I’m here to say today Elaine Thompson Herah of Jamaica broke the 100m Olympic record so I hope people would stop associating Flo Jo’s success with drugs because some people are just that good. RIP Flo Jo and congrats Elaine ❤️
@@Will-pn2rn it's a highly questionable record , even then people were questioning that 10:49 seconds .Flo Jo ran her best times over a couple of months then disappear
People say she improved too quickly however, sounds like she had a lot going on with her family and track career. Whatever you may think, I love and always will Flo Jo! She had the most beautiful stride ever!
If that was a white sprinter record under same circumstances nothing would be said or challenged. To me it was definitely hard work and dedication, her work ethics was unmatched, and she had the best coaching from her husband and legendary coach. I've been a part of the industry especially when it comes to drug testing, it can be traced back 10 yrs. Now maybe back then they didn't do hair samples just urine and blood. Still today whatever tests they have done have come up 💯% clean so stop the madness please. SHE IS THE UNDISPUTED GOAT, EVEN IF SOMEONE ELSE BREAKS HER RECORD SHE WILL ALWAYS BE 1 OF THE BEST.
@DanielSong39 10.49 they had no wind during her race nor the next 100 meter race right after her. She then went on to run a 10.54 so 10.49 definitely happened 💁🏾♀️
I’m not even sure why #FloJo just came to my thoughts, but I’m thankful for a source like RUclips. I vaguely remember her races, as I was a child when she was competing. I do remember her style...her pretty face, hair, nails, and the trendsetting race attire from seeing pictures of her. Again, thanks to RUclips and the people who put videos like this together, I and many others can relive history. Rest in Paradise with the #Ancestors Queen Florence Griffith Joyner!! 🙏🏾✊🏾❤️💯
Wind-assisted times are the same for everyone in a single race. The wind is different over thousands of races run. Everyone running to beat world records will be subject to different race conditions. It is an important factor to the sprinters' speed in order to compare performances over time.
@@claudetteh67 It did. everyone in the race ran a personal best. hmmmm. and those who advanced to the next rounds ran slower. So, you mean to tell us that flo-jo ran a 10.49 with no wind in the quarter final, but then ran a 10.61 with a 1.3 tailwind? Nahhh. that quarterfinal had about a 5.0 wind, but the wind gauge malfunctioned.

@@smoothnubian Exactly right, and supposedly then went on to run slower in the Olympic final with a +3.0 wind? 🤔 Nobody in that race ever came close to their official PB from that race ever again. I think Flo Jo was ahead of her time by 35 years and is as fast as the women from today. The best of them can and have all run 10.70 basic, 10.6's with legal winds. 10.58 should be possible with a max 2.0 tailwind. It appears that with current rules and technology 10.49 is actually outside attainability.
I used to wonder if she doped, but there's a reasonable explanation for her fast times. There was something up with the wind on the 10.49 second time. She had fantastic technique, perhaps better than any other man or woman. If her real best non-wind aided time is 10.61, then that is only three-hundreths of a second faster than the next fastest woman.
Tested this woman a million times, found nothing in her system even after her death, and the haters will still hate. RIP to the GOAT! 👑 They try to tear down every great female athlete.

The greatest athlete of all time, without ANY shadow of a doubt, JESSIE OWENS. Clean as a whistle. 4 world records in one afternoon, including long jump, and 220 hurdles. 4 gold medals in Berlin. 100m in 10.3 A world record 200m. His long jump record remained unbeaten for 25 years. Unbelievable. A beautifully smooth and economic running style. His performances were on heavy blaze tracks. Wearing heavy leather spikes. In today's world, with feather light shoes, all weather smooth tracks, modern training, diet, ect. Jesse Owens would be untouchable!! Bolt included. In my opinion. He's the greatest ever. A credit to the sport, his country, and his race. He was running faster in 1936 than Ben Johnson was before being juiced. Can you even begin to imagine what he would achieve in today's world
FloJo should be respected not just as a deceased but a legend who worked hard to top her game from an early age. Marion Jones claimed that no one could break FloJo's 10.49 record unless they were on drugs, yet she used drugs and never did! Same thing too with Gatlin, but no matter how much drugs he could have taken, Bolt was always faster without drugs! FloJo and Bolt are legendary outliers, period!
No but thats being pointed out for such low wr time not her win, no body questioned her win, its the time that she clocked that raised eyebrows, and yes may be it wasn't the wind but what was it then? Just shear talent or .......
