    I have both Circle View and the Eve Cam. I have had issues since the beginning with the Circle View dropping connection. It kept getting worse until I could not get it to connect. I moved my Eve Cam to where the Circle View was and have no connection issues. I replaced the Circle View with an Aqara E1 and also no connection issues. The Eve App is great and I use it all the time. I recommend Eve based on two years of usage.

    Great idea to compare Eve with Logi. We did a Circle View on our back porch and have been considering indoor cameras. Eve appears to offer a fantastic platform and option for that! Great video as always Shane!!

    Congrats on your channel and thank you for all the info on HomeKit you provide. Just a comment you mentioned the Logitech camera has a white cable, I think that’s good since even in your example on the video you put the Eve cam on your chimney, the cable can hide better because is white like your chimney and more people have white or light wall rather than black or dark walls. I think is a good idea. Thanks again.

    I wish you would do a review of the Netatmo Presence Outdoor Camera and Motion Light. It is a bit on the pricey side so it may not fit into your "low cost" HomeKit system. But I really like your reviews and trust that you are NOT just trying to upsale us on a bunch of stuff sold by Amazon. I really like your style and the no BS and no rambling like I see on a lot of other channels. There are not a lot of very good HomeKit dedicated channels, much less channels that are producing weekly content (I also appreciated your video of the other HomeKit content providers and I have subscribed to all of them as well; however, you are still my favorite HomeKit content channel). Please keep up the great work and looking forward to more great reviews.

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  4 года назад +2

      Thanks so much for the kind words! I do try to cut out as much rambling and BS as possible (believe me, I have to edit out a LOT of my rambling). I try to make every video as short as possible without sacrificing any important information. If I could make every video 5 minutes, I would.
      I am quite interested in the Netatmo Outdoor Camera as well. I'm not sure if I'll be doing a review on it or not. I'm actually waiting to see if it gains support for HomeKit Secure Video like they claim. If it does, then it's definitely something I may look into.
      Thanks again for watching and for all the support!

    I’m trying to get away from my Nest products and transition everything to HomeKit. My first attempt at HSV was with the Circle View and boy was I disappointed. Comparing specifically between Nest (Aware) and HomeKit (HSV), HomeKit has a long way to go. Recordings on HSV are a pain to watch, the dates a randomly wrong, and no 24/7 recording. Then only one person at a time can view a live stream on HomeKit. I’d gladly pay Apple a premium on top of my iCloud storage plan to get these features. For now they’ve forced me to stick with Google Nest and that sucks.

    • @rstr0up
      @rstr0up 4 года назад

      Can HSV work with Nest as I’ve tied my Nest cams with the Starling hub. Don’t want to buy the iCloud storage plan if it won’t work.

      @@rstr0up No I don't think it does. Only live viewing is available. Honestly unless you want to use your cameras for automations then the Nest app is far superior at this time.

  • @tiggerlove12

    Thanks for a great video Shane. I have Nest cameras but, of course you have to pay for the Nest Aware which the price isn’t bad but the privacy is much more appealing to me as it should be for anyone. So after seeing this review I believe I’m going to get the eve. I’ll keep the nest just so I can check on my kids when they are upstairs doing homework 🤔. Keep up the great work. Glad I found ur channel.

    The cable on the Circle View is not removable so it can be waterproof. Though why white is a valid question.

      Good point.

    • @Polkster13
      @Polkster13 4 года назад +2

      For outside applications, white colors tend to reflect heat better than black colors. However, if that were the reason why they made the cable white in color, then why didn't they also make the camera white in color? That is a real head scratcher. I don't mind the non-removable power cable (to help make it more weather proof), but having a different color cable to the color of the camera is something that would really bother me. I also don't like the button that you can push to turn off. Someone nefarious that kenos this can sneak up to the camera (when it is outside) and very easily disable it without you knowing git and then steal stuff from your property without them being seen. Of course you could always argue that they could also just cut the cord, but at least I am not making it too easy for them to defeat my security system. Does anyone know if an alert is sent if the camera is turned off via the button on the camera?

    I'm really liking your previous videos about Aqara / HomeKit. I started buying some of then. Do you have some suggestions to boost the range?

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  4 года назад +1

      I haven't had any issues with range from my Aqara accessories. But if you have a really large house, you could get multiple hubs if that becomes an issue. I also know the Aqara wall switches (with neutral wire) act as zigbee repeaters (not sure what type of switches you have in your area). Also, the Aqara g2h cameras can be used as hubs as well if you end up getting some of those.

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  2 года назад +1

      Congrats on the new home! The only clear solution: convert your wife to an Apple user. 😆
      But seriously, you'll probably want to look for cameras that at least have an app that'll work on Android and Apple devices. Eve is one of the rare ones that are HomeKit exclusive (Apple only). If you use Google and Apple speakers, maybe look for cameras that support both Google Assistant and HomeKit, then you can use either voice assistant and should work with both phones.

    Shane - Nice video. Do you know if this (or any HomeKit secure compliant cam) supports real video scrub in recordings? For example, can you slide your finger over the timeline and watch the video move? This is very helpful to completely review a clip.

