A few tips and comments to add here: you can lower the seat a bit by removing it with the key and rotating the plate insert underneath, puts you 1" lower to the ground and further below the windshield. Keeps weight lower too. IMO test ride a Super Tenere' ES after it has been broken in with 4000+ miles. Then, take it to real mountain twisty roads with lots of elevation changes and you will better understand what this bike can really do on-road. Just got back from 960 miles of twisty mountain coastal roads in the USA/California on the CA-1 coastal highway. An amazing bike, and the extra weight keeps it planted in high crosswinds and turns, just lean in and its an awesome road bike. i.e. I've test ridden all of the 1200 ADV bikes, and for the road - the Super Tenere' is quite amazing, super easy to ride, and you can scrap pegs and remove chicken strips on the tires with ease. i.e it "rides small" and handles like a much lighter and smaller bike.
I'm swapping my Gen1 for a 2017 model this week (exactly the same as this bike in the vid). Out of all of the vlogs this one best shows the navigation around the suspension set ups with braking which is very useful. The XT1200Z is a very underated adv bike which unfortunately is overshadowed by other brands. It does do everything right without fuss and without scaring you to death. Not only is it cheaper but also slightly lighter than other adv bikes and living in the UK with the dark winters we have. I can 100% say the lights are the best lights I've ever had on a bike with 21yrs experience. Great vlog 👍👍
Like on many cars, you have to "activate" the cruise-control feature before using it.
To activate it you press the special button. Then you can fix the current speed by pressing the "set" button.
One of the best bikes I've ridden. Tried it on offroad too and it was funnnn
Way to go Cager...Best bike reviews anywhere...Keep em comin!!
Great review Cager, nice to see someone drive it with a bit more spirit, than the usually
straight line american test rides we see.
Keep up the good work.
Cager. Very good review. You are the best. You don't swear in your reviews. Way to go. And you are funny.
Great review, seen so many people moan about the performance, yet you rode it full on and it deffo dosnt look underpowered to me so well done!!
happy to see that you like this bike... It's a pleasure to ride on a daily basis. ..
you missed few points but especially one... Super T also have combined and assisted braking, meaning you act on both front and rear disk brake when you hit break lever first.. if you use brake peadal first, you can still use deceleration only from rear. ABS and dual ;-)
love the sound and it's stock! very few stock bikes sounds decent these days. think akrap would compliment it fantastic
thanx for great review, im eager to buy this brand new in few months
Great job, entertaining review!
Love the Star Wars reference. Love the reviews.
Considering it for my next bike.. Thanks for the video!
I've decided this is my next bike. I love watching positive reviews! Thanks.
Ron C
Did you purchase it? Looking to trade up to one
My plan was to trade my VTX, but...life. My POS VW took a crap and I've had to put the Tenere on the back burner for now. Thankfully I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with over 220k mile as a back-up vehicle.
My understanding is any pressure on the clutch lever can cause cruise control not to work, also make sure the clutch lever isn't sticking ever so slightly by pushing it forward. The cruise doesn't activate until third gear about 35 or 45 mph can't remember which. Good review.
Thanks Cager. Looks like loads of fun. Not a big fan of big bikes, but I'd buy that one if I had the bucks. Lol!
probably the best review
Can you please give me your comparison between the VERSYS 1000 and the Super Tenere? I'm looking for new bike and I'm torn between those two.
Like the review.. So much so that I bought the Super Tenere. My first ADV bike and i like it very much. I did try the steps going down and it worked well. Thanks for the the review. Now picking bags for this ADV bike??? So many choices..
I have the SW Motech Trax Adventure. Awesome system and also great connection to bike and very easy.
Hi Cager, did you figure the issue with the cruise control or asked the dealer? I suspect, as you also mentioned in the clip, that it only works in sixth.
I own this bike, standard not ES, and there is a speed/gear requirement before cruise control can be turned on. I honestly don't remember the requirements as I only use it on the freeway but there is a limitation. It also won't turn on cruise control if its not capable of keeping the speed you set. For example, if you set it to 50mph and are going up a steep hill it might shut its self off, or not turn on at all.
Hi. What clutch is it.? Hydraulic so it is very lite. Hope so. Thanks!
Cager.
* após a activação...
hey cager I know you are mainly a motorcycle channel but do you by any chance have any videos of yesterday when Portugal won the Euros? Like people celebrating
otherwise nice review. I especially liked the fact that you decided to do a second review of the Super Tenere aftrer gaining a lot more experience.
haha nice! Congratz to all you guys well and very efficiently played.
BTW is there any chance you will review a single cylinder Enduro like a Honda CRF250L (guess you would like it since it is a really fun around town bike) or the yamaha XT660 after your hangover from the last days has cleared?
Hmm... Sounds and behaves likes a good parallel twin street bike, is well-balanced and a good sports tourer, and has the clever suspension setup and rider aids. But is it true to the great Tenere name? Tenere bikes used to be very focussed Paris-Dakar single cylinder machines.
what about the ktm 1290 super adventure ducati multistrada 1200s the pikes peak version and also the endro model
a few notes:
next time, mention the height of the tires and the diameter of the rims
the speedo is also the same for the Yamaha tracer 900/fj-09
torque and horsepower figures are always important, and its not that hard to check them before the video
Hi. Great review of the super ten. Lots of funny bits. Can I ask though did you notice if the gear box was smooth in operation or was it notchy and a little clunky?