The wind killed her at 38 years of age. So terribly sad for a great athlete who was destroyed by drugs. She changed appallingly in the year or two before soeul. He jaw line had become masculine, she had facial hair and a masculine voice and the muscle tone of a male. She tried desperately to hide it with excessive make up and long nails. She reached the holy grail but it cost her with her life sad.
Flo-Jo's technique is the real secret. When you watch her running in her early days it's especially noticeable - arms crossing her body, her head is wobbling around, she's not even running in a completely straight line, yet she was still very fast. Obviously her coach and her husband both recognised this and worked very hard on sorting that out, as well as improving her strength of course. When you look at her running at her best her technique is absolutely flawless - that is textbook sprinting technique, which everyone knows about but few are ever able to attain that level of discipline. She must have trained very hard indeed to achieve that. As for the drugs accusations, well, maybe it's true, maybe it isn't. But when you consider the Russians and East Germans who comprised her opponents were drugged to the eyeballs on all manner of steroids and whatnot (this is fact - the East Germans in particular had a state run program with detailed records of who was given what and when. A number of those people went to jail, and the steroid usage was so bad that some of those women are now men) and Flo-Jo STILL absolutely FLOGGED them. If she was taking drugs she was just leveling the playing field really. So yes, maybe she did use drugs, but so did everyone in that era. Strength and power will only get you so far - her flawless technique was her real weapon. Even today with all the knowledge and training methods there are very few sprinters who run as flawlessly as Flo-Jo did. She was the perfect balance of talent, ability, and technique.
I once knew a gal who used to run both track and cross country many, many years ago. While most trained as sprinters,, she trained for cross country marathons and ran for miles everyday, rain or shine. She was thin, and her bone structure was a lot like Flo-jo had. She was of mixed African/ Cuban descent , and looked very unique. My point is, I know for a fact this young lady never used performance enhancement drugs. She was a devout Christian. She reminded me a lot of Flo-jo in that she was very family oriented as well and a hard worker. Her body was toned and athletic and got more so, the more she trained. It's possible in some women (who train) to look like that without drugs. Flo-jo was a champion. Some just never met one like her, and probably never will. They're one of a kind. RIP Ms Joyner. 💔
Whilst that was a fascinating read, not many will remember that Flo-Jo was actually a pretty "average" athlete prior to this miracle world record and even her impossibly fast final time (10.61) that would still win Olympic gold today. Prior to these games her fastest 100m time was 4 tenths slower. 4 tenths! You can't blame people for thinking doping was involved given the enormous leap in times, plus many other things. Her physical appearance changed, her voice deepened, her sudden exit from competitions when drug testing became mandatory and maybe the most obvious thing of all - modern day female athletes still can't get anywhere close after more than 30 years. Elaine Thompson-Herah is the best we've ever seen since Flo-Jo but still no record, not even close when you think about speed vs distance over 100m.
Maybe the wind was at her back … not! You can see how cut she was. She was on her game and focused and boom, blew everyone away. Fastest woman in the world. Period.
Flo Jo is my childhood memory, I was 8 years old when she made world record in 100 metres. Her running style was unique. At that time, i read in newspaper that her birthday at 21st. December same as mine. RIP Flo Jo, you are a legend. Love from 🇮🇳.
The thing that stands out to me about Flo Jo and Bolt is they both crushed the field with flawless running form. Critics accuse these superbly talented athletes with cheating while completely disregarding their demonstrably superior form. No sprinters I've ever seen (juiced or not) are nearly as refined and graceful. I personally attribute their world class success to superior mechanics and training, once you attain that no performance enhancing drugs are needed to utterly dominate.
Have a look at Bolt and then have a look at Flo Jo. Bolt was an absolute freak. So was Flo Jo but she took help and plenty of it. She took more drugs than the Rolling Stones.
I think people only say that cause they are the fastest. I honestly can't believe there is nobody else with a 'perfect' form. I even doubt that they have the best form.

