    Lyrics:
    She's a strong woman
And she scare some men away
    She never had no problem
Choosing her own path of ways
    She never quite managed
To hide all the thoughts in her mind
She's opened up her own door ways
    Rather than be left behind
She's never had to lean on
    Any man...
    She listen's to her trumpet
Cause she's the leader of her band
    Cause I call her Ms...
    She so proud and strong
Ms she'll admit when she's wrong
They call her Ms... she's so much woman
She don't have to try to be no man
Ms. she so called, (background), Ms takes care of biz
    Her mother don't understand her
But she so far, far, from her mother ways
You see her daughter's a powerful lady
And she's got a whole lot to say
She's been called man hard by chance
Standing on her own two feet
    The swift doesn't want much
Don't nobody know like I do
That's why I'm proud and strong everyday
I'm so proud to tell you,
    I love you Ms.
    Your so proud and strong
Ms you'll admit when your wrong
    Ms Your so much woman,
You don't have to try to be no man

When I lived in Hollywood circa 1970-71 (in Hollywood Towers on Franklin Ave.), Dave was one of my buddies. We all hung out together. He was such a gentle soul... a great big guy with a heart of gold. He was playing in a soul club at that time. Flash forward a few years --> I am in a record store in Holland where I moved to, and suddenly see Dave's face staring up at me from this album cover, larger than life!!!!!! Awesome. So sad that he died so young. RIP... hugs!

My 30 year old daughter (who was 28 when you wrote this 2 years ago - so same age as your daughter) triggered my memory of this song also! For some reason I had remembered it as being sung by Cher but good ole RUclips keeps the memories straight for us! (I also hadn't thought of it in 40 years and was surprised that I remembered most of the lyrics!)

This was a big hit back in 1977, the LP was called Jamaican Man. When this song first came out David Oliver was often compared to Eddie Kendricks of the Temptations who is also Jamaican. I'll admit that the two sound very much a like, but in my opinion David has a bit more range and power. Unfortunately David died suddenly in the early 80's when he just in his mid 30's. Not sure if it was a stroke or heart attack. I haven't heard this track in many yrs. Thanks hsp 100 for the post.

I used the lyrics of this song for a high school project in '81/'82 at an all girls mostly white catholic school. Had a hard time recalling some of the lyrics and no one in my class knew the song. Anyway it resonated with me then and helped shape who I am today: a strong, powerful, able, opinionated woman with incredible tenacity, ambition and smarts fighting battles everyday in corporate america just to do the job I'm paid well to do while being deprived of the resources and sponsorship afforded to others doing similar work.

Same here, and all this time, and ever since I was a kid growing up in the ate 70s I always thought it was The Stylistics that did this track.
I must have the song "Hurry up this Way Again" on my brain, and thinking this song was just the follow up.
But there is CERTAINLY NO MISTAKEN that the 70s, 80s, and 90s were decades of pure soul, ESPECIALLY the 70s.

This was recorded back in my African American youth when they tried to silence the black culture and brainwash our beautiful black women from her worth and her self esteem and her ultimate destiny. Our mother's wore dresses 👗 high heels and hair designs while cooking 🍳 in the kitchen for their families refusing to be held back and held down breaking the chains of discrimination while singing WE SHALL OVERCOME PRAY 🙏

I met so many MSs over the years. Strong but sweet and wonderfully strong Black women. They endured poverty, hunger, welfare agents abusing them with threats. The men were defeated in the way society treated them, but it was many Black beautiful women who held the family together. Here's to you my beautiful ladies, your love will never be forgotten.
