- I have developed several parts kits to aid in the restoration of the venerable ARC-5 command set. This video showcases a restored radio and the conversion philosophy as well as the components. My goal was to rebuild the radio with an inverter, to supply the 250 DC B+ and to modify the tube filaments to 12 volt DC, in order to operate the radio from a standard 12 volt DC station supply. The conversion process takes approximately 6 hours. You may contact me with questions or a parts price list at N3LLL@KITPARTS.COM I also supply other add on parts for older Collin's Radio gear, tom, N3LLL For more information Kits List Schematics etc. visit

Tom, it was a pleasure to meet you at Belton last Saturday. I will care for and treasure the AM broadcast receiver I purchased from you. 73, Mack, W4AX
Beautiful. I have 3 receivers to restore, and after looking at this, I probably have to redo the first I restored. Brilliant idea with the capacitor "bracket"
Excellent video. I have some of them for restoring.Thank your for all those suggestions, 73s from EA2AFI
Tom, nicely done! 73 AA4HA
Tom, Nice video. I have a complete set of 3 that have been nicely restored. They came with 1 separate power supply/speaker.
I also just received a mystery BC-455-B that looks like it had a power supply added many decades ago. It powers on but there's no antenna jack on the front. There is an RCA phono jack, and a 4-prong jones plug harness on the back with 295 VDC. Maybe to power a transmitter? The inside looks all original. There is an S Meter on the front panel. If I hook a speaker to the phono jack, I get no sound. If I attach an antenna to it, I get no movement on the meter.
I bought in an estate sale to keep it from going to the dump. I plan to sell it but was hoping to demonstrate it too.

Great video
Excellent work & very professional looking results!! Wonder if you're doing anything as innovative about mating a tuning knob to the original spline arrangement?
Tom, very nice video and kits. What is the make and part number for the audio output transformer? I need one that will fit in the space of the original one.
Hi Tom, Do you still have the cap replacement kit for the ARC-5 radio. I want to order one from you. Thanks, Don KC1IEA