The accusations stem from Flo Jo's dramatic improvement from being a silver medalist in 84 to running good but not remarkable times in 87 to then running unbelievable times in 88. There's no doubt that her running form is impeccable. however In addition to her "sudden" explosion of speed in 88, I personally question her more muscular appearance and the fact that she retired right after blowing the field away. Also her retirement coincided with new rules on random drug testing after various athletes were busted for ped use at the 88 Olympics in Seoul

@@tonylove4800 Flo Jo achieved her results through hard training. She didn't need doping. That's the point here. She changed coaches, she and her husband developed new training methods, which brought the long-awaited success, in addition to the work put in. If they want, they can come for testing every week of the year. I have nothing to hide." Her husband says all the talk boils down to jealousy. He said his wife's astonishing gains are the result of being "trained as a man." He added: “We bought a $150 leg exerciser and she did leg rolls every night. Over 20 pounds every night to add strength to your legs. She worked 12 hours a day.” Only those who have nothing to hide say so. FloJo's death was caused by an epileptic seizure due to a congenital brain disorder, sadly drowned RIP. Florence Griffith Joyner retires from the field On February 22, 1989, five months after the Seoul Olympic Games, Griffith Joyner announced her retirement from track and field. When discussing her retirement with Liguori, Griffith Joyner said: "I retired in 1989 because I could no longer train at 100%, the way I used to train. If I can't give it my all, I don't want to give it at all." Griffith Joyner moved on with her life. She became a mother, pursued fashion design and continued to combine sports and style. She even designed the 1990 NBA uniforms for the Indiana Pacers. After the death of Florence Griffith Joyner, doping allegations against her intensified. Many believed that illegal performance enhancers may have contributed to her death. However, after the autopsy, Dr. Richard Fukumoto, forensic medicine expert, clearly stated that no changes caused by steroids or other doping agents could be detected in her body. "This report allows Florence Griffith Joyner to rest in peace," said Primo Nebiolo, then president of the International Association of Athletics Federations. “Her family has had to endure incredible media attacks, many trying to undermine her legacy without any real evidence. This campaign harmed the entire sport and the anti-doping campaign. I expect more responsible behavior from media representatives in the future. I hope that after this, many members of the athletic world will assure the family of their love and sympathy." The 100m and 200m world record holder is FloJo, these are the facts. Facts are stubborn things. "FloJo was juicing". These are just assumptions. The truth is, no one has ever proven these allegations. So FloJo's world records are and will remain official. I don't see anyone who can topple them. FloJo achieved her results with the perfect harmony of body, soul and spirit. Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Florence Griffith Joyner's style and speed brought her international fame, but her Olympic performance was clouded by skepticism. A year after the Games, in 1989, a former American athlete named Darrell Robinson told a European magazine that Griffith Joyner had given her money to buy growth hormones. Griffith Joyner denied the allegations, telling the New York Times, "It's all made up lies about drugs. I'd be crazy to do drugs." In 1998, sports commentator John Feinstein said on NPR's Morning Edition, "The rumors were in Seoul in 1988, and I think the first thing to note is that he never tested positive," he said. "But she became a star late. She was 28 at the time... These rumors will always be there and she's been asked about them throughout her career, which she's always denied." The International Olympic Committee's medical board says it conducted rigorous drug testing on Griffith Joyner during the 1988 Olympics - and it always came back negative. Griffith Joyner spoke to journalist Ann Liguori about the allegations in 1991: "I knew I had never taken drugs, so I didn't let it bother me when people said that. I knew it was something that was in the news," she said. "People were looking for personal things to point at the athletes. Try not to buy it and just focus on what needs to be done and move on." I know it's hard to accept the fact that FloJo is the best in the world, pure. No one has ever proven that it is muddy. That being said, I understand that you are suffering and trying to smear FloJo's memory, but that only qualifies you. Your baseless accusations are just trying to reassure me, I am calm because I know the truth about FloJo's purity. So you can say anything until you prove that your words are empty. . Who's going to question what Marion says isn't that fair cuz even Flo Jo was running that 4 by 400 and that 4by 100m you see she didn't have the edge of her juice and these German girl run past her n 4 by 100 she literally got even one of four by four hundred and couldn't make a dent unlike what was expected 100 relay leg a lot 4 by 400 you could tell she was on the juice and when I juice wore off she wasn't running as good
Marion also never ran faster than her own pb set while she was running clean! 8 years of professionally administered drug use and she never got faster, only far more consistent. In terms of sprinting drugs are a shortcut to being in optimal shape but they never increase your genetic fast twitch percentage. FloJo and Jeter had world record genetics.
She started a strength training and weight program that put some muscle on those legs and arms. Then started running and training alongside her husband and coach. Naturally she's going to start surpassing all the other women on the field because she's not training or running by the old goals or standards. She's upped the bar.
