Prayers to your family. I just went through a similar situation with my mother in February-March. Paid mom a visit, two days later brought he to the ER. A week in the hospital spending 14-18 hours with her everyday. Mom was inoperable. Brought her back to her home instead of assisted living. With COVID I would not have been able to visit her. So with mom on hospice I moved in with her and was with her when she passed. My moms last words to me were “ Hold my hand”.
Condolences for your beloved mother. I can’t imagine dealing with her illness on top of the pandemic. May she find bliss and happiness forever to come. At least she went by being surrounded by the love of family. Thanks for sharing
That’s precious though, although painful, I would love to pass from this world while holding one of my children’s hands. Not a lot of people get to go out like that. I’m sure it meant an immeasurable amount to her and brought her incredible peace.
I've told my mom "love ya" a bunch of times, but I don't remember when I really thanked her for anything last time. I'll do so tonight. Prayers to your family and take care.
Damn man. I can't imagine. My Mum means the world to me, I don't know what I'd do without her. I wish you and your Mum all the best. Time to go give my Mum a hug.
Your story makes me glad that I took my dad out trout fishing at least once and had my mom cook it at the campsite. The fishing was unforgettable and the trout never tasted so good. I would have never went out for a catch and cook if it wasn't for you
You're such a smart, friendly and genuine person. This has to be one of my favorite videos of yours and you didn't even catch a fish. That says a lot about why people connect to your channel. It's not only about what you do, it's about how you are. Peace, my friend. My thoughts are with you.
Man, I couldn't understand it any better, I went through the exactly same story with my dad. One day he had kinda stroke, one week later we found out he had this grade 4 gliobastoma tumor in his brain. We fought together as a family for 2 years and as you said: it's way too hard to see this member of your family like powering off each day. Finally my dad past away on my birthday so, I send you all my positive energy left that I built during all this process. I'm a big fan, for a long time and thanks to my dad because he liked and he tought me how to fish. In his honor, I wish you the best, always my friend. From Chile with love 🇨🇱
I'm sorry to hear about your mom, Life can really throw curveballs at you. It's amazing that you're still posting videos, I love what you do. It makes life feel less chaotic to watch you wander through the woods catching fish and camping.

Matt, I can relate. Currently taking care of my father who's 93 and on Hospice. You would think they would actually take care of people, but it all falls back on just one person= Me. Glad you have a sister to assist so you can take a break from the stress and go out in nature. "I bless you man". Life has many struggles. We seem to some how make it through them. Keep smiling.
@Mark Hepworth As someone that works in hospitals, I agree but time and a place man. It's like if someone came to your dad's funeral and began just starting political drama with people for no reason. Even with good benefits and insurance, if hospitals are understaffed they're not bending over backwards to help a patient in hospice when there are other patients coding or if they're spiraling. Even the best long term care facility will have patients stewing in their own poop for hours because they only have like 2 aides for the whole facility and a handful of nurses for over 100 patients. Employers know this is borderline criminal and that understaffing floors will reduce quality of care and in turn may harm many patients but they don't care because it saves money and adds to profit margin. The fact that hospitals refuse to give out like a measly 2% raise that actually is a decrease in pay if calculating inflation but will pay nearly 5x as much for travel contracts kinda shows how broken the system is (and why nurses are all quitting for travel contracts) While healthcare for all will absolutely help many people who cannot afford insurance, premium insurance will always be better for an individual if they can afford it and it doesn't magically solve all the problems people think it will.
@Mark Hepworth why bring political bs into a video that has NOTHING to do about politics... cmon man, theres a time and place. mentions his dad on hospice and lifes struggles... and you bring politics into it.. smh
Im so sorry to hear about your mother, my father suddenly passed away of a heart attack about a month ago. He was 45 years old and very healthy, and was the best dad I could ever asked for. My one regret was not telling him "I love you" one last time, I am praying for you, your mother and your family. May god help you and your family through this hard time
Matt, our thoughts and prayers are with your mom, you, and your family. My wife and I discovered your channel last year and love the content. We watch EVERY new video without fail. We cheered the "Fisherman's Life" festival and hope to experience it in person next time. As such, we feel like family. Much love to your mom, you, and yours, brother. Truly.
My dad was recently diagnosed with cancer. He's had to go through a few surgeries since, luckily it hasn't spread and the doctors are optimistic. Hopefully your mother comes out of this OK. Stay strong.🙏👍
My mom had stage 4 breast cancer and wasn’t given much time to live. That was in 2012 and she’s now in remission and doing great. Keep your hopes up and stay optimistic. I am praying for the same outcome for you, your mother and family are in my thoughts. God bless
My Prayers and Thoughts are with you are you're Family. Let's start a goFund me for her. The Fights not over until the Bell rings. STAY STRONG BROTHER, and don't forget, you are not alone.

You don’t deserve a lot of the misfortune that’s been handed your way matts, i can’t imagine how hard this is for you. I’m glad you were able to get away during all this
Stay strong man. Seeing family get old and getting sick hits deep. It’s one of my biggest fears when I see my parents becoming old. May god be with u and you family!
