I was watching this video and I was like "Huh. flat looks almost exactly like my favorite flat on my home lake!" then you revealed you are indeed, on Jordan! I even have the log you were describing at 6:28 charted, I found it while I was following your advice and graphing those two ditches on either side of it!!
great info, I've decided to take a week to understand bass behavior and where they will be and this was gold.
It's taken me 3 years to learn how to locate cover and then successfully catch fish offshore now its 90 % of my fishing depending on seasonal patterns of course thanks Johnny for the info much appreciated
Thats awesome! Gives me hope! This is the first year ill have a boat so i cant wait to put in the time
I’ll take a pep talk as well! The few small lakes near the big city I live in get absolutely punished with fisherman seven days a week. And everyone just runs the banks, so I need a Plan B. Thanks Melissa, I’m on that long road myself.
Lots of hard work and dedication goes into each video you create and we can tell. Thanks.
I'm glad you enjoy them!
I sure appreciate your devotion to fishing and educating others. You sure do your homework and are much appreciated. Thank you.
Awesome of you to open up right away and name your sources and motivation. Your videos are awesome and have something for all types of anglers chasing bass. Wonder if this information is relevant everywhere, US northern, Canadian, man made lakes or reservoirs. Keep up the great work.
The way you integrate statistics into bass fishing is groundbreaking. Thanks for sharing this information instead of keeping it to yourself
I'm glad the videos are helpful
Thank you for all your video's,we fished a comp against 158 boats this past weekend on a dam we never fished befor and ended in 11 spot overall ,keep up the good work
Couldn't help but chuckle because I know that spot. Caught several fish in that area when I had my Ranger. I live near Jordan and it does get absolutely pounded these days. Bank fishing there has gotten tougher for sure, but can still find a few. Great info and a good reminder for me that I need to spend a little more time on map study. 👍
Thanks Johnny. I live on Toledo Bend. I watched the video you referenced and seeing it explained on this video help tremendously!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for all your videos
Thank you Johny. When I get a boat I'm sure I'll be back here more often.
You goes have some very informative videos that have helped me in a few areas.
Good stuff as always, thanks for the vid
I did that mapping with Google Earth and it's very helpful!
Jonny, thanks for comparing the information in the Texas study with your new APP data compiler. This is an interesting eye opener. I was really hoping you would do this video series. A friend of mine and I have been discussing how the next BIG thing in fishing would be graphing & mapping to find fish, not Livescope only. 🍺🎣
Best info on the net!
Taking into account, the elite series follows (as best it can) the pre-spawn/spawn (and its general water temp range), moving from south to north throughout the year.
This is great info for me, because I live in Raleigh NC and I’m fishing a tournament this weekend on Jordan Lake 👍😎👍🎣 I hope to discover more info on Jordan, Shearon Harris, and Falls Lake because we are having more tournaments on those lakes this year. We fished Kerr lake a couple of weeks ago and this type of info would’ve been a great help, although we had 20+mph winds on Kerr 🤷🏻♂️. I started following you 4 years ago and somehow my algorithm was shifted, so I hope this reconnects us. Thank You 🙏 Will
Another fantastic video
Thanks great content, I’m gonna look for something similar at lake Norman NC tomorrow as I practice for the first BFL
Good luck!
I saw that video to I had to watch it again make sure I soaked it all in.
Thanks for the great information.
Glad you enjoyed!
I’ll give it a shot
VMC has a barbarian outbarb treble hook now that I really like also on my crank baits!
Thanks so much Jonny! You truly are the bass professor! Master of data, technology, and hands on proof. I always learn so much from you. Buck Perry taught that there us a seasonal aspect to this-basically longer migrations to flats in warm periods, shorter more vertical movements in colder water periods. This suggests the more traditional structures you outlined would be more likely to hold fish in colder periods. Does your data correlate with this at all?
The data actually shows that bass will set up on flats year round. There isn't a significant difference between spring, winter, summer, or fall in terms of how many tournament wins came from flats. I think the theory that bass are on more vertical structure in the winter is either incorrect, or bass have changed their behavior in the last 10 - 15 years.
I think we ass bass fisherman tend to think of flats as spawning flats. While they go to those in the spring, they definitely go to deeper "feeding flats" during the rest of the year.
@@FishtheMoment Thanks Jonny! I appreciate you responding!
Hey Mr Shultz you are a unbelievable information machine thanks for the great video God bless you and your family your pal fisherman Mike.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Hey DD26 now has "Live Foot" for your live scope imaging (not mounted to your trolling motor) STAY ON THE FISH👍
Great information Jonny. Maw bass like 888.
