I have had the RP255, then the RP355 and finally I Just got this pedal used and I am really enjoying it..way more control. Just wanted to add something in regards to the user guide. I think the manual misses a very elementary information about how to switch between banks..to an absurd level..so when you're on PRESET mode, you basically need to do a two stage operation In order to switch between banks: press up or down switch to the desired bank, and IMMEDIATELY press any footswitch 1 to 5..if you don't do the latter, the RP500 will not switch banks..and the switches will blink for a second or two and stay in the previous bank.I know..kinda stupid, but it's NOT on the manual. also, Could be REALLY nice if the pedal would have a foot switch in order to switch between pedal/preset mode. Just my 2 cents;)
I've been using the RP500 for about 11 years. It took a very long time to get it dialed in to get it to sound good and EQ out the flub and nasal tone. However it is now old tech. Has anyone compared this to the Boss GX-100? I would presume the modeling would sound even better with the GX.
can you make some youtube videos on making some patches which sound like petrucci slash vai ..etc....i have bought the processor and want that kind of sound from it.....please help...
Can someone please tell me where the volume button is for this Processor? Everything else is easy to find but finding the Processor vol on this one is more difficult than it should be...
It was a long time ago that I had one, but I think there was a master volume knob on the back. It was very small a I remember. If I'm wrong though, just google "Digitech RP500 PDF" and the manual will appear.
That's the spirit! It's sad how infrequently you hear guitar players say the word 'fun' and instead bog themselves down with the word 'tone'. Thanks for watching Gearfacts :)
I like making noise and vintage pedals. The RP-500 does both of these in a great format without having to find every old and expensive pedal. If you're not having fun while you're making music you're not doing it right.
Compared to modern Boss and Line 6 amp models are a bit artificial sounding. Personally I feel if you have couple decent amps you are good. That being said RP series still offers great value for the money
Because of this video I now own a used RP500! I've watched this vid multiple time and finally starting to understand how it and effects work. I never had an amp or pedals before. Do you have a vid for dummies LOL?
I don't think I've ever done a digitech tutorial sorry! There were one or two features that I never fully understood or mastered, but overall it's fairly easy to use I think :) #gearfacts
@@gearfacts One more question. I bought used and did not come with any software. Do I need it (It's editing software correct?)? I went to website and tried downloading what I thought was it but I do not see any exc file anywhere. Do I need this to download the tones on their website? I couldn't find the RP500 forum page either. Thx
Hmm not sure, I didn't ever connect it to my PC. I suspect Digitech might have a generic program that communicates with the RP500 as a patch librarian. As for recording though, you should be able to just store Audacity (free), plug in with USB and the RP500 will appear as an input option.
Gearfacts so it sounds better? I’m looking for decent effects with ease of use while gigging. Also, you need like a donation site or link. Thanks for the tips. I have the digitech rp500 haven’t really messed around with it. But someone wants to trade me the line 5 pod xt love.
+surfdigby Great question - It's very subjective. They really do sound very different. The RP500 has undeniable accuracy if you want to reproduce a particular sound. The G7 isn't an imitator though, it wills you to achieve your own sound. That's why I prefer the G7. But to say it's "better" would be an over-simplification. Hope that helps!
The switches can be used to change patches or toggle on/off effects. So in pedal board mode, the Distortion button 2 will turn off/on distortion and everything else remains the same. Reverb, fx, compressor, delay also. The wah can be used in any patch, press toe down all the way on the expression pedal and it's a wah on/off button. Every patch you can set a whole different setup of amps, pedals etc..
Federico AT tough choice! If you are a conservative player who likes to practice and perform classic songs, then I'd go for the rp500. If you are innovative and looking for new ideas and a unique sound then go for the G3. Focus on the ENJOYMNENT you'll get from a pedal, not just on its specifications. Good luck and thanks for watching Gearfacts!
I bought a G3x a little over a year ago. I loved it. Note the word "Loved" The right screen went just after a year (& warranty) so I'm down to two screens instead of 3. It still works I just don't know which pedal I have called up in the right window. After doing a search on the net I found it happens more often that you'd think. That said I was able to dial in some of my fairly expensive "NAME BRAND" pedals & absolutely nail them with the Zoom. I could not however copy my TC Spark Boost or my Hyper Gravity compressor. I attribute it to weak power supply that would go out off & on. Not sure but I think it just had a bit of a surge & wham!
Very different pedals. The ME80 is more rowdy and less predictable so for me, it's the winner as I like things that way. But if you want precision then the RP500 might serve you better. Totally different personalities: The RP is a scalpel, the ME is a broadsword. Hope that helps and thanks for watching Gearfacts :)
Well I have bought it now and I have to say I am a very satisfied customer.Give yourself a pat on the back. I play acoustic and electric, I dont want lots of different pedals but an all in one system and this pedal enables me to create the exact sound that I want with the nuances I need to create a tasteful sound. I have already created 10 of my own presets and I am no technical wizard. Very easy to use, thanks for the demo and keep strumming.
Oh dear, this sounds horrible! Muffled fuzzy tones coming out of a drainpipe. Glad I didn't rush out and buy one so thanks for saving me some of my hard earned cash.