What you are saying is very strange in our days all the runners training better then her because we know better in physics and mental then we knew 30 years ago so I don’t think that her training do her better because if so why the athletes in our times don’t even getting close to her record? I think her records and bolt’s records need to be disqualified if one person do a strange time he need to disqualified take ex. For lans Armstrong even though he never got caught still eventually everyone knew that he uses steroids
She added all that muscle inside one year and in the same year lowered her voice significantly and developed different facial features. Its IMPOSSIBLE at that age to nearly double your muscle size and explode like that with running times. She developed the muscles exactly how your androgenic receptors for testosterone are placed in our body. It was more than obvious. She not only took steroids but used it up to the max with synthetic testosterone AND other roids in combination. The eastern bloc athletes also all took roids and ran times they never reached again like that after random drug testing got enforced. The two fastest women with tons of more refined training were also on drugs and still did not catch her times. Marion Jones / Jeter who worked for a long time with a known PED coach.
@@listrahtes exactly. Especially women's estrogen (sex hormone) prevent the upper body muscle build up. And the fact that there was no one comes close (even with better training and ranning technique improvement), compared to minor progress in male athletes.
Flo Jo was beautiful, stylish, and classy, she was also the fastest woman on earth. Whispers don't mean a thing without solid proof and there was none, so people should show respect to this great athlete's memory.
I absolutely agree. It’s sad to see so many equating her talent to steroid use instead of seeing that she was indeed a force to be reckoned with. It’s disheartening that people won’t just give this woman the respect that she deserves. Just because others haven’t beaten her times does not mean that it was impossible for her to run. Sometimes as humans are bodies are capable of doing extraordinary things that we never even realized was possible.
@@crystalking2727 Tell that to the great athletes she beat in Seoul that she cheated out of medals. Tell that to her family she cheated out of years of her company.
@@tonylove4800 I’m not telling anyone anything. There is no absolute proof that she didn’t do anything that she has been accused of. People always want to accuse someone of something because no one has broke her records yet. Until there is concrete proof on the subject May I suggest people shut up and respect this woman’s legacy and her family. Does anyone even care how these rumors have affected her family? I suppose not because people have made the choice to continue to try and diminish her legacy.
Her form is essentially perfect, def an inspiration coming from the ghetto and being the 7th out of 10. It's obvious she has a great exercise regimen and tenacity. Her body changed dramatically likely due to body building through exercise. Rest her soul!!!
What's coming from the ghetto got to do with anything? Every sport is full of clean champions who came from "ghettos" all over the world. Ali, Pele, Joe Louis, Jack Johnson, Ronaldo, Jesse Owens. Now they are all heroes, Clean. And totally inspirational. You should choose your heroes carefully.
So, a drug-infuced Ben Johnson ran the 100m in an amazing world record time of 9.79sec and a drug-free Usain Bolt ran the same distance in 9.58sec, yet y'all don't believe Flo Jo coulda had natural ability to run like she did? Remember Marion Jones, a naturally gifted athlete, could run no faster than 10.65secs even when she was on drugs. My argument: even if Flo Jo was on drugs, she had to have exceptional ability to make such outstanding records. So, I choose to give her the props for her talent. Rest in Peace, Flo Jo. Someday, a faster athlete will break your records, then people will learn to think differently about you.
The difference is bolt has been breaking records since he was 15 and didn't just come out of no where and all of a sudden start breaking records after not running for a couple years. Bolt to this day holds the 200m records for 15,16,17 and 18 year olds and obviously world records.
What do you mean think differently? Do you mean believe she wasn't cheating? Nope, it'll never happen. Grown adults with acne, wearing braces because their jaws were growing due to the amount of steriods they were taking. 1984 was a circus. Anyone caught doping from the sprint squads? They knew in advance that they wouldn't be. L.A. was going to out shine Moscow 1980. They were given the go ahead years in advance. Fact. The East Germans, and all the Eastern block had been at it for years, This was America beating them at their own game. Sad but true. Athletics was rife with it, even Junior level. I'm afraid that most of the great and legendary sprinters from 1972 onwards were cheats. The power events the same. The chemists in South Korea ran riot with them, as they were ahead of the game. Numerous feigned injuries, or drop outs, even deliberate disqualifications from very high profile athletes, because they didn't want tested. Things have moved on, it's even worse now. Much more sophisticated. Even when they are caught, they are allowed to compete again. They should be banned for life, and every single honour and record removed.
