Thank-you for explaining the difference between stretch needles and ballpoint needles. That was such a useful tip xx💖
Yes indeed, it is very helpfull❣
Yes, that was very helpful to me as well. I thought I needed a stretch needle. I’m ready to purchase jersey needles, ball point pins, and a clapper. Thank you so much for this video. So many good tips. I have avoided knits because of the aggravation. Now I know how to remedy some of the problems. Good video: well-produced, efficient with time, and jam packed with do’s and don’t’s.
Abi - thank you so much for making a tutorial on sewing knits without a serger, or a walking foot!! That moment when you showed us the walking foot… and then said you are going to sew without it anyway! You are one in a million. Every single tutorial I’ve seen either says ”use a serger! It’ll make everything better!” Or ”nevermind a serger, but you do need a walking foot”. I’m working with a vintage machine from the mid 1970’s. It’s a great machine, but no one makes a walking foot for it. As I can’t afford a serger, I’ve been feeling very discouraged about starting my projects with knits fabrics. Now I can’t wait to start. Thank you so much for these tips!
Thank you so much x I grew up sewing knits on a sewing machine without a walking foot (or serger) . Neither had I heard of before my 30’s. Never had popping stitches. So it’s exciting to share this with you. Good luck and have lots of fun x
I totally agree with you- one in a million!
Good to know that it wasn’t me being a lousy on the machine as a beginner.
I can’t believe you showed me what I was doing wrong! Thank you!
Extremely helpful video, thank you Abi for being such an awesome teacher.
Ding Ding Ding! All my questions answered in one clear concise video! I seriously appreciate the time you took to make this!
Amazing!
Thank you for this tutorial! And thank you for also showing mistakes❤️
Wow, some really good tips there. I of course bought stretch needles before seeing this video for an upcoming project, but at least I saw this before actually using them. I'll get some ballpoint needles. Thanks!
Thank you, Abi, you're an awesome teacher, so slow and clear for a newbie. Stitching a dress first time with 4-way stretch fabric!
Amazing. Hope it goes well x
I didn’t know about a walking foot. It’s just what I need! Thank you for this video
🏴☠️ brilliant
Cute! I’ve had the machine eat the fabric before-great tip how to avoid that!!!
I'm just about to start a project that requires all stretch fabric (first time working with stretch fabric) and your video's have been so easy to follow and the tips and tricks are explained so well, most informative sewing videos Ive watched and Ive watched a lot. Thank you so much
Thank you this was by far one of the best explanations of sewing with this type of fabric!
Thank you for simply and calmly explaining stretch techniques! I am so intimidated by stretch sewing anything! When I asked for pointers at Joann Fabrics or my friends about sewing stretch fabric, everyone cowered and admitted they avoid it as much as possible.
Stretch fabric is the most versatile fabric and really amazing for so many projects. Be the superstar stretch seamstress and amaze everyone. It’s easy when you know how. Have fun!! ☺️
I really appreciate your tutorials , you explain things in a way that is very simple to follow. I am new to sewing and have watched a few of your clips to help me understand what I need to do.
You have a great voice and teaching technique, thank you
Very informative video! I’ve been sewing for about 36 years, and have always struggled with stretchy fabric. I’d get the job done, but it wasn’t always as neat as I wanted.
Your explanations are so clear and easy, Abi. Thanks for another great one.
I just figured out how to sharpen my fabric scissors with a small whet stone! Drop the whet stone into water for one minute then draw the white side at the same angle as the blade(10°) it across the blade for about 3 to 5 minutes then do the same on the coloured side for 2 to 3 minutes........Love your videos Abi
This was super helpful. I figured I needed a twin needle for stretchy fabric but I’ll try the Jersey needle first. Thanks so much for the tutorial.
Thank you thank you!!!!! I have been trying to figure out what I was doing wrong for months. This was the ONLY video that had my exact problem and then you’re solution! Can’t wait to try this. Very easy to follow your instructions and even the different problems you were showing as examples of was my problems EXACTLY!
You're welcome! ☺️
Thank you! I really liked your video and all the tips, the important stuff like what type of needle to use, how the fabric behaves, how to keep it from getting jammed in your machine. Thank you!
