This just proves that the way an instrument sounds depends on the player not so much the instrument. Put me on that same keyboard with those same sounds and it would not sound that good. Mike is a genius musician
There's no padding/waste in his playing ... he makes such evocative voicing choices ... almost Ennio Morricone like with the lush strings sounds. It's not flashy BUT so moving. Loved it! Oh yeah! Great keyboard!
I am fascinated by the way you play the yamaha, everything you have done is very nice, and there is no doubt that the yamaha montage has the best acoustic guitars on a keyboard.
Incredible playing! This channel is where I come to when I really want to see what gear is capable of in terms of real music making and production and live playing and not just twisting one knob with an arp going or snobbishly talking about every feature something doesn't have. Thanks for keeping it about the end game - Making Great Music!
This gentleman and his incredible emotion in his playing is the reason why I now own this keyboard. I love the sounds that I'm hearing but I am encountering power being lost during inactive playing times of like 20-30 mins. I play for a church and when I return to play after the sermon my Montage is without power. I have to reboot and call up my home patch setup which really affects the service flow. Is anyone who owns this keyboard experiencing the same thing with theirs of could I have just bought a keyboard that may have possibly been dropped or so in the shipping and delivery? Thanks in advance.
Hey Nelson, thank you for your kind words man! There’s a setting in the utility settings on the montage called power saving that is normally on by default. It means that after a certain amount of time, the keyboard will automatically turn itself off after being idle for a while. I could be completely wrong but, have a browse through your montage utility settings and you might find that this ‘power save/auto off’ needs to be switched off.
Mike should compose and perform movie / TV soundtracks. I get so tired of these armchair composers playing arpeggiated circle of 5ths chords and calling it a day. Mike employs sonorous, complex, and elegant chord progressions and has a good ear for orchestral instrumentation and performance. John Williams would be impressed. And yes I hear Rey's theme - subtle, but it's in there!
I'm not the target demographic for ROMplers but the piano was nice - none of those nasty artifacts that shout "electronic piano". Star of the show though was the acoustic guitar - a very usable sound.
Great playing mahnn.. Nice tones too. Its not plastic. there is a warmth to it. Are there any additional processing given to the tones? Or just plain recording from the audio interface?
Thanks for tuning in... We're glad you enjoyed the video! All the audio is captured straight from the instrument running into our Universal Audio interface. We then bounce the file down in Logic Pro X ready for video editing. No extra processing needed, hope that helps. :)
I want to get into demos like this too! When you record this do you do a direct capture from the synth or is it just recorded through your camera's microphone? Thanks for the great content as always!
i'm a pro classical guitar player,i have played it for 7 years and yes i tried alot to make music out of the instrument but piano instrument is much better for composing music.
Great playing and instrument, but the way the big dial blinks all the time keeps catching my eye in a rather irritating way. I would want to turn that off, or at least keep the light steady.
i have the same hands -- too large and hard to full pinky using technique, but some time it has it's time to press a key or may be two )) classic teachers of course ban this style of playing but... who mind it in soul and RNB styles? nobody ))
In music, technique only helps you get to your goal more efficiently and some times can help avoid injury in the long run. In every instrument there are masters that stray from doctrine and still manage to produce sounds and feelings that go beyond what any “proper technique” could offer. To think any other way makes you look like an elitist who can’t appreciate the art for what it is. Imagine critiquing a painter on how he grips his brush and not what he puts on the canvas. You can’t sit there and tell me that musicians were terrible before the “proper” guidelines were laid out years, decades, and centuries later, right? ;)

I shook my head in laughter and disbelief when he played the strings.....What sorcery is this??? Bloody hell...
Literally one of the most talented musicians demoing a product I've ever heard.
Absolutely.
This instrument is so beautiful in all aspects. To the ear, touch and eye
It much depends who is playing. These days most young people not willing to learn play keaboard it is a hard instrument

Mike Patrick is mind blowing!
Thanks for bringing him back, "Simply Marvelous" 😎
One of the best keyboardist alive! Mike Patrick ♥️
Those strings made my day
That man has mesmerising fingers... love it
It was a pleasure to have Mike down for these videos. What an incredible musician!
Wow..I could listen to him for hours..beautiful
It's amazing how Mike can play so well with the fourth finger of his right hand, without the fifth finger, pure talent!!
Agreed. You have to see it to believe it... Truly awesome!
Just noticed that, the pinky is just following the other finger, hard to tell if you're not looking for it, that's crazy! 👍
that ending. dude is boss.
Couldn't of put it better ourselves!
I am fascinated by the way you play the yamaha, everything you have done is very nice, and there is no doubt that the yamaha montage has the best acoustic guitars on a keyboard.
The guitars on the Genos are much better than the montage, as they have more articulation sounds.
This was absolutely awesome. His touch and use of intervals and inner movements is next level.
Finally a good sound review of this instrument. This dude is a solid player.
Did nobody else notice the Star Wars theme at 1:47?
I did! Beautiful!!
That guy plays with so much emotion!!!
My Dreams, playing like you, ty so much😊
Love Mike on Montage!
We've asked for it and Andertons Synths, Keys and Tech answered... forever a fan 👌🏾
We need more 'playing only' by Mike
Wait, I think I heard Cory Henry's "Heart at Midnight" during the playing of Patch #3, R&B Soft
Best string player I’ve seen in a while
I’ve been undecided about buying the MODX8 for some time.. I think this guy has just prompted me to pull the trigger! Damn you Andertons!