Yep, as stated repeatedly in the thread, this is a very early demo of mine and it's not a great illustration of what the RP500 sounds like. We both agree that it sounds good, though :) Gearfacts
really helpful, that post and pre drive makes all the difference.
thanks for putting this vid up.

Loved my 355 but finally kicked the bucket after 10 years haha, considering upgrading i love digitech
Idk what people expect from audio recorded on a camera. I'm still in the first couple mins.
Just picked this up and I'm eager to learn about it!

I've never tried a GX but yep the whole digital effects / multi-fx paradigm has improved since the release of this pedal.
This thing isn't as bad as people say it is, thanks for showing the light of it.
Thanks Thomas, I just need to do a better recording next time... my vids have come a long way since then :) Gearfacts
Thanks for the review! Nice job!

Great pedal
Does anyone know how to get to the effects starting on pg 19 of the manual. specifically the Auto Ya, Ya-Ya and Synthtalk? Thx
Does anyone know how to change/set the kind of effect you want on each of the parameters in pedalboard mode? Say that the kind of distortion. Thanks.
really helpful! great video!

Thanks for the video, got one on it's way. Any important information I should be aware of?
Not really. It's about as simple as they come :) Thanks for watching Gearfacts!
Wow, what shit comments! Great demo, thank you!
Can you use this for a 90s grunge/alt rocks setting? And combine effects for any one preset?
Absolutely. And yes you can combine effects.

How do you switch off the automatic switch to wah when then expression is engaged fully?
You turn off the wah by pressing the expression pedal all the way toe down, it triggers a wah on/off switch that you can use in any patch.
Que precio tiene ésa pedalera
Alguien me puede ayudar con el precio real de una pedalera digitech pr 500.
Bonjour est ce quelqu'un a le réglage de santana pour Europa merci d avance
I see you did a demo on a line 6 pod xt live. Which one would you say is better this digitech rp500 or the line 6?
Line 6. Not as much variety, but a lot more punch :) #gearfacts

I'm using it for like almost a year still i don't know how to trigger the loop pedal. pls help meee.....:)
This pedal has a looper?
Hold down up bank button, down button to arm looper, up to stop and play, down button to over dub, hold up down to clear loop, or exit looper
can you assign different custom effects to the front five footswitches?
The switches can be used to change patches or toggle on/off effects. So in pedal board mode, the Distortion button 2 will turn off/on distortion and everything else remains the same. does it have latency when switching between effects?
It's like 1 millisecond I think.
@@gearfacts is it noticeable for you?
Nope :)@@Daniel-zo9hz
To be honest the pedal sounds much better than this video.
Decent demo but you need to do it more justice with a better Amp.
This pedal is amazing