I could listen to you talk for days. Beautiful voice and accent! And SUPER helpful and informative tutorial! Mahalo 😉👌
Wow, thank you! You're very kind
Thank you for your video! I clicked because the thumbnail was so charming and funny, but this was really helpful! I feel confident to try my best with my first stretchy jersey project!
Glad it was helpful!
Really helpful. I would never have thought of using my clapper! Now I have put ball point pins on my shopping list. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much! You explained everything very well!!
You're very welcome!
The tips on right needle type is appreciated💝
This was so helpful--thank you!!
Thanks Abi, i love your calm manner and delivery. Also i learnt a lot.
Abi, your videos are priceless.
Thank you sooooo much. This is the best video I've seen that helped me to UNDERSTAND about sewing jerseys.
Thank you for a clear, concise lesson filled with great tips and other information; I now feel confident enough to take on a job using stretch material, something I've been avoiding doing for years :) . Your voice is absolutely beautiful, by the way.
Wonderful!and thank you 🌷🪡☺️✨
I found this really helpful! Thank you 😊 ill also be ordering a magnetic guide.. i didnt even know these were a thing..

Thank you, that was as always, a great, easy to follow instructional video. I have learned so much as a beginner from watching your videos saving me lots of frustration.
Hi Abi, I've recently found your channel and just wanted to say a huge thank you. Your channel is great and you have given me inspiration and confidence to tackle stretch fabrics again. I've only sewn stretch fabric once before, on my sewing machine, and it overstretched at the hem. I've just made myself a lightweight sweatshirt in 2 hours using my overlocker and it's perfect. Thank you very much indeed. X
Thank you for the lovely comment. I’m pleased to hear that you have been able to enjoy your sewing 🪡 well done 👍🏽
Can i use a book instead of a clapper??
Thank you so so so much for this! I have been getting so frustrated with my machine..I felt like I had tried everything. Thank you thank you thank you!
Awww x you are very welcome x
great video as always...I always slide a small piece of tear away stabilizer under the fabric at the beginning & ending of the seam when using stretch fabrics to keep it from getting "eaten" into the needle hole...
Ooh. Howard ! Nice tip 👌🏾
I gotta try that!
Someone gave me a lot of both two way, and four way stretchy fabric. Now I just need to use it! Lol
Ooh sounds like lots of fun!
Thanks! Came here as I wasn't sure whether I needed a stretch needle or ball point.
Brilliant channel !
Aw, thank you x 🌷🪡✨
A wonderful and very helpful video. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
Brilliant thanks
Thank you for so many great tips!
Very helpful, thank you!
Thanks for watching Flutie.
Clear and very helpful. Thanks Abi!
Thank you for sharing your tips.
Abi you are so good with your tips. I really found this useful esp as I'm planning to use stretch fabrics for the first time. Thank you so much
Tysm!!! 😫 I can't tell you how many times the fabric has gotten caught in the machine.
Believe me… I know ✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽🥳 not anymore. More tips in my newest video
Very helpful. Thank you for sharing.
Very helpful, thank you
Thank you Elaine
Great tips. Thanks for sharing.
Very useful tips. Thank you!
Oh wow! Thank you!
Such great information. Thanks!
Thank you so much
Thank you 🙏🏼
Love the tutorial, but it made me think about my double needle. Can you use a double needle and do a stretch stitch setting?
Thank you,as a beginner with knits,i found this so usefull.
Fantastic tips! Very helpful, thank you ❤️💕❤️
You are so welcome!
Thank you
You're welcome
Thank you this is really helpful
Just about to work with this fabric for the first time - l won’t lie, I’m terrified 😂
Thanks for this video!
Thank you, your tips are very helpful. I saw you using the magnetic seam guide which for me was a lightbulb moment ……. ah, so that’s what it’s for ……. I must have inherited one but didn’t know what it was for. Thank you again.
They’re so handy, and with as much experience in sewing, I still find it useful.
I’ve got double brushed poly it is 96 polyester and 4 lycra spandex with four way stretch and I tried both jersey and stretch needles and no matter what I do I get skipped stitches :(
Have you tried using a walking foot? Maybe try a stretch needle in a different size, and the thread you're using may need changing to something finer. x
Another great option if you don't have a walking foot is to put a piece of scotch tape on your presser foot and it will help the material slide through.
most of my questions are answered, however, one question remains - how to sew a sleeve or legging that doesn't fit on the bottom of the sewing machine without stretching it?