He’s just incredible
Heavenly
That is just awesome . I was not really into the montage but you have shown what it’s really capable of . Just an awesome demo.
Haven’t even watched it yet and I’m excited 😆
Sounds great at every level.
Thanks Mike.
It's been a pleasure to have Mike down with us! Thanks for tuning in.
Great Demo Mike. Superb sounds.
Thanks for tuning in! We're glad you enjoyed it.
Sempre yamaha montage 🎵🎶🎹brasil
Such talent !! Does make me realise though that a Montage would be wasted on me !!!
More of Mike! Spectacular playing! The keyboard isn´t too bad either..!

I can't wait for the Rhodes comparison video with Jack, Mike and D Bingerz. 🙃

Beautiful playing. Fantastic keyboard.
Beautiful playing and great sounding board
This guy’s playing is so beautiful and I do love my montage

Fantastic thanks 👍 Sir
Got to love Yamaha keyboards. Very nice indeed.
Sounds huge.
That Montage sounds almost as good as my modx6 :)
I don’t even know how to play but I almost bought a keyboard so I could imagine being this good
I heard a little bit of Star Wars in there... Something from the prequels... Nice.
Would love to see Mike play something like the new prophet 5👀👀👀👀
Delicious!!
Cool video👍🏽

He got the bomb fingers haha
Wow.... What sort of training did you receive on the piano? I love your style of playing!

1.48 across The stars? 🥹🫠 tasteful
A dancing finger!
Would love to hear him play the roland synth as well
The patch 2...👀

mike is the shit.

god, they resolve well
I’m trying to decide whether to buy a Montage or an Arturia Polybrute…
I hope Yamaha make a sort of Montage V2 with direct sampling ability and 1024 notes of polyphony!!
(for £999)
Hello, what is the name of patch #2 ?
Thanks
SQUIB!!! Squib squi squi squi squib!! Lol @3:33
What's the name of the patch #2?
Hey is it the same sound as a Yamaha Genos this is amw2 but Geno's sounds dim amw1 if you can tell the differecne
I want to get into demos like this too! When you record this do you do a direct capture from the synth or is it just recorded through your camera's microphone? Thanks for the great content as always!
Thanks for watching mate. Keyboard is going straight into an Apollo 8p by Universal Audio. Simples, no eq or extra bits Sir X
That guitar sounds, killer ....
Imagine resample Keyscape C7 Grand Piano into Montage via Sample Robot
Think someone needs to make that happen... 😉
@@AndertonsKeyboardDept How do I download Montage Sample Robot? The web page seems to have been removed.
@@Maxxarcade Contact Yamaha, they should let you know.
Can anyone make a transcription of what Mike is playing through the CFX Grand portion lol I really want to learn it!
What's he playing in the first bit? Or was that all improv?
Its Amazing!!! Whats is the name of te patch 2?
Does this have same voices as Geno's or it's different altogether
Did anybody come across the "masterclass" guitar ad 😩😩
This guy making me want to quit guitar and play piano for the rest of my life
Join the club... A lot of our staff have said the same thing! 😉
i'm a pro classical guitar player,i have played it for 7 years and yes i tried alot to make music out of the instrument but piano instrument is much better for composing music.

it can be turned off.
Does anyone know the name of patch #2?
Whats the song he's playing in Patch #4? Anyone???
I would love to know aswell
Did u tweet the sound are those factory presets?. and Yes I would love to resample some sounds into my montage 8...is it possible
Those are all factory presets with some modifications, but you have the sounds if you have a Montage.
This bloke never uses his right hand pinky...still the performance is beyond amazing. Wow...
My right hand pinky is crooked but I still use it. Maybe I shouldn't 😂
Aha, I was wondering why is grip looked different.
i have the same hands -- too large and hard to full pinky using technique, but some time it has it's time to press a key or may be two )) classic teachers of course ban this style of playing but... who mind it in soul and RNB styles? nobody ))

My CFX grand doesn't sound that good! most of the time I end up using the Imperial Grand
It's all sbout how you play and for this demo they probably ran the montage through a compressor
A little help with the strings voice please