@@DuckHunterGaming correct. I doubt he is cheating. The most tested athlete in the world. You are spot on also in that you can't appear from nowhere and run sub 10 seconds, it's bullshit. Only those who don't have the knowledge and experience of the sport, would really believe the utterly ridiculous amount of athletes doing waay under 10 seconds. No chance. Bolt was world junior 200m champion at 15. I mean my god, juniors start at 18 normally. Youths 15-17 depending upon D.O.B. He might not even have been a Youth. He has ALWAYS been in a different league. I hope we don't find out otherwise, it would be sad, I've always regarded him as the cheat beater.
Incorrect. Drugs make a huge difference to most sprinters. Ben Johnston's average time for 100m was 10.4 Then after some bionic injections it was 8.9 or around there. There are plenty of clean athletes, unfortunately they are seldom standing on podiums at big events. So, no it wasn't exceptional ability, it was exceptional drugs.
2019: Never before have we seen an athlete like Florence Griffith Joyner and it is unlikely that we will again. Elaine Thompson in 2021: Hold my beer!!
Flo Jo never used drugs. She tested negative for drugs 11 times in 9 months in 1988 because the doubters couldn't believe her results. The fact is she improved when she could dedicate herself to training (rather than working at a bank to help support her family) with the best trainers in the world. She never once missed or failed a drug test. She was not only a consummate athlete, she was a world-class human being who smiled through adversity and flew miles above the haters.
Lifting program, training on mechanics, and special supplements ;) (PED'S) Her technique is beautiful, it's ahead of its time. What's incredible is that she didn't preserve herself in the qualifying and semi-final races. She ran hard in every race. I think she retired because of the PED's. People were on her tail about it. Plus Athletics USA have always covered their athletes, most famously Carl Lewis. May she rest in peace.
Yes USA covered their athletes alright. Covered by the media- letting everyone they were caught on doping violations. If you passed your tests..cool but if you didn't- everyone knew.
swolsauce you refer her running style? Yes technically she was very good... Ok... Everybody says she was drug but drug or not I think her 100m record was surely winded... so I prefer considering FloJo record older but with 10.61 and not with 10.49... then if she was drug I can only suspecting it
What's interesting about her legacy is that after she set those incredible times the authorities tested Flo Jo for PED's and didn't find any. Then, after she passed away in her sleep, the autopsy didn't reveal any drugs in her system, ever! So why do skeptical critics still say that she used drugs when she had numerous races where she put up awesome times, and she did it while looking so fabulous and flawless? From the time she was a teenager until college, she proved that she had talent and potential... It took her a little time after that to put it all together, but her training and commitment to get better certainly paid off. Watch this video again, that Sista was kicking a..! Did you see that other woman pull up lame trying to keep up but her body obviously was like WTF? Flo Jo did it naturally, she had pure talent. Therefore, she didn't need any "man-made-scientific-synthetic-artificial-junk" to help her win!
You missed out one massive flaw! You got told in advance when you was getting tested! Only after 1988 unannounced testing started and all of a sudden during her peak powers she retires 😂😂😂 I wonder why hmmmmm
She will always be one of the greatest no matter what Let the haters hate because she was just blessed by the almighty and no one can take that away from her R I P FLOW JO👊🏿
@@nyawoods4343 It's a moral issue: Flo Jo achieved her results through hard training. She didn't need doping. That's the point here. She changed coaches, she and her husband developed new training methods, which brought the long-awaited success, in addition to the work put in. A statement from Flo Jo and her husband, Al Joyner: “I know exactly what people say about me,” she said. "And that's just not true." I don't need to use drugs. Do 12 hours of leg training a day for months and you'll set the world record. Period. There are interviews with her from 1984 where her voice is exactly the same. She always had a deep voice. Her voice is also deep in the training video made in 1994, even though she hasn't competed in years. Flo Jo's death was caused by an epileptic seizure due to a congenital brain disorder, sadly drowned RIP. Florence Griffith Joyner retires from the field On February 22, 1989, five months after the Seoul Olympic Games, Florence Griffith Joyner announced her retirement from track and field. When discussing her retirement with Liguori, Florence Griffith Joyner said: "I retired in 1989 because I could no longer train at 100%, the way I used to train. If I can't give it my all, I don't want to give it at all." Florence Griffith Joyner moved on with her life. I hope that after this, many members of the athletic world will assure the family of their love and sympathy." The 100m and 200m world record holder is Flo Jo, these are the facts. Facts are stubborn things. "Flo Jo was juicing". These are just assumptions. The truth is, no one has ever proven these allegations. So Flo Jo's world records are and will remain official. I don't see anyone who can topple them. Flo Jo achieved her results with the perfect harmony of body, soul and spirit. Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Florence Griffith Joyner's style and speed brought her international fame, but her Olympic performance was clouded by skepticism. A year after the Games, in 1989, a former American athlete named Darrell Robinson told a European magazine that Florence Griffith Joyner had given her money to buy growth hormones. Florence Griffith Joyner denied the allegations, telling the New York Times, "It's all made up lies about drugs. I'd be crazy to do drugs." In 1998, sports commentator John Feinstein said on NPR's Morning Edition, "The rumors were in Seoul in 1988, and I think the first thing to note is that he never tested positive," he said. "But she became a star late. She was 28 at the time... These rumors will always be there and she's been asked about them throughout her career, which she's always denied." The International Olympic Committee's medical board says it conducted rigorous drug testing on Florence Griffith Joyner during the 1988 Olympics - and it always came back negative. Florence Griffith Joyner spoke to journalist Ann Liguori about the allegations in 1991: "I knew I had never taken drugs, so I didn't let it bother me when people said that. I knew it was something that was in the news," she said. "People were looking for personal things to point at the athletes. Try not to buy it and just focus on what needs to be done and move on." I know it's hard to accept the fact that Flo Jo is the best in the world, pure. No one has ever proven that it is muddy. That being said, I understand that you are suffering and trying to smear Flo Jo's memory, but that only qualifies you. Your baseless accusations are just trying to reassure me, I am calm because I know the truth about Flo Jo's purity. So you can say anything until you prove that your words are empty. . She is the only woman to hold 2 athletics world records for more than 35 years. I'm sorry you can't understand that there are people in our world who can create admirable acts without any doping. DYOR The Jamaicans and Flo Jo's American opponents want to erase her official world records. I understand the reason for this: It is hard for them to bear that there was such an excellent athlete who achieved such fantastic results without doping. The envy, jealousy, anger that they may feel because of this becomes palpable to those who can sense it. It's easier for people to make accusations, find excuses, smear someone (Flo Jo) if their goal is not to acknowledge the wonderful achievements of a certain person. Such is human nature...

When you reach the TOP people will do anything and everything to knock you down. She was an exceptional athlete and a legend. Those who doubted her have to live with the facts, WR multiple times.
You need to understand Flo Jo's life. For various reasons including having to work for a living and despite some earlier achievements, she really only focused seriously on athletics at the end of her career. At 29 years of age, having achieved everything that can be achieved in athletics, and having lot of other passions in life, why would you keep going? What sets her apart, is her biomechanics - the most perfect, relaxed and efficient technique I have seen.
Pardon me but that's kind of BS reason. Evelyn Ashford had a child after the 84 Olympics and came back. Before Flo Jo's rise to fame, Evelyn was the world holder in the 100. By the same logic Evelyn should have retired too. She event came back for the 92 Olympics.
Loved Flo-Jo, my favorite sprinter of all time. I had such a big crush on her...or was it lust! I envied Al Joyner! What made her such a great sprinter was her long, powerful stride that was also relaxed and economical.
NO COMPARISON at all. You obviously never competed even on the NCAA D1 level (like many of us in this discussion thread have previously done.) Van Niekerk was already on track to match or break the World Record two years before he finally did it, you clown.
@Dave V Dave, please read my earlier comment, above. I AGREE WITH YOU that Florence Griffith-Joyner competed with the aid of performance-enhancing drugs. You attempted to link Van Kiekerk's WR performance to Flo Jo's WR performances, and that comparison is not valid. Van Niekerk is clean, all the way.
It's really hard not to be skeptical of any record set in the 80s that's still untouchable today. Steroid use was rampant and the drug testing wasn't as sophisticated. I feel bad for the athletes that train clean and have absolutely no shot at these records.
The women's records from 100 metres through to 800 metres should all be scrubbed. Did all three athletes really think that people wouldn't question their 'remarkable' performances and records?

