    Can this be done without the vacuum bag ?

    • @RuskiWeldFab
      @RuskiWeldFab  11 месяцев назад

      yes absolutely. but i would not advise it. you want to compress the layers.

    • @nonamebleach

      @@RuskiWeldFab what if I put a flat board on the top and put weights on top of that to compress it?

    When you ran the vacuum pump to remove the air, how long did you have the pump running on that splitter?
    Was it a matter of running the pump continuously for the cure time, and the droning noise was just edited out for time?
    Or did you get to the pressure drop you wanted, measured by a gauge, and then shut the valve on the line, check for leaks, and leave it be to cure?

    • @RuskiWeldFab
      @RuskiWeldFab  2 года назад +3

      On this splitter I had it running for about 4-5h because we couldn’t eliminate all air escaping places. We tried. Once it cured enough I switched it off. But most of the time, YES. Get the pressure, shut it off, check for leaks and leave as is. In the ideal world lol

    • @ChrisRawnsley
      @ChrisRawnsley 2 месяца назад

      @@RuskiWeldFab To add, this is because if you leave it running to long you can actually pull the resin out of the material, leaving dry spots, its hard with wet layup and you should do a drop test before actually starting to prevent this, only way to do it perfectly is using infusion..

    Just bought all the kit to give this a go myself, thanks for the great guide video! What sort of plywood did you use as the "tool" surface? I'm worried about the resin keying into normal ply, even with release agent and ruining a project that's quite expensive in terms of materials.

    • @RuskiWeldFab
      @RuskiWeldFab  2 года назад +1

      Glad it helped. its phenolic ply (buffalo board) glass is best. but any shiny surface will work

    Hey! Great video mate!
    I have 1 question, can this be done by infusion using that core foam? I have made some parts before but the lower face doesn’t get infused, and I believe it’s because the foam it’s not breathable and resin will not get to the first 3 layers of carbon. In your Kevlar splitter video I saw the foam you use have little holes. Will this be the help for the first layers? Can I make holes to the foam I’m using so they get infused?
    Thanks for the tips!

    • @RuskiWeldFab
      @RuskiWeldFab  10 месяцев назад

      Yes, absolutely. foam needs holes for infusion. can be drilled manualy.