Wow… I hate that I am so late seeing this video. This sure tracks with what I have been experiencing for al least the past 3 years. Explains so much I have been blind to. Have you put together different data on different species and how it changes. I really noticed something was different when I started catching big largemouth on some offshore flats that had been kind of secret spots I had for the big Alabama spotted bass we have here.
Great info!
🤔
Thanks for the amazing insight. Do you still do virtual one on one teaching? Do you have any videos on mainly using the Garmin Striker series?
Hey bud can you do a break down for lake Greeson Arkansas. I would appreciate it so much
Very very interesting 🧐
I have been watching Ken Smith for a few months now and was amazed at these tracking results. I have been using Deep Dive during the prespawn and it is pointing me to the back of creeks on my two local lakes. Both lakes are producing better fish on the main lake. I realize that Deep Dive is based on past results but I have learned keeping an open mind still helps through the day.
Thanks for letting me know about that. We have gotten a lot of mixed feedback on the section of the lake recommendations. For many people, it's spot on. For others it's not always correct. We are looking at the data again to see if there's a way to improve this. I'm also collecting more data every week from tournaments on small, less popular lakes and this new data may be the key to solving this. We'll keep working to improve the app and really appreciate your feedback.
On navionics, what is shoaling? And I’ve noticed the topic of this video big time. I fish around Fort Worth and i went from being able to consistently catch a limit every time I went out fishing classic spots, to getting skunked a lot now. It’s tough for me though cause i fish out of a 12 foot John boat bass boat conversion and I don’t have spot lock or forward facing sonar any of the really fancy stuff to fish off shore efficiently. But I’ve been trying to use navionics to find less pressured spots lately. Hopefully 2022 will be better than 2021!
Can you brake down Norris lake in Tennessee for spring time bass fishing near hickory star?
Love your informative videos. I have noticed a huge increase in pressure since covid, I wonder if it will subside at all?
Glad you enjoyed! I don't think it's going to get any better and may even get worse...
I watched that video too.
Jonny, when will you fish Bull shoals lake?
wry helpful. Thanks. Some of the best down and side images i’ve seen come from trolling motor with a speed of 1.5 or 2. This plays in tandem with livescope when searching flats.
For bank fishing, getting to traditional structure areas can be time consuming, laborious, and hazardous. This information opens up a lot more of the lake for me. Thanks for a great video!
I have been taking this into consideration for 5ish years whenever I go to regular fisheries. Being from Maine, I still have access to waterways that are not intensely pressured though.
What time of year do they hang on those flats? Ty.
this is super general about a really pressured tournament lake lol
Do you think that the elite series (for the most part) following the spawn around the country has an affect on the data? Spawning “flats” would be targeted more.
So is it pressure or is it a food source that has changed because the lake has changed. Lake Fork is not the same as it was in 1995 thru 2000
When you find isolated cover (like a log or brush pile) in say 8'-15' of water that looks like it's holding fish on electronics, what's the best lure to start with?
Jig. T rig. Swimbait. Drop shot. Shaky head. Just take your pick lol. If they’re in the wood go with a flipping bait. If they’re suspended go with a swim bait
I think KVD was doing a lot of this 07-09. Seems like every tournament he won during that stretch was him throwing crankbaits "out in the middle of nowhere" on isolated schools of fish
Make sure to show Randy how to find them with side scan. Lol
Yup yup yup 💪🍺
Do u still give lessons?

Contrarians unite!
Do you fish tournaments or anything?
Not anymore, but I used to. Too hard to make videos and focus during tournaments. I get too distracted with all the camera gear and don't perform up to my expectations.
@Fish the Moment let me know if you come to south carolina to fish well pair up I have a nitro z20 2020
Well I guess everyone will be hitting the flats
"May take 1-2 hours idling at 3-5mph graphing these flats"
Me on my kayak: "Challenge accepted"
My body: "Wait wait what??"
Me on the bank: I’ll do my graphing on the contour maps.
Couldn't it be not the bass behavior changing but that there's just less fish, forcing anglers fish different locations and catching fish in areas that otherwise wouldn't be targeted to the degree that they are now.
This could be a bias in the data.
Maybe the fish have always been there and electronics have gotten better so people are starting to realize the so-called elites of the 80s and 90s did not know what they were talking about. New side scan/360/live is changing what we know.
It seems like all of the "sweet spots" that you have been making videos for, for all these years have just been debunked. I mean really, how many videos have you made about Flats. It seems to me that you know how to find fish with a fishfinder and just make a video about whatever structure you happen to find them on. I personally, have never had any luck following your video techniques. But keep up the good work Jonny.
What would be worth criticizing would be ignoring or sitting on new information. Criticizing someone for sharing the best information available in the past is below the belt.
Livescope is the problem it's disgusting
