Fantastic video! I did the repair, however, my gear was fine, but someone had been in there and didn’t put things back correctly. Figured it out and she is all buttoned up! Thanks a ton!
Thank you for posting this tutorial. As an aside, I do suggest doing a bench test before final assembly. The two pins you need to test against are the two that are by themselves in the plug on the top level. Just apply 12v and a ground to the pins. Reverse the polarity to test the mirror fold in the opposite direction.
My gears appeared fine but I replaced them anyway… and it worked! Thank you! CAUTION: The gearbox on my 2006 was glued shut and took almost 2 hours to pry open. I really beat it up!
Thanks for posting this. I was able to remove the mirror on my 06 and disable the motor. This is like paint by numbers! So easy. I'll go order the gear now to complete the repair.
That is a great video, may need to tackle this one soon. Complicated process, and I am worried about what I may break or dislocate during the repair. Thanks so much for posting!
Ordered your gear, what a great improvement over the original plastic gear that had cracked. Video was great, I had to do the near-final step of putting the mirror back in place twice as I missed one of the lower hinges. I was concerned that the mirror retraction function wasn't working correctly but once installed and I retracted the mirror via the switch and hit the switch again, everything clicked and works perfectly. Thanks.
Great video! You saved me $400+ if I would've bought an OEM mirror for just this this piece that was broken on my 06 Sequoia. I just broke off 3 out of 4 of the tabs on the motor cover🙃, but all good at least the mirror folds again!
Just did this. Excellent video. Worked like magic. I had to get 2 new gears. Plus one motor. All of it now works. Except the new motor side folds in and out quicker than the other haha 😆
I just watched your video today, wish I had watched it months ago. Super helpful and informative....learned how important reassembly is 🤣. My mirror now works!
Good morning! And thank you soooooo much sir! I’ve been looking for this detailed video for long! I can finally complete my repairs on my 05’ Sequoia😁😁😁✌🏾
Thanks! That's why we made this video. Between our two trees we've had three mirrors fail and we just couldn't find clear help. After taking over a year to find ONE replacement mirror on Ebay we decided to dive in and fix the other two ourselves. Some of the information out there is just flat wrong and we nearly destroyed one of the mirrors. That's when we decided to video fixing the third one the right way.
Thank you for this great video. Its not an easy procedure but I may give this a try. I have a 2007 Sequoia and this issue of the gear motor constantly running and making a noise on the right side mirror. So my question is do i need to do this process on both mirrors??? The driver side mirror doesn’t fold or function properly either but it isn’t the one making running the motor noise.
I'd say you can fix the one that is running. That is the classic symptom of a broken gear. The other one I'm not too sure about. Maybe it failed in a different way. Maybe it is unplugged. However, if it were unplugged then usually both sides turn off. Then again I've never had a broken gear on one side and unplugged the other. Maybe the broken gear side will keep running even if the other side is unplugged. I'd check behind the triangle tweeter panel first. That's easy. If it is unplugged, plug it back in and see if it runs non-stop too. If so then you should be able to fix both. Good luck! Let us know what you find.
@@TwinTreesChannel Hey my man! Just wanted to give an update. I ordered the part and followed your video and it was successful!! And regarding the drivers side mirror… you were 100% correct it was unplugged! However once I plugged it in… same issue it was making the grinding noise. So turns out i need to order another gear, At least I know now how to do it. I want to thank you again so much. Saved me 100s of dollars!
Thanks-that was a great video. I replaced the gear and put it back together, but the mirror no longer works. There is no noise, but the mirror does not fold in or adjust. The other side does not fold in, but I can adjust the mirror. Can you advise me on what I did wrong?
I'd check the connector on the motor housing, the one with the blue and green wires. It looks like just a wire pass-through but it is actually a connector that pulls out. If you did not pull this connector out when you removed the motor/gearbox housing, then it will break or bend the motor contacts inside the housing. You could also check under the mirror control switch on the center console. Sometimes people clip or disconnect a wire to keep the motor from running constantly when the gear breaks.
@@TwinTreesChannel@TwinTreesChannel Thanks. I removed the blue and green wire, but it might not connect. I will check the grey mirror connection. I have not put the door back together, so the window switch is disconnected. Does that make a difference?
