Been playing with my valve body for years with those codes. Took my 4L65 for a rebuild; got about 20K before it started coding again. Decided to run the trans to the ground with the high line pressure default. God about 50K more driving with kick in the pants shift before the sun shell exploded. Took it back to the same mech. Code came up after 40 K. It's obviously the bushing that they know nothing about. They just didnt' know what they were doing. Should have known when I walked into the "messy,, parts everywhere" shop.
Thanks Gary ! Really appreciate the time you used to show us how to check the bushing with before and after shots. I wanna rebuild my dodge 46RE but most of the rebuild kits I saw on eBay came with a good deal of stuff, but no bushings ! Thanks to your advise about replacing bushings on a rebuild, I'm going to buy a kit with bushings. Thanks again.
Ricardo, The overhaul kits do not come with bushings, they are sold seperatly or in a bushing kit. The bushing to change would be the pump bushing and the direct drum bushing, pay close attention to the bushings in the overdrive section(tail housing) if they are good you can leave them. Also, on the 46RE change the overdrive/direct snap ring, they like to break(in order to change this you need a press to take the weight off the snap ring, a very heavy spring keeps tension on the snap ring. Gary
+Gary Ferraro 10-4 sir. I am looking into a 20 ton press right now to get that spring compressed. Thank you very much Gary. I'll keep up with your channel. You are very clear and informative.
I use HP Tuner to raise the lock-up speed to 50 mph in my 04 Trailblazer. 35 mph lock-up in overdrive made me sick. I still don't like the bump when it unlock going up hills on the hwy. I programed it to unlock at light throttle but it's still raw.
Hello Gary, like others, I am now experiencing a P0894 code with check engine light. Just had the transmission rebuilt. Put 100 miles on it, and then the code appeared. Truck currently back in the shop. Won’t really know what the cause is until total disassembly again....very frustrating...just praying it isn’t too serious....
Gary Ferraro Understood it can be various things, originally had the transmission rebuilt due to intermittent slipping between 1st and 2nd gear. After getting the truck back, all seemed well for the first 100 miles, once the code was set, was told there’s now more pressure creating an even harsher 1st-2nd shift?
Chances are the shift is harder because of the code, it elevates line pressure. The computer raises line pressure to try to save the trans from damage,
Hey I have a 2005 Chevy suburban reading code p0894. Check engine light is on. I hear NOTHING knocking or any strange noises when driving on the road. Help!
You may not hear any noises. Problem is the converter is slipping(only couple hundred rpm) you may not feel this but the computer can see this. Number of things that can cause this like worn bushing in the pump ,worn valvebody bore or even converter itself
Gary Ferraro that’s what I was thinking. The converter might be bent a little. I don’t think it’s anything major because nothing is knocking and it drives fine
@@Jon-yl4xr I have a video on a 4L60E valvebody tip. It basically shows how to fix the code you have, sometimes it works and sometimes it does not work depending on what is causing the converter to slip. You could try that valvebody fix to see if it works, if not trans may have to come out

If you have taken the transmission out and removed the torque converter, pump and stator out, what would be the point of not just rebuilding the transmission at this point? I mean how much is the customer really saving by not putting in new frictions, bands and a few valve body pistons and springs? I have this code on the wifes 03 Silverado 1500 and am wondering what I should do first. The code came on 450 miles from home in the middle of the night so we had no choice but to continue driving it as well as back and forth to work for the last few weeks. I imagine that the torque converter is toast at this point and a full rebuild is in order? I have rebuilt this same tranny before in our 99 tahoe so a full rebuild isnt reall a big deal but I dont much like throwing money. Mileage has dropped from 15.7 to 13 since the code popped up but it seems to drive fine otherwise (minus the very firm 1-2&2-3 shifts). Thanks in advance for your advice.
First thing you could try is dropping the valvebody and blocking the valves. I have a video on this, i think it's called 4L60E quick tip, this will turn the PWM into an On/Off lock up system. If that doesn't work then the trans will have to come out

Hello Gary, I have 2007 Mercedes s550 with 170k miles on it. I had the transmission serviced 20k miles ago when I bought the car. Needless to say the other day I was driving and noticed when I pressed the gas pedal the car shuttered and didn’t go anywhere. At that point I noticed the check engine light come on. I pulled over to the side of the road and scanned the car. I got the 2 codes of p0730 & P0894. I cleared them and then started driving and had no issues. After couple of days the car started having the same issue and the same codes came up. What’s odd is it doesn’t do it all the time. What’s your thoughts?
The worn bushing just happens from normal driving driving conditions, as a result you will lose your converter charge oil causing the converter to slip when commanded on for lock-up. Lock-up means the converter locks to engine rotation, it does this to keep the heat facture down, when the converter slips a large amount of heat is generated which is bad for your trans. Gary
Trans was rebuilt less then 200 miles ago all new bushings frictions and steels. Also new sonnax tcc valve. I reused all the solenoids . The Trans shifts perfect except it has no converter lockup.
Hi Sir Gary. I got a P0894 code and a check engine light with my 4l60e after the rebuild. All gears are working fine. But everytime when engine is hot, the 4th gear is getting lost, and the 1st gear shifts very hard to 2nd gear. I have to pull over my car for 30mins to let the engine cool down so that the 1st, 2nd & 4th gears will work fine again... There was an instance 4th gear was missing, the mechanic attached his scanner while the car was running. He tried to control it manually from the scanner to let the 4th gear work. It did worked. But when detached from the scanner, 4th gear missing again. What do you think is the problem? Is it on the torque converter or the bushing from the pump or the valve body?
Could all be related, did you have this problem before? the hard 1-2 shift is because high pressure, could be loosing 4th because trans could be getting too hot, do you have access to a scanner that shows live data
Sir Gary thank you for the immediate reply... Before, everything was fine except for the 4th gear was sliding, having a very little grinding noise when i step on the gas pedal. When we opened it, the 4th gear clutches were worn out.. After the rebuild, that was the time i got the P0894 code and the check engine light.. Sorry i don't have the access to a scanner. It was the mechanic who did the scan attached to the car while i was driving for a road test... Sir Gary if the problem is in the valve body, what part of it will we check into? It took almost 2months now. Until now my car is in the garrage still.
Ok, how did the Band look, that is actually 4th gear on the trans, the clutch you probably changed was the 3-4 clutch(which does go bad alot). If your having a problem in 4th only, you may have a problem with the band. The reason why i asked about the live data on the scanner is to see if there is excessive slip on the torque converter clutch, if not then the band may be your problem. The definition of code P0894 is"transmission component slipping" most of the time its TCC related but could also be for a slip in 4th as well
Sir i remember the Band was in good shape, no scratches, its color was black. I just spoke to the mechanic, he said he already replaced it with the new one i bought.. I purchased a rebuild kit except for the torque converter. Could it be possible that problem would be the torque converter? But before the rebuild i didn't experience any slipping.