Really good message bro “leave nothing unsaid”. Been watching for years and seriously, mad respect for you. My pops beat cancer last year, yours moms can do it too.
Thanks for posting this video. Lost my mom this year. Not asking for sympathy, just processing. I think the blessings are that we have had Them in our journey. Good times and bad times. Thanks Creator for letting me appreciate this. Forward. Be well .
Sorry to hear about your mom man. My mother passed away suddenly in her sleep less than a month ago. I talked to her on the phone for about an hour the day prior to that, but I still get emotional thinking about how impatient I was getting with her this past year when she couldn't hear me on the phone and stuff. Don't say anything you might regret soon. I am wishing you the best and miracles happen brother. I'll pray
Don't beat yourself up over that last year, I hear you brother but think of it as a lifetime and I'm sure you were a good son to her. I know how it is and you always think of what you could have said or done, and how they were at the end, but you should celebrate the life you shared with her.
Sorry man, that is tough, been through it myself, my mom passed 5 years ago, ovarian cancer, long story short I watched her die in a hospital bed, last words she said to me was me and my brother were the best thing that happened to her, I wish we had more time, to express what she meant to us. Life can really suck sometimes. In the end you're right, tell the people who mean the most to you how you feel while they are happy and healthy, not when your time here on earth is almost over.
Just want to say thank you man. RUclipsrs often change and start doing gimmicky shit but you've been a solid rock on this platform for a long time now it seems. I know anytime I just want to relax and enjoy something about one of my favorite hobbys I can always count on you. Obviously I'm not the only one that thinks this too. So even though life isnt ideal right now you can at least take a little joy from the fact you're out here making peoples days just a little better and I'm sure your parents are beyond proud to have a son that is constantly making a positive impact on peoples lives and making this crazy world just that much more tolerable to be in. Appreciate you
I can hear the sadness in your voice and it breaks my heart... praying for your mother, you and your family. Best wishes to your family. I know we are all just people behind a screen but I know you have some genuine subscribers who care. Always focus on yourself and your loved ones. Your fans will always be there for you.
My dad got his third stroke a month ago. I've been at the hospital every day playing Cambodian music and showing my love him. Keep up with the videos. Love how you allow us to be in your life.
People typically use social media to promote only the good things. Your honesty is refreshing and the fact that you share personal tribulations helps myself and many others put their own problems into perspective. Saying a prayer for your mom and your family tonight. Thanks for keeping it real, you have a lifetime supporter over here man. God bless ❤️
Brother Matts ....... the comments made about your mom are spot on. We'll keep her in our prayers my friend. Thank you for Fishing On through these tough times. Your videos bring a Peace to many of us and help us get through our rough patches. Thanks again. Peace.
Prayers to you, your mom, and your family. My mom died two years ago, and my dad passed away last June. You are right about leaving nothing unsaid and appreciating the people that mean the most to you.
Blessings, love your videos I'm glad I found your channel. I'm a born and raised NorCal girl now living in the beautiful finger lakes in NY.. Fishin is my passion and thank you for the much missed scenery of my old home brother! ❤️
Wishing you the best Matt. All of your videos make my day so I hope that you and your family get over these tough times. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family!!
a few years ago me and my family went through the exact same situation with my grandfather and i just want to say youre not alone. i truly hope you get that miracle. love from PA
Sorry to hear the news. I’m going through the same thing with my mom except she has stage 4 bone cancer. It’s hard to watch them without being able to do anything to help them other then keep them comfortable. Just stay as positive as you can for her
I´m sorry to hear about your mother. You bring a lot of joy and amusement into my life and I´m sure I´m not the only one and the fact that you even think about posting in these tough times is really amazing to me. I hope your ma gets better, I really do.
I was 12 years old when I found out my mom had cancer. She died August 30, 2006. Feels like a hundred lifetimes away since it happened. I still remember her well, I remember almost everything about her thankfully. I cherish the memories and relatives I have to share them with and have moved on but you never really move on. I do know more people though that have lived through cancer and caught it early unlike my mom who caught it very late. Always have hope man trust me you aren't a fool for having hope.
I am very sorry to hear about your mom. I pray that God performs a miracle and completely heal her of this situation. I am glad you are taking time to ensure you are well also. Thanks for your positive and entertaining content. Take care of yourself and family.
Thank you for the advice. You have been a great help to me for the past few years whether it’s dealing with loss or simply learning fishing techniques. I would love to meet you someday and have a real conversation. Best of luck to your mom.
I'm so sorry to hear about your mom, Matt. 🙏 Cherish every last moment you have with her even if that means taking time away from your videos. Your viewers will understand!
You don't need to ask for sympathy when people appreciate you. They will automatically show support. It would be stellar to see you do a catch and cook for your mom. I always think about doing things for my mom but she passed away 13 years ago at 50 yrs old.
I here you. Lost my mom - seems like yesterday - in 1994 to cancer. So many things I wish I had said to her. At the time she was diagnosed, I was at peak career - too busy to pay attention to what was going on with her health. What I would give for a few more minutes with her just to sit and talk. Have lunch. Anything. You hit the nail on the head.
