kind of milage and time on feet, the advantages of freaking Alphaflys (come on now) cannot be underestimated. None of the most serious ultra runners-- and their records he has challenged-- wore anything of the sort.
Technology is a factor across the board in modern sport, right? The shoes, the 'legal' supplements, the tracks, the training science, video analysis, biometrics, etc., all contribute to a very different landscape as we compare performances across timelines.

Great video, but Let’s be clear about Sorokin, he’s the Best Road/timed event ultra marathoner. The sport is way too wide to claim a few fast flat times as “THE BEST” in a sport that ranges from road 50k, last man standing, historic trail events etc.
Couldn’t kipchoge have hand cyclists pace him to a sub 2 in a normal race?
