    Hi. Nice video! From the clip where you are in the water and use fins it looks like maybe fins are on a soft side.. Cant say for sure but it appears. What would you say, would it be better to add one more glass layer in between to make them a bit stiffer? Asking for myself since am planning to make as well. Thank you!

      Hello! For sure more layers would make it stiffer, but it's more work for you. I would just use 300 g / smt materials, and make sure to get the bubbles out.

    Hello, thank you for the video, it was very informative and helpful. How are the fins holding up so far? Would you do anything differently if you did it again? I'm planning to make similar blades for my Mares foot pockets, however I weight around 90kg, and will probably use denser fibers to make them a bit stiffer.

      Hi, Good luck with yours! Mine are holding up pretty good. I inspect them sometimes and there are no cracks or anything only scratches on it from normal use. If I'd remake it I probably would use a slower hardening epoxy resin just to make the layering & bagging less stressful :)

    Hello Mr. Gergely.
    I found Your channel while looking for information about spearfishing in Malta and I really liked it. You are doing a great job :)
    In two weeks I'll be coming to Gozo for a few days and I would love to spearfish a bit but I'm having very difficult time finding information about Maltese law. In one place I've read that it is forbidden to do all kinds of fishing/spearfishing in Marine Conservation Areas, which would be most of the islands, on some other place it says you only have to watch for wrecks and marinas and some different forbidden areas are marked at Navionics.
    Could You please tell me what's the status of Marine Conservation Areas? It would be great help.
    Kind regards, Aleksander

      Hello, when I started out I also had the same question. I asked a friend of mine, who works as a freediving / spearfishing instructor here and even he wasn't entirely sure about the conservation areas or where could I find clear information about it. Locals told me that fishing is a basic right for civilians here, and the Marine Conservation Areas are meant for the fishing companies.
      What I know is that you CAN NOT spearfish:
      - at night
      - with a scuba tank, or if scuba divers are around
      - at beaches
      - at wrecks and marinas (even if you freedive to a wreck and have a gun attached to your bouy you are defenetly going to get fined :) )
      I follow these rules and I never had any issues.
      I never fished in Gozo, but others say it's better there than Malta. I'm planning a trip there in May. Please tell me how it went, and especially if you find some good spot, I'll be sure to check it out :). And be careful with the boats!

      Thank you very, very much; this is incredibly helpful :) I will do my best to avoid any possible trouble.
      I'll happily report how the trip went and what spots were worth the attention. Maybe I will menage to get my hands on an action cam, so you will be able to watch it.
      I'll speak to you in three weeks :)
      Kind regards and dive safe!

    very nice video! are they reliable? Thats my only concern, if they break while you are deep

    • @gergelykonrad1773
      @gergelykonrad1773  6 месяцев назад +2

      Hi, they feel safe so far, only time will tell... but I made some experiments with sandwiching fibre glass in carbon fibre. Always the carbon breaks first because the fibre glass is stronger and more flexible than the carbon (but heavier). So if it will ever break it will break at the end 1/3 because thats the weekest part, but then I will still have the 2/3 of the blade to come up with in an emergency.
      I't depends on your weight and how deep you go I guess. I'm 76kg and dive about 20-22m at most and these feel reliable for me. You can make it stronger (and stiffer) by using 300 g / smt materials or more layers, and make sure to get the bubbles out.
      The best way to remove the bubbles would be to use resin vacuum infusion, but that process is far more complicated.

      @@baehhmagic Oh, you mean these: 10:04. I cut some sticks from the leftover material (where it was the thickest) and then glued them on with a bit of epoxy. I left some gaps so the blade would stay flexible. Maybe I should have used more, smaller sticks, or just glued on the rubber side rails all the way (some people do that).

    Hi! Why did you use carbon fibre AND fiberglass in combination? I mean... whats the benefit of the fiberglass at all?
    Also: can any epoxy be used for this? Or does it need to some kind of flexible epoxy?
    Nice video for sure!

    • @gergelykonrad1773
      @gergelykonrad1773  3 месяца назад

      Hello! fibreglass is cheaper :) Use uv resistant epoxy, or some kind that is used for boats (I got mine from a sailing shop). West system epoxy is used by many but its not the cheapest choice.

    • @MoniqueSchüwek
      @MoniqueSchüwek 3 месяца назад

      @@gergelykonrad1773 I see, but didn´t expect it to be that much of a price difference when selfmade.
      At what cost did you make your two fins?

    • @gergelykonrad1773
      @gergelykonrad1773  3 месяца назад

      epoxy+hardener = 20€
      carbon fibre = 20 €
      fibreglass cloth = 8 €
      peel ply, breadher cloth = 4 €
      plexi glass = 10 €

    • @gergelykonrad1773
      @gergelykonrad1773  3 месяца назад

      Also good to know when you sandwich fibre glass with carbon fibre. The fibre glass core is more flexible, and stonger BUT HEAVIER than the carbon fibre. So if the fins would break at some point it will break at the lower 3rd part where there is only carbon fibre. If it would break at a point where there is fibre glass (maybe because of a fault or air bubble) then the fibre glass would still keep the fins in one part, only the carbon fibre would break. Here is a detaild video about this: ruclips.net/video/j7bQYEt_qtU/видео.html

    • @MoniqueSchüwek
      @MoniqueSchüwek 3 месяца назад

      @@gergelykonrad1773 oh nice! Very inspiring :)
      maybe it would be an option to lay the fibre glass in two 1inch "ribs" along the fin instead, from top to bottom?
      And instead, to the carbon layer thinner, like only 1x top and 1x bottom?
      Great videolink, also!
