- Origami is the art of folding paper into animals and is a Chinese tradition that has existed since 105 A.D.[1] While you typically use origami paper to fold these elaborate objects, you can also create origami by using the bills you have in your wallet. Making a turtle out of a dollar bill is an easy gift you can make for a friend or significant other, takes less than 15 minutes to do, and doesn't destroy the value of the bill that you use.[2]
1- Obtain a crisp, crease-free bill. The more crisp the bill, the easier it will be to make clean folds. Make sure there aren’t any existing creases, because you’ll be creating new creases that will guide you throughout the folding of the turtle.
If you can’t find a crisp $1 bill, try looking for a $10 or $20 bill.
Work on a flat surface like a desk or workbench so you can press hard on the folds.
2- Fold the dollar bill in half, lengthwise. Fold the dollar bill in half, lining the top of the bill with the very bottom of the bill. The top and bottom edges should not overlap or be folded on an angle.
-If you unfolded the bill, there would be a line running horizontally through the middle of the bill.
3-Fold the bill in half, from right to left. Fold it in half, so the left edge lines up with the right edge of the bill. Press down with your fingernail to flatten out the bill.
-The bill should now be exactly a quarter of the size that it was when you started
4- Unfold the bill and flatten it. This should reveal two creases forming a perpendicular cross in the middle of the bill. This also splits your bill into 4 equally sized quadrants.
The cross should meet right in the middle of George Washington’s cheek.
5-
Fold the bottom right hand corner on a 90 degree angle. The right hand side of the bill should align with the center crease. This also should leave George Washington’s face half covered by the right side of your bill.
6-
Fold the bottom left hand corner to the center crease. This should form a point where you folded both sides and resemble an upside down pyramid.
Make sure the flat end of the pyramid lines up, so you’re getting a perfectly diagonal crease.
7- Unfold then fold the top right and left corner of the bill to the center crease. Unfold the bill so it’s flat, and repeat the steps, this time using the top corners of the bill. Take the top left hand corner of the bill and bring it down, creating a 90 degree angle. Repeat with the right hand corner.
8-
Fold the two Xs in half, vertically. At this point, you should have two X shapes formed by the creases you just made. Fold the X on both sides so that each one has a crease running down the middle. Take the left edge of your bill and fold it horizontally so it lines up with the center crease, to get a perfect vertical crease down the center of your X.
This is the last crease that you need to make before you start folding your bill into a turtle.
9-
Unfold your bill. You should now see a cross in the middle of the bill, two creases on each side that form an X, and a vertical crease in each X. The middle of your bill should look like a diamond where the left and right X meet.
Creating creases may seem unnecessary, but it makes it easier to fold your turtle.

Me:*looks at thumbnail and thinks it looks cool
Also me after I make it: ThIS lOOks LikE ShIt
Lol😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 keep trying
Please change your cover photo to match the turtle in the video. Very disappointing when you get to the end and realize the turtle you are making is different than the one you expected.
EXACTLY! The picture should DEFINITELY be updated.
Also, it would help if he would either move his thumbs out of the way, or show what the folds/ crease is looking like as he's doing it. There's no verbal explanations to follow so it's difficult with thumbs blocking the view.
I love how they had all the instructions in the description if we didn't understand in the video I think that's really helpful for us.
Ok i will try
Can you please update the thumbnail to reflect the model you are providing the tutorial for?
the pic when you click on the video is diffrent that the tuttrle you make in the video
Oh sorry for that but hope you like the final model
Yeah, when I finished I was like "Uhhh...it doesn't look right." No wonder the video was so short.
Sharesa McCall that version is also different
Looked for origami all day for my saved up to Dollar bills this is the first easy one
Happy to hear you love it
my favorite part of origami videos is when they don't do the fold correct the first time and have to keep fixing it and ending up with soft wide folds instead of crisp edges /sarcasm
Here's a third but second the 1st the thumbnail is what I was looking for for the end product
No fair! I want to know how to make the one on the thumbnail!
Thanks, it was easy to understand. Used it for a tip for a cruise ship employee. I used a $20 which is not as good due to the face being offset from center on the actual bill. But it still worked out.
Good job.my.friend,!.congratulations.Ny.Queens. ML
Thank you so much
Now can we see how to make the pictured in the title icon because the one in the video is nothing like that.