Yes, it’s fiddly and needs care but work from the inside, it’s got to be shown really
So much useful information in one place..great job! You just got a new subscriber =)
Love the thumbnail!
Thank..so mucho.....im write from Peru.
You are very welcome
This video was so helpful!!! How do do a backstitch with a walking foot though? Or what do you recommend instead of a backstitch?
You can’t backstitch with a walking foot but I’ll make a video to show how
So what caused your fabric to get stuck when u started to sew?
Great tutorial!!!
Hi which one is better machine singer or necchi mn2000
Thanks! That was useful tips! 👍🌹
Glad it was helpful!
Abby i love you, your amazing , i use industrial machines and i sew stretch or jersey fabrics on my straight stitch but i just stretch as i sew and they dont pop ...... also i use my industrial coverstitch because i hate the look of a zigzag stitch hehe
I like the info you give… the only problem is you don’t let the words stay on the screen as long. A bit of advice… don’t have the words sooo big and put them at the bottom of the screen so the words can stay up a bit longer
Where can I get the ball point needles is it available in amazon
❤❤❤❣
:-) x
I'm confused as to why you needed to cut the seam allowance. And also why you didn't overlock the edge? How do you know when to overlock or finish the edge.
Really helpful
Which needle is best for a stretch like a double brushed poly (also known as double brushed DTY) ?
I finally understand my overlocker thanks to your tutorials! Thank you so much!!
I would use a stretch needle as opposed to a jersey(ballpoint) needle. Good luck!
thank you so much! could you plz tell which sewing machine are you using
You are welcome 😊 this is the Singer, Tradition. £60 ish in Lidl.
Abi my lovely can you help? I’m making Lycra costumes i want them to have some stretch but also some strength and structure. What would you recommend for this? Should i line them and if so what with? Many thanks for all your fabulous tips and tutorials…. I made the little zipped bag and it turned out great xxx
😍
thank you, Ihope it helped :-)
Useful vdo
Thanks
I have the same sewing machine and I never realized that there was a wheel thingy on the top 😂🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️.
❤️🙌🏽😂
you are using Which fabric,? What is the name of fibric
Grazie
If you pull the bobbin and top thread back as you start it doesn’t tangle.
That’s a really good tip to avoid ‘nesting’ sometimes the needle can push the fabric into the needle hole 😵💫
Can you quilt with knit fabrics? Any tips or tricks are appreciated!
Thank you for reminding me that all my problems with sewing arent just a me not knowing how to sew thing (which is defiantly half the reason) 🫠
I always learn so much with your videos. I wonder if we need special needles for this jersey with the overlocker? I bought the one from LIDL but don't have other needles than the one it came with. is it standard size? thank you.
I would use a ballpoint (also know as jersey) needles in the overlocker. Go for a size 80 (12) 😊🙌🏽
@@AbisDen thank you very much.
hello i am new to sewing and i want to sew polyester pocket on a 100% cotton t shirt can you tell me what needle to choose :(
Cok guzel
Extremely needed video after my sewing day yesterday!
The real question is: if I’m going to be doing a good amount of knit fabrics (I have a toddler), should I also just grab a serger?
I would. I’m interested. Have you?
@@AbisDen I did! It has definitely been a game changer, though I’m now a bit better controlling knit fabrics on my regular sewing machine too! Both are so useful!
❤️
what are those scissors called? They'd make my life so much easier! also- thank you so much for showing the mistakes. i've gotten my fabric trapped literally hundreds of times over the years. so much better just to start an inch or two off the edge and backstitch!
You click the description for the link 😊
Why does my machine not work on thick fabric like stretchable fabric and works great on very thin fabric?
Thanks for the video, after watching your video I just made my first dress using jersey material, all went well until I tried a top stitch using the twin needle for the hem. I did a test but the material keeps tunnelling I’ve used the twin needle that came with my Aldi Necchi machine also tried a twin Schmez ballpoint needle and various tension settings but no joy. Have you any tips to help please.
If you put some iron-on hem 'stuff' (can't remember proper name) on the edge, then fold over to same depth, and sew. Just gives it a bit more body to stay flat and you can feel the edge from the top side to stay at the right level.
