I’m conservative but I love her, we don’t have to have the same political reviews to love each other - her 1990 performance of “Nothing compares 2 U” was unbelievably emotional and one of the greatest songs in history. RIP Sinead - lovely lady.

Well said....but....some of us did know back then exactly what she was saying, and were also shouted down for supporting her. I grew up with her (I'm exactly the same age as her and come from the area she grew up in) and knew precisely what message she was conveying. I don't mean that in a bravado kind of way, just that for every 100 people or so she pissed off she also inspired at least one, like my humble self. And the truth always comes out in the end of course. She will never be forgotten here in Ireland and her work and words will live on eternally like Yeats, Beckett, Synge and Wilde. 💚
Ireland her country turned their back on her even when it came out that all Catholic priests were indeed perverts she said it first but nobody came out and said Sínead was right. Because Ireland didn’t recognise her and her mental health took a turn for the worse . Yes, especially today most late night interviews are short and superficial. Arsenio would allocate extra time for guests when appropriate. He’d sometimes even skip the opening monologue so they wouldn’t have to cut interviews short or drop guests.
Yep. He was very unappreciated at the time. Even criticized a lot. But he deserves huge credit for bringing so much talent onto TV screens across N. America. Talent that wasn't getting it's due on the usual shows. Edgy comedians, controversial musicians, metal bands, hip hop, and up and coming actors, directors etc...He was really great.

It really pisses me off how hated she was throughout her career for merely having the guts to stand up for what she believed was right. The record execs/pop media definitely spurred on the image that she was a crazy woman who needed to be silenced but the masses also ate it up. I remember she was massively unpopular after the SNL thing, celebrities like Sinatra and Joe Pesci called her a “brat” for “disrespecting the pope” when she was calling attention to institutionalized child abuse. She was perpetually painted as an ungrateful child or crazy when she should’ve been painted a hero for speaking truth. I wonder if she’d be more accepted if she’d come to fame in today’s cultural climate?
I am not sure where you got the idea she was calling to institutionalized child abuse, not that, that is not part of it. She was calling attention to the Catholic Churches crimes against women, and their influence in Ireland. Specifically the Catholic Laundries, of which she was sent to. The last Laundry closed in 1997. Women in Ireland were second class citizens, and basically with the influence and blessing of the church. Not sure if it is much better.

Yes, I always loved her and her music, I was in high school at the time and did not realize what a gift she was to the world. She was definitely ahead of her time. I met Sinead in wilmette Illinois later on in her life . She had put on weight and aged like we all did . I could see her pain 💔 in her gorgeous grey eyes and all that pain she endured lifelong. Many are unaware of the demons that tortured her . She was a beautiful mystical creature that was to fragile for this world yet strong and fierce to protect others . She was wearing a shapless grey dress and stradeling her bike that had a wicker basket full of fliwers and fruits and vegetables. At the farmers market. Unless you knew her like myself she blended in with the scenery. A beautiful fall day in illinois the smell of Halloween and an amazing human being. I will never forget

What's sad is that a lovely interview like this couldn't happen now, on both sides. Even Arsenio is charming and funny but they wouldnt allow him to say half his jokes here, and probably wouldn't allow this interview to happen without it being edited or guided through (earpiece and all). I think you've completely missed her point if you're suggesting that she should have "played the labels game." She became a legend by not playing a game made to exploit artists. She has even said herself that the backlash when she tore up the picture of the pope saved her from a pop celebrity status that she didn't want. She saw herself as a protest singer not a pop star. Arsenio was so important for the advocacy of counter-cultures. He brought on guests to speak about important issues that other talk shows would ignore. I think that's why so many artists preferred to talk with him over his competitors. It would be great to see him given this kind of platform again.

I still can't believe that Sinead O'Connor was in my Caribbean Studies class at North London University in 1996. She wasn't there for long, possibly 2 months. This is the first time I have ever heard this song and as an Irish person and a human being, I can say that my views and mentality are very similar to Sinead's. The song is a masterpiece and heaven has gained another angel.

It's rare when you hear a vocalist with perfect pitch, and the ability to inflect at so many levels of nuance, and carry it over verses. I can't send I've spent much time around opera, but that would probably be the first place I would fail to find a sound of grace.
Sinead has always been beautiful, considerate, passionate and kind hearted. She felt she had a voice and she spoke for those who didn't have a platform. I've loved her humility, her courage, her artistry, her boldness since the late 80s. I am saddened that she is now gone but hope she is at peace with her beloved son.

Well said....but....some of us did know back then exactly what she was saying, and were also shouted down for supporting her. I grew up with her (I'm exactly the same age as her and come from the area she grew up in) and knew precisely what message she was conveying. Yes, especially today most late night interviews are short and superficial. Arsenio would allocate extra time for guests when appropriate. He’d sometimes even skip the opening monologue so they wouldn’t have to cut interviews short or drop guests.

It really pisses me off how hated she was throughout her career for merely having the guts to stand up for what she believed was right. The record execs/pop media definitely spurred on the image that she was a crazy woman who needed to be silenced but the masses also ate it up. I remember she was massively unpopular after the SNL thing, celebrities like Sinatra and Joe Pesci called her a “brat” for “disrespecting the pope” when she was calling attention to institutionalized child abuse. She was perpetually painted as an ungrateful child or crazy when she should’ve been painted a hero for speaking truth. I am not sure where you got the idea she was calling to institutionalized child abuse, not that, that is not part of it. She was calling attention to the Catholic Churches crimes against women, and their influence in Ireland. Specifically the Catholic Laundries, of which she was sent to. The last Laundry closed in 1997. Women in Ireland were second class citizens, and basically with the influence and blessing of the church. Not sure if it is much better.

I met Sinead in wilmette Illinois later on in her life . She had put on weight and aged like we all did . I could see her pain 💔 in her gorgeous grey eyes and all that pain she endured lifelong. Many are unaware of the demons that tortured her . She was a beautiful mystical creature that was to fragile for this world yet strong and fierce to protect others . She was wearing a shapless grey dress and stradeling her bike that had a wicker basket full of fliwers and fruits and vegetables. At the farmers market. Unless you knew her like myself she blended in with the scenery. A beautiful fall day in illinois the smell of Halloween and an amazing human being. I will never forget

I think you've completely missed her point if you're suggesting that she should have "played the labels game." She became a legend by not playing a game made to exploit artists. I still can't believe that Sinead O'Connor was in my Caribbean Studies class at North London University in 1996. She wasn't there for long, possibly 2 months. She was in my singing class after the ripping up the Pope thing. She actually lived in the school (which was just a house) for quite some time with her son. She was homeless because she had given her house in LA away to charity. Her dad was also in the singing class. Lovely man.

It's rare when you hear a vocalist with perfect pitch, and the ability to inflect at so many levels of nuance, and carry it over verses. I can't send I've spent much time around opera, but that would probably be the first place I would fail to find a sound of grace.