I just picked one up. Super smooth.
Cager, how would you compare the Super Tenere to the Suzuki V Strom 1000? Are they comparable handling wise, I had a V Strom 1000 and loved the bike, but want a bike with all the creature comforms. I know the Tenere weighs much more, does it feel significantly heavier while handling at slow speeds?
thanks for the quick reply, much appreciated. @@CagerOnTwoWheels
I have a Yamaha cruiser (Stratoliner) and due to reliability I would like to stick with Yamaha as I add an ADV bike. The reviews are all over the place on the Tenere from it being great to it being too old (especially electronics), Not sure if Yamaha plans any updates. They invested big again in the big cruiser market with the Venture/Eluder and that hasn't seemed to work. However, with the adventure market being so hot, you'd think they would want to stay up to date and compete with BMW/KTM/Honda/Suzuki.
Hey Cager, can you review Tmax 530?
How did you find the seat height, I am 5ft 7" and I am on my tip toes anything over 815mm seat height
seat height is adjustable on high/low position, I am 5'8 and i have both foot on the ground.. at least for 2014 and after models...
did he sad it cost's 16000 euros? here the Africa twin costs the same. I think in Portugal motorcycles are relatively cheap.
Clean your lens dude! Nice review, as usual.
Awesome Sauce!!
Hi Cager! (NOOT!) I like your videos man. Don want to be a prick but in 26:08 you jumped the red light and you didn't even notice. ;-)
Ride safe an keep up the good work.
P.S. Did you consider trying Suzuki GSR 750 or any Intruder? I like your reactions and curiosity is eating me out. :-D
I really cringed when I saw this...
Dont worry it´s just a red light that turns on if you go over 70kph. There´s no intersection nor pedestrians who cross it. It would have turned green 2 secs later
Cager, nem fizeste o test ride a KTM 1290 Super Aventure, que é bem melhor que a KTM Adventure 1050... Faz o test ride dessa depois aí podes comparar com o resto... Essa sim é o topo de gama
drive shaft on an adventure motorbike for me makes common sense after having stones jam in my chain a few times while off road.
congrats cager on a european championship
How tall are you, Cager?
Any chance you testride a BMW?
this
nice catch for cager at 7:08 :)
You should do a BMW GS review.
Would you prefer this over the Africa Twin?
I'd definitely like to hear your thoughts on the comparison with the Africa Twin.
afrika twin, has a chain and the seating is not so good ,no cruise control..Dct is not for all riders ..i chose the teneree every time..but the afrika twin has also my attention..
Nice review, odd cruise control behaviour though.
Ha, got the new AT. I'm 1m73. Best technique to get on it: mawashi geri :-)
Hey cager how tall are u? great vids btw!
1,74m
cager make a shifting video!!
its funny. I just crossed whole portugal from north to south with my super tenere. And by the way i found another subscriber meanwhile i was stuck in a national road just after passing oporto
That cruise control would drive me nuts. Unless its faulty.
works perfectly well... you just need to turn it on ..and set the limit
Which country is it?
Portugal
that way of entering the bike for smaller person doesn't work because you can't take off the side stand with you on her. xD I use this metod: take off side stand with me off her, with her off and on first and lean slightly and i can go easy on top of her ;)
Maybe you should review the specifications before doing the video, that way you won't need to make them up on the spot and get so many things wrong.
Did you say it's restricted to 25 units? >_>
Sam Horne this one is 1 of 25 limited edition. Touratech 25th anniversary they (with Yamaha Portugal) decided to launch this special edition.
I know, just surprised at the limit
Dear Cager, all new bikes have C-ABS regards EU regulations. Stop looking for ABS :)
Not the best idea to start learning cruise control in city traffic. 108km/h against red lights (26:09)
I tought you were test driving that scooter on 00:06 lmao
I too
+wFreNiX *me
+Filipe Carvalho sorry, I'm italian 😅
+wFreNiX it's alright m8, I'm Portuguese
+Filipe Carvalho 👍
great review!!! you will never ride my bikes, fz-09 650 vstrom yamaha raider yamaha grizzly 700 I'll call you the trasher I can't believe the dealers are not pissed off the way you abuse the bikes; still I enjoy your videos great job
Jazz Hands !! haha
Incrível como topei em 5 segundos que era um tuga a falar inglês.
Clean the camera bro. Excellent video. But I had a viewing problem adjusting my eyes. Since the brain thinks its me. Just to say something
Jerky head movement makes me nauseous, other than that I enjoy your rides!
Clean your lens!
Good bike but overpriced compared to competitors, at 10 or 11 thousand it would be worth it.
Another review by some guy that doesn't know anything about the bike he's reviewing.
"Jazz hands!" Lol
👍😎💪🙌👊😉💣💣💣💣💣💣💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
How can you take a review like this serious he must of got every other spec on this bike wrong....😖
mate. this guy has stolen your video: ruclips.net/video/8soHFxLXaPM/видео.html
next time try to read manual first instead of wasting half a video trying to guess how to turn f cruise control on :)
The Super Tenere is Super Expensive and is almost non-existent in U.S roads. In fact, i've never seen it anywhere outside the annual motorcycle show here in NYC. Nobody in their right mind would choose this over say a BMW F800 GS.
