Not to mention I believe the Futura offers a lot more when it comes to cutting a variety of keys. I've had my eye set on getting one of these Futura machines. These videos are helping a lot on making my decision. #lockboss

Just wanted two add my .02 here regarding "trust" and "ease of use". Sometimes the "ease of use" leads to complacency. Where I work, our facilities have a very large system with restricted keywsys and we contract out the key cutting. In one building where we have a "override" key for doors with Prox readers, we requested 20 override keys for security and facilities personal in the event we needed to access a space where Prox has failed. The company we contracted for cutting the keys has a digital cutter. We provided the blanks and the bitting. All 20 keys were not cut correctly and had to be redone. I am not sure which digital machine they used, or if it was a new person using the machine, but it was a mistake that cost us time and money.

I learned my lesson on contracting out key cutting. Always provide sample pinned test cylinder(s).

I wonder if anyone has ever converted one of these manual machines to CNC? Stepper motors are cheap enough and can easily be controlled with an Arduino. I suppose the software would be the tricky part, but I think definitely doable.

Never cared for the two HPC card machines I got talked into. Not as accurate and in my opinion the quality on HPC is off, I have one that cuts the key deeper at one end of the blade so the precision of even that is insulting. Problems with truck mounted machines with HPC where the alignment arms fall off calibration due to traffic vibration, pot holes and temperature variations. Framon kicks the HPC to the gutter where it belongs. Junk. Framon is track driven, not pivot based so depth accuracy is perfect depth every time. Never got to use the Silva, but looking forward to trying it someday at a show or rep area event.