Question: 2003 Sequoia LTD...Thank you!!! If I choose to disable before replacing the gear, is there a single fuse I can remove, in the interim? Thank you in advance
The easiest way is to just unplug it at the connector behind the triangle tweeter panel. As you can see in the video you can also unplug the blue and green wires going to the motor. This will allow the mirror positioning to keep working.
My driver side mirror has all the symptoms listed but its the plastic vertical worm gear that's broken, not the round gear. I plan on replacing the round gear too just for good measure but keep running into dead ends trying to find the worm gear. Any suggestions or ideas?
There's some gear kits available on Ebay for both Gen 1 and Gen 2. www.ebay.com/itm/204103801854?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=IUqhQx04TQe&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
@@TwinTreesChannel Thank you! I saw those on Ebay and have it saved. I was hoping to find just the worm gear since I already have the round one, but it looks like I'll just have to buy the whole set.
Yes! When the gear breaks the motor will run constantly. I don’t know of anything besides a broken gear that will cause the motor to run like this. The only ways to stop the motor are unplug it or replace the gear. The video shows how to unplug just the fold motor so you can keep your other mirror functions. If you unplug the whole mirror then both of your mirrors will stop working.
@@TwinTreesChannel Thank you! Actually, to stop the motor from running there is one pin behind the wiring harness you can unplug at the switch side in the center console. This will disable the motor folding option but keep all power functions for both mirrors working. Found that video here on YT as well. Now that I’ve found video I can replace the root of the problem and get them to power fold again!
Does ANYONE know where to get the correct mirror with the correct plug for our trucks? I see this one has the correct larger plug. Every mirror I find has the small plug and it does not work. I have looked high and low for new power folding mirror. The dipshit PO changed the mirror and out it on there and threw the original away.
I've never seen an aftermarket mirror with these options. Every combination of options has a different connector so only the exact mirror will fit. They come up on ebay every once in a while but they may have a broken gear and if not it will probably be old and brittle and will break with use. You can get them from the dealership but they are hundreds of dollars and you have to paint them.
Thank you for the "how to". Everything was going perfectly up until the installation of the mirror. You should expand on that a bit, specifically just how incredibly difficult it is. At which point. The mirror shattered.
So the little tiny green gear is listed for $39 on that website!!! Really??? You can buy an aftermarket whole mirror assembly for 60 bucks on ebay, makes no sense at all. The video is good on information how to do the repair yourself, but the suggested website for the replacement quarter size gear that is plastic is outrageous.
Thanks! The link to the gear is included because that's what we used for the fix. I can say it seems to be of high quality and is said to be made with stronger plastic than the original. There are of course other options. There are entire gear sets on ebay for about the same price. However, I suspect in some cases they are salvaged and thus prone to breaking. Like you said the entire mirror can be found on ebay. There are many options for these mirrors and they all have a different connector. The $60 dollar options are typically not power folding. It's actually rather hard to find power tilt heated power folding mirrors. It took me about a year to find one and I paid $121 for it in 2021. Currently there is one for $189. Another option is the dealership. They quoted me $623 back in 2020. You also have to paint the ebay and dealership mirrors. If anyone finds a better option please post.
I will just pay 40 more dollars for a pair of new mirrors instead of all this. I am not very good at working on cars though hahaha nor do I have the tools and time to do so

Ordered your gear and followed your video for the repair. Mirror has worked perfectly for months now. Thanks a lot!

Do you have to reapply sticky heat compound when installing?
In the ones I've done there is plenty of grease in the gear box to coat the new gear.
Mine have been unplugged for a year now. I really need to do this repair . Just seeks like a lot of small fidly bits to be lost or broken😅
Can you send the link to the gears.....the one you posted does not work

Any idea why this problem would be draining the battery? The vehicle is off and doesnt make any sound.
Have a link for the gears?

My mirror got bumped and now extends beyond 90o. It does retract though. Is their a limiting stop that is broken?
where can I get the briken gears? 😅
