Doing this today. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm really glad the price dropped on this repair kit. Kit had everything I ordered. It came in quickly.
Finished this project today. Speakers work perfectly. I couldn't be any happier with the results. Tips from my experience:
    1. Set aside several hours to allow glue to dry.
    2. The cutting, around 12:00, is tedious. Try to reach under the cone and roll up the remaining foam/glue. This worked for me and was much easier.
    3. When gluing to the frame, keep applying pressure even after it seems like the glue is taking hold. I did this on one speaker, moved on to the next one, and noticed the first one started coming up. Take your time on this.

Worked like a charm in my new-to-me 2005 Sequoia. Driving home from the dealership, I noticed the bass was turned all the way down to minus 5. After adjusting it, I quickly saw why. Deteriorated foam surrounds! Bought this kit as soon as I got home. It arrived in two days. One recommendation: after getting most of the old foam off the metal basket, I used alcohol and a small stiff-bristle brush to scrape off the rest of the old adhesive and foam. Worked great. It is a messy process, but these directions are perfect and my Sequoia sounds fantastic!

I refoamed a pair of Tundra front speakers. I glued the surrounds behind the cones like the factory did. It actually seemed easier than mounting them on top. They slipped right in and sat snug and perfect. I did make sure that the cones were very clean on the backs and sides. The speakers look and sound great. This video is very informative. Excellent job. Thank you!

Just did this to my Tundra speakers. Fast shipping. Really good foam. The only thing i did different was I didn't wait for the glue to dry to do the next glue steps, I did it all at the same time one after the other and then let the whole thing dry together. Worked great and I was so happy when I put it back together and tested the speakers. They sounded great and no more rattling and listening to treble-only music! Definitely recommenced over replacing speakers.

Put off dealing with the speakers in my 2005 Tundra for a couple of years, guy in the video is correct, cant just replace with generic speakers due to impedance issue,1 ohm vs 4 ohms commonly found on generic replacements. I ordered the kit which came in a few days. Just completed the install and I must say my expectations were exceeded! I was pretty skeptical even after reading the reviews but for $29.00 felt it was worth the shot. Thanks for a great product, great value, fast delivery, and superb video instruction.

After pricing the cost of new speakers, I decided to try this process, and I'm so glad. You can't replace the 2005 Sequoia Speakers with low cost universal speakers without a lot of work and the cost to purchase new factory JBL speakers range between $300 (online) to $410 (at the dealer) each. I ordered the kit Monday, it came on Friday (last night). I completed the job last night using the kit and this great video. Took me about three hours (did both of the front speakers), most of the time was spent waiting for the glue to dry. The speakers sound like they did when I bought the car new. Great investment...just follow the video and take your time. A small wood chisel worked perfectly for me to scrap the old glue and filter off. The speakers in my 2005 had an additional cover and the tweeter was attached as well when I removed them, but that did not get in the way of the repair job. All the steps were the same and the kit worked perfectly. I encourage you to try this out before wasting your money on new speakers. Also if you cannot do it your self, it's worth sending the speakers in to these guys for $50 each repair, if you can do without the speakers for a while. Fired up the speakers this morning, Phil Collins "Air at Night" drum solo, never sounded so good.

Just installed the kit for a 2002 Sequoia. This is the easiest re-foam I have ever performed. Foam fit perfectly. I also like the quality feel of the foam. I did not have to shave any glue off of the center speaker part. The old foam just came off with a little finger work leaving nothing behind. Happy. Thanks.

Bought a set of surrounds for a pair of 12" Cerwin-Vegas that I bought in 1984 and a set for a 2006 Toyota Sequoia JBL system. The Simply Speakers videos are spot on. Super easy to follow. Watched them a couple of times to ensure I knew I was doing it correctly. Only issue I ran in to was the adhesive drying too fast on the Cerwin-Vegas. I put the glue on sparingly as instructed, but I live in Phoenix and it was 95 degrees outside, and the glue dried before I could get it adjusted accurately. I removed it (and a little bit of cone paper), reapplied the adhesive and managed to get it aligned fairly accurately (certainly not as good as the video, but not bad). Speakers sound great. Voice coil shimming is not required, like the video said. Great job and a great value from Simply Speakers. Saved me hundreds of dollars. Thanks again.

      Hello Doug.
Thank you for taking the time to review! Dryer climates can cause the glue to setup faster. Glad you got it done and have them back up and running! Enjoy!

Great video. I use an old tooth brush to remove the legacy foam off the cone. Gets the foam off without damaging anything. I use a duster to blow off the dust prior to installing the new foam.

Just did this for my '06 Tundra. The process isn't really that bad. Definitely messy. At first glance my surrounds looked fine. After further inspection it was totally disconnected around the top gasket. All in all this was a great way to restore the sound in my truck. I would recommend it to anyone with a can do attitude.

Purchased my kit from Simply Speakers about a week ago..they shipped the kit timely...the whole process (including removing the old speakers and replacing them in my Sequoia) took around 4-5 hours including wait time for glue to dry...like he says in the tutorial take your time and do a good clean up job when removing the old speaker foam and you should have great results...very happy with the outcome and savings as a result of doing this myself vs. paying for new speakers! Highly recommend...

Great video and product. I just finished this project on my brothers 05 Toyota Sequoia and it can out fantastic. I watched the video several times so I knew what tools were needed and how to remove the old foam and adhesive. The application was pretty straightforward. I wonder if anyone has tried adhesive remover instead of rubbing alcohol to completely remove foam and residue from the frame. I know it probably wouldn’t affect the overall performance of the speakers. Also the glue tacked up a lot quicker than shown in the video, possibly because my bro decided to wait 2 years after purchasing theses from Simply Speakers to finally have me install them.😂

Great video. Very instructive and very helpful. Good camera angle, and good commentary and manual demonstration.
I would like to say that he should caution viewers to avoid cutting toward your hand with the utility knife. Around 5:57, you can see that he is cutting towards his hand, which is dangerous.
Also, it would be good to mention the drying times for the glue.

I just did this yesterday. The second was much easier than the first. With the first one, I glued the new foam to the front of the cone as in this video. With the second one, I glued the new foam to the back of the cone. The reason was that after pushing the inner edge of the foam ring around the cone, the foam was super snug ... like it just fit perfectly. I almost wonder if the glue is even necessary.
In any event, both speakers sound great now. I should have done this a loooong time ago.

  • @mabjr

I did this today on my 05 Sequoia. The first one I did, the Driver side, looks cleaner, but sounds not great when I tested it (like a blown speaker). The second one, the passenger side, I used a lot more glue to secure the foam to the paper and it doesn't look as pretty, but it sounds perfect. I removed the Driver side speaker and I was thinking about sealing the perimeter of the foam with glue to the paper cone. Any other suggestions? Nothing else is different, and nothing is damaged.

    • @simplyspeakers

Rear speakers are cloth surround (not foam). No repair needed unless spiders come loose from frames, then easy reglue.

There's also a liquid sealer being recommended. What is the sealer for and is it applied after the repair is done?

The kit will repair two speakers.

    • @simplyspeakers
      @simplyspeakers  7 лет назад +1

Yes, apply after the repair is complete. Liquid Foam Guard is a brush on PVA sealer that protects foam surrounds from moisture and mechanical breakdown. Includes 1 oz. bottle and brush applicator. Goes on white, dries clear, and leaves a slight gloss finish.

    • @WOWDOWN

More specifically it is the electrical connector clip, every other video I’ve watched of speaker repairs on the 2006 sequoia they just cut the wires to bypass the clip. If anyone can help explain how to remove the clip I would very much appreciate it.