I wanted so much to believe that her records are legit. I mean at 10.49, she would have medalled in the men's Southeast Asian Games 100m dash. Yet, a year after setting those records, she retired abruptly. 10 years later, she was dead at 38. The excessive growth of organs also known as acromegalia (especially that of her heart) discovered during her post mortem were most probably due to HGH. That could also explained how she went from 10.76 to 10.49 after a long layoff in 1988. And there was also a Darrel Robinson's 1989 interview about helping her to buy growth hormone the year before. Although she couldn't save herself from untimely death, lack of depth in drug testing technology in the 80s means that her records remained intact until now. On the other hand, Marion Jones was rather unlucky to have raced in the 2000s.
@@Trackreator I meant source that Elaine ran 10:54, but never mind I guess she did. Still Flo Jo ran a legal time of 10.49, still 6/10 of a second faster than Elaine, which is not small.
Absolutely flawless mechanics. Zero wasted motion. And she was 10 years ahead of the game with regards to strength training. Probably had a very strict but well-rounded diet plan as well.
In the track and field world they know you can't lower your times that much , especially later in your career. Her early death points to performance enhancing drugs.
It depends on so many factors. For instance, we watch Shelly-Anne, VCB, Elaine Thompson, etc., start the season running 11.2, 11.1, then end up running 10.7 at the end of the season. Flo-Jo clearly mastered her training and technique. Even if she was on drugs, it is absolutely impossible for her to run such times without flawless mechanics, and to this day, no single male or female sprinter has faster ground contact time than she...not even Usain Bolt. That means her speed was tremendously due to her sprinting mechanics alone.
The negative effects of Performance enhancement drugs definitely killed Flo Jo later in life . It's hard to respect her legacy when you factor she and her team cheated .
The thing with the wind is all of the athletes had the same wind and she was waaay ahead of them.
It's not to say she didn't win but to recognize the WR.

To me it was definitely hard work and dedication, her work ethics was unmatched, and she had the best coaching from her husband and legendary coach. Wind-assisted times are the same for everyone in a single race. The wind is different over thousands of races run. Everyone running to beat world records will be subject to different race conditions. It is an important factor to the sprinters' speed in order to compare performances over time.

That’s not the point.
Pretty clear her drugs were the real secret.

The drugs, the cheating . . . She chose to end her life early for that success so she had guts, I guess.
@@tonylove4800 Flo Jo achieved her results through hard training. She didn't need doping. That's the point here.
She changed coaches, she and her husband developed new training methods, which brought the long-awaited success, in addition to the work put in.
A statement from FloJo and her husband, Al Joyner:
“I know exactly what people say about me,” she said. "And that's just not true." I don't need to use drugs. She worked 12 hours a day.”
Only those who have nothing to hide say so.
Do 12 hours of leg training a day for months and you'll set the world record.
Period.
There are interviews with her from 1984 where her voice is exactly the same. She always had a deep voice. Her voice is also deep in the training video made in 1994, even though she hasn't competed in years.
I hope that after this, many members of the athletic world will assure the family of their love and sympathy."
The 100m and 200m world record holder is FloJo, these are the facts.
Try not to buy it and just focus on what needs to be done and move on."
I know it's hard to accept the fact that FloJo is the best in the world, pure. No one has ever proven that it is muddy. That being said, I understand that you are suffering and trying to smear FloJo's memory, but that only qualifies you. Your baseless accusations are just trying to reassure me, I am calm because I know the truth about FloJo's purity. So you can say anything until you prove that your words are empty. .
Flo Jo was a man competing with women!
Ben Johnston's average time for 100m was 10.4
Then after some bionic injections it was 8.9 or around there.
There are plenty of clean athletes, unfortunately they are seldom standing on podiums at big events.
So, no it wasn't exceptional ability, it was exceptional drugs.

But we know now they were all on drugs, doesn't matter it was a level playing field she was the best even almost to this day

It's a moral issue: Flo Jo achieved her results through hard training. She didn't need doping. That's the point here.
She changed coaches, she and her husband developed new training methods, which brought the long-awaited success, in addition to the work put in.
A statement from Flo Jo and her husband, Al Joyner:
“I know exactly what people say about me,” she said. "And that's just not true." I don't need to use drugs.
I hope that after this, many members of the athletic world will assure the family of their love and sympathy."
The 100m and 200m world record holder is Flo Jo, these are the facts.
Try not to buy it and just focus on what needs to be done and move on."
I know it's hard to accept the fact that Flo Jo is the best in the world, pure.
DYOR
The Jamaicans and Flo Jo's American opponents want to erase her official world records.

The world record over the 100-meter-dash on the women side should be 10.54 seconds which Elaine Thompson-Herah ran in 2021.
