- Talk about a throwback...it's the first episode of Horsepower TV ever! Chuck and Joe bolt on a few extra horsepower to Project Pony Car. After installing a nitrous kit, they take it to the track to test it out. Then, they use an old '39 Buick chassis to demonstrate how to bring a street rod into the '90s with a front end kit. Later, it's down to Orlando for the world's ultimate street car shootout - the Real World Street Nationals.
RIP Mr. Elmore.
Thank you for the years of automotive videos and memories growing up watching with my Dad.
Rip Joe. Thank you for some really cool Saturday mornings and simple plain talk . You gave inspiration to thousands of men and women.to open a hood and grab some tools . I hope he’s making power in peace 😢❤
I wouldn't mind binge watching a lot of these old Hot Rod TV/Horsepower TV episodes in full. Good nostalgia.
I remember watching this episode when I was in junior high
This was the first of “Horsepower TV” series, but the same show called “Hot Rod TV” with Joe and Chuck as hosts was the real start to this series.
When Chuck left, the show really went downhill.
@@CarsandCats I can understand why he left. His young son was tragically killed and he wanted to spend more time with his family. This was also a side gig for him as he ran ACES for many years.
I miss seeing all his cool Chevelles and other Chevrolets on the show. Cool guy!
Thanks for keeping these TNN motorsports (which originally aired this and other car shows I watched in middle and high school) shows memories alive here on RUclips. I really miss this, My Classic Car, Road Test Magazine, Motor Trend Television(not to be confused with the Discovery run TV network), Car and Driver, Trucks!,
While I was more of a trucks fan back in the day, its nice to see these old Horsepower episodes especially the ones that don't show up on the power nation website (For some reason)
Rip joe Elmore, you and the rest of the power block crew were my Saturday mornings as a teenage car lover living in Canada 🇨🇦
You were an inspiration and will be missed by us all, my condolences to your family.
Project "Supernova"with Chuck and Joe was one of the best!
Brings back some memories. Grew up on this show. Cool vid thanks for posting it.
A great show with great hosts! RIP Joe.😢

Wow, I remember watching this...Joe looks so young!
What a great show. I was at the World Street Nationals that year and remember it well. It was nice to see a young Richard Stetson as the starter, he's like Moses!
I love these episodes
Excellent quality too 👍
More of these old episodes please! I started watching this and the other powerblock shows when i was in high school. My sisters husband was building a 68 Chevelle during that time in life.I got to hang with him and all his racing buddies.Went to Commerce dragway(Atlanta Dragway) all the time.Even ran into Joe from this show a couple times there. It got closed down after the 2021 season. What a bummer.Anyway, those were the days back then.
Man do these take me back
More of this please!! I'd like to see a full build video of project super nova.
I use to watch this on Saturday mornings miss those days.
Fly high Joe, if it weren’t for you this show wouldn’t be nearly as entertaining.
Joe looks so young
Super cool, really enjoyed!!!! 👍👍👍
Man these videos bring back so many memories. Do you have any from when this show was originally called Hot Rod TV?
Grew up watching these guys on Saturday morning after cartoons
Fun fact: This isn't even the very first episode of Horsepower TV. Believe it or not, it was known as Hot Rod TV and it actually debuted in 1997. The reason why it was renamed to Horsepower TV in 1999 was that TNN lost the rights to the Hot Rod Magazine naming. Sometime after Powerblock became Powernation, Horsepower became "Engine Power" and now mainly focuses on...you guessed it...engines!
That's true but it's still the first episode with the HP TV name.
Feel like I’m back in high school watching TNN
Used to love watching this back in the day 🔧🚗🐎🇺🇸👊
Much younger there, I myself enjoyed watching these two guys

I take it the first mods to the car where covered in the magazine? Since this is the first episode, would that be correct? I remember watching this show along with several others on TNN.
Joe is so young

Joe was a bit younger here
Whatever became of Chuck Hanson ?
@The Jerald nation No he didnt do your research
what is chuck and joe doing now
That 9 inch wasn't needed the 8.8 would have held up fine... u just added extra weight
The 8.8 can be built super stout now, back then there wasn't nearly as much aftermarket support. You are absolutely right about lighter in weight, but the limiting factor back in 99 was the availability of stronger axle shafts for the 8.8 vs 9". You have to take into consideration that the race scene was heavily foxbody back then and racers were dumping the 8.8 in favor of 9" when running nitrous, blowers and superchargers so aftermarket support was with the 9".
