    This is so awesome! Thank you! Not only meter changes, it also transfers tempo changes from the Finale midi file to Garageband. Huge help. Thanks.

    In England, smiling and with enormous gratitude, we call someone like you "a clever bastard."

    This video is a life saver. I was getting so frustrated with free DAWs having limited functionality, but this helps tremendously!

    This is great! I'm going to have to try it and see if the automated drummer will successfully follow it.

    Really really thanks for that! I tried noteflight and (more or less) it works fine. Finally I can write my old compositions into GarageBand. I love you!

    Awesome. Clearly explained and works like a dream (at least with Finale as demoed). Thanks!

    Thanks - confirmed this also works when exporting out of guitar pro software. Very handy!
    Somebody asked in the comment about other DAWs - most of them allow you to change time signature like you can tempo and key... just not garageband :)

    Thanks for that. That's a great help. I was able to use MuseScore to rough out the meter changes and then export it to Garageband.

    Yessss,
    Thanks a lot.
    I have 2 more questions. It also works in garageband for Ipad_
    And the second cake. Can this map be prepared in the program Symphonypro 6?
    Thanks
    George

    Brilliant that's deadly thanks, I want to play in an arrangement in 5/4, this looks like it will work really well. I wonder would the same idea work in other DAWs such as reaper, audacity etc...

    And how can we eliminate it?

    I always enjoy watching your videos! I used to play piano and flute from grade 7-9 but unfortunately quit after. I then went to college to study business and history. But all of these years I thought about majoring in music because I loved it so much. The only issue is that I'm now 24, I haven't played music in years, and I am probably only at a grade 2 or 3 level. Is it too late for me to enroll in a music degree?

      Thanks for the kind words :) I appreciate your situation...that's a tough question. The older you get (and you're not really all that old yet!) the more careful you need to be about investing time/money. Here are two videos I made that offer suggestions about majoring in music. I know your situation is a little different than the intended audiences for each of these vids, but I think you'll find some good take-aways just the same:

      Hope these help. Best wishes making the decisions ahead for you!

    Not having Finale or any other similar app at the moment, may I ask: Once you have imported the Midi file and it has changed the meter, will the garageband DRUMMER follow the changes? Have you tried that? Does it work? If so, I need to get Finale or similar (if less costly than Logic) because I thought the only way of doing this would be to upgrade to Logic.

      I've had uneven success with GarageBand's drummer following meter change intelligently. For instance, say I have a project that has a couple measures of 4/4, then 1 measure of 2/4, then the same thing over and over again. I set up a Drummer region for the 4/4 measures, then another (very short) Drummer region for the 2/4 measure. Sometimes the Drummer does an intuitive job extending the phrase by that 2/4 measure. But sometimes it is awkward. In those cases, I create a new software instrument and MIDI record my own drum parts for that 2/4 measure.

    I tried this exporting a standard midi file from Musescore and it didn't work. Any thoughts? Thanks

      I don’t use MuseScore, so I’m unsure. Maybe someone watching here can help w/your question.

    I tried this with note flight but you can only export it to a PDF and if you save it to the desktop it won't load in Garage Band. Anyone can help me out with this? Thank you!

    • @ScottWatsonMusic
      @ScottWatsonMusic  3 года назад

      I can export Noteflight files as MIDI files. Not sure why you cannot. I do have the pay version, but when I used to only have the free Noteflight, MIDI file export was a feature then. But you are right, you can't import a PDF into GarageBand!

    Hello Dr. Scott! After punching in the desired time signature changes in to the finale document, how do you save it as a "tempo map"? I see your file has the little lock icons at the end of each line and mine doesn't. Did I miss a step before beginning the export?

    • @ScottWatsonMusic
      @ScottWatsonMusic  3 года назад

      The lock icons having nothing to do with the tempo thing. As for the "tempo map," when you choose File --> Export --> MIDI File, a window pops up and a choice you can click on is "tempo map" - choose that :)