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  4 года назад +1

      Since HSV recordings can only be viewed in the Home app, recordings for all cameras will playback the same here. You actually are supposed to be able to do this. If you pinch and zoom on the timeline you can go in close and are able to scrub the timeline and watch it. However, I know this doesn't always work great probably because of the connection and loading issues.
      The only alternative I can think of is to try your luck with cameras that also support some sort of local storage that may give you better playback options int the manufacturer's app. Cameras such as Netatmo, Onvis, and Eufy support local storage as well as HomeKit Secure Video.

    Thanks for the review Shane! Quick question…when using HomeKit secure video with either of these cameras do you find that the resolution or quality of image drops when you are viewing a lifestream versus watching recordings? I have heard that some cameras, when connected to HomeKit secure video, record at 1080P but stream at 720P. Thanks.

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  4 года назад

      Thanks Alan! No, if your lights are already working in HomeKit, you will not need the codes if you add a HomePod to your setup.
      On another note, if you haven't already, you may want to consider looking at the HomePass app for storing and saving all your homekit codes in the future. It's great for this type of thing.

    Hey Shane. One option i can't find anywhere in camera's is this: I want the camera to not record anything while my family is at home. At night when everyone goes to bed, i DO want it to record for potential burglary. Any idea on how to achieve this?
    My current solution is to have my old circle view on a smart socket and trigger the power on or off with automations.. which is far from ideal but it does work. The major downside to this is i can't view any footage when the camera is turned off.
    Thanks for your two cents.

    Can you change the home settings from Detection only to record and Stream with an automation? If I install this in the Garage. But when everything is closed, i just want motion to trigger lights when we are in the garage from the garage-house door.

    Hi Shane, Great video I'm trying my luck here,
    When I add someone to my homekit it always thinks that they are at home when they are not.
    The result is that my eve camera doesn't activate when I leave the house as intended
    I tried everything like resetting apple tv and every homekit devices.
    I tried adding the user when we are both outside the house but everytime I add her it works like for 10 min and then the camera stop working as if Homekit detect the user in my house.
    When I am alone in the homekit userlog (for example when I reset everything) it works perfectly fine.
    I don't understand ...

    • @ShaneCreates

      It sounds like it may be an issue with the user's location settings. First make sure all location settings are enabled and then make sure location is being determined by the correct device (iPhone, not iPad for example). Hopefully that helps.

    1. Can I set this camera up if she lives in another house, or do I need to be on the same Wi-fi through the Eve app? I know Apple home would require me to be on the same Wi-fi.
    2. For motion detection, is it very sensitive or can you adjust sensitivity, so for example if I’m looking at monitoring when she’s sleeping, will it detect turns etc?
    Many thanks 🙏🏽

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  4 года назад +1

      You can adjust the sensitivity between Low, Medium, and High on this camera. However I can't say for sure if it will be sensitive enough to detect turns while someone is sleeping.
      You should be able to set this up for her, even on your phone if you wanted at her house. However, to access it outside of her network, you must have a HomeKit Hub in the same home (HomePod, Apple TV or iPad) since this camera works exclusively with HomeKit. Hope this helps.

    If we upgrade our iCloud storage can these still be used to record video? They not officially HomeKit compatible but did t want to buy all new cams.

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  4 года назад

      Cameras must support HomeKit Secure Video in order to record and save clips to your iCloud account. So I don't think this would work with the starling hub. I'm pretty sure all that does is give you access to the live stream in HomeKit, not recording.

      Unfortunately there aren't any permission settings for cameras, devices or rooms (hopefully one day 🤞🏻). So anyone with access to your homekit home can view cameras. You can set them to "stream only" for specific people in the Home app settings, so they can't view recordings, but they'll still be able to view live streams.

I added my logi circle 2 cameras (x5) when the beta was first released... had huge recording issues and reverted them back to logi app.... seem was a mix of poor upload speeds my end and HomePod / Apple TV fighting for ASV which now seems fixed. As I’m getting fibre installed tomorrow, Iv started converting back to Apple secure video. But it’s only letting me record 2 cameras, when I add a 3rd it says maximum of 5 has already been reached (I’m running 2tb iCloud plan) it’s almost like the previous converted cameras are still stuck in the system somehow, but not presant.
    So basically I’m stuck with only 2 camera recording out of 5 and it’s saying I’ve reached my limit. Cameras were removed from home kit when converted and re added back from ASV - logi firmware.
    Any advice hugely welcome ✌🏼

      Hey Lee, that's interesting. I haven't heard of anyone with that issue yet. If you haven't already, this is what I would try: 1) Restart all of your HomeKit hubs. If that doesn't help, 2) sign out of iCloud everywhere and sign back in. (again, you may have already tried all this)
      It seems like it could be a problem with the homekit hub and maybe resetting those could help. If none of that helps, I'd probably try to get back in touch with Logitech and see if that is a known problem. Maybe it's an issue on their end regarding the beta firmware.

      @@bonk841 because they send the wrong ones, i only have the G2, fot homekit i wil have to wait 4 weeks. G2 works fine but only in the xiomi home app. its really good image, and the motion sensor work good to receive notifications. only won't they work with the aqara app and homekit. there small, and easy to install and point to the direction you want.

    Good video Shane but it seems like many reviews of these cameras have already been uploaded by others in the HomeKit community, so why make another one? Stick to your unique product reviews and HomeKit automation tips, this is what makes many of us subscribe to your channel!