Need to look into a safariland retention holster. Also, ditch the lures for river mountain trout. Need yourself some Pautzke green lid salmon eggs and 1 or 2 spit shots and drift in the current. Slams river trout everytime! Also, that was a squawfish.
Prayers to your mom and your family. My dad loves the fish I catch for him even though they're dinks. My daughter also loves catching for him. It helps him with his own battles especially when just the simple act of eating becomes the greatest battle for the day. Thanks to the inspiration from you and the other bay area fishermen. You guys do more than you think by inspiring and teaching through your channels.
Hey brother, Your story sounds like mine. Lost my dad about 10 yes ago. He got me into fishing. Lost my mom to Cancer. Hardest thing I have ever been through. I'm moved from the States to a small island in the north Pacific. I fish a couple times a week. I have found that I enjoy time by myself like never before. Fishing gives me peace and calm that I need. Love the outdoors alone. Your videos always give me a contentment! Thank you! I wish you comfort and better health for your mom.
I’m sure your mom is hella proud of you, I hope everything goes well in the coming weeks. It’s never an easy thing to go through, keep your head up man.
That fish is a northern pikeminnow. Invasive species, totally taken over lots of the food source for trout here in Oregon. *edit* not invasive, just a nuisance
So sorry to hear about your Mom Matts. Wishing her and your family all the best healing and support for her recovery. Stay strong and I know you will come through it all. Always let your loved ones know how special they are and how much you love them. Lost too many in my life, including my Dad & Mom, so I always say, "I love you" to those I can.
Matts honey, Many, if not all of us here, are praying for a miraculous healing and recovery for your mom. Please take care of her, your sister, and yourself. Many Blessings

I just love these catch, camp and cook videos.. even when u don’t catch anything. So enjoyable to watch especially these story time. I pray for your mom’s healing 🙏 and strength and blessings to your entire family. ❤️
i used to go deep to a remote fishing area too. never thought about the dangerous. i felt danger but it never occurred to me that it could be emergency. that time no cell phone just flash light. i didnt even bring water. i would fish all day and night without drinking water. i look back now and thats crazy
That's not good, I understand Matt, I lost my parents, my father at 9 and my mother at 18 from cancer. And I agree say what you need too, cry and say anything. I have unleft things said, I'm 30 now. And I'm sorry but I'm not one to bullshit anymore. No miracles. Be there as much as possible bro. If I could go back in time...to tell myself to stop pretending things will be OK and to visit my dad or mother more while they were in care. I would have. I miss them so much I still cry if I think about it too much. I have regrets I can't forgive myself for even tho I'm aware it's not my fault. Ps don't make videos then, but please, your community cares so just leave messages or something to let us know your doing alright mentally and hanging in there.
Prayers to you and your family...My dad went for a regular check up a 6 years ago. Found a softball size tumor on one of his kidneys. Docs removed tumor and that kidney. He turned 75 in January and hasn't missed a beat. I know it wasn't on his brain but the power of prayer can work wonders. We'll keep you and your family in our prayers. Stay safe and God Bless my friend...My 6 year old just said a special prayer for your family and especially your mom in his bedtime prayers.
My mother died of lymphatic cancer on Oct 29 2021 and I am still trying to wrap my head around it. So, I endorse your message. And, time in the outdoors and fresh, quality food certainly helps. :)
I feel for you. My father was committed to a hospital. Now he is in physical therapy. They dont know how much longer he has. After years of hating him for so much. I had to put things aside cause he is my father. I had multiple days I am not myself and nature always helps.
I remember meeting you, your wife, and Daniel at Outdoor Pro Shop! I was carrying my one year old son at the time. Time sure flies! I hope that the trip and the time away helped you feel better. Stay up bro and great tip on leaving nothing unsaid. We just don’t know how much time we all have on this earth. 🙏
When we are in the forest and we stop talking we can here God whispering to us. You are right leave nothing unsaid to your loved ones.God bless you and your family during this trying time as he brings your mother home to be with him and you father.
Sorry to hear that I've been through similar and it's really tough. Best wishes and thoughts towards you, your mom and family! Thanks for always uploading and making our days better through us watching your videos and adventures!
Man you are literally the channel that brought me to RUclips... Couple years ago I was alone and going thru some stuff but I remember you being one of the very first channels I actually subscribed to and I went back to watch every single one of your videos. It's been a journey and a great pleasure going on all these adventures with you!! Much love to you and your family!!
You've touched and moved alot of people with you amazing adventures. I've personally learned alot from you about fishing. Watching your videos is the reason I got into flyfishing. Family first. Wish your moms, family, and you the best. Prayers 🙏
Same thing happen to my mother. Found out in 2008. She passed Dec 2nd 2021. She fought like hell. Something told me to watch this video. Brought out a tear. Stay strong. Keep your head up brother. Been a fan for a few years now. Keep moving forward. Shout out your wife for giving you time alone to be with your thoughts. I know it helps.
Matts - thanks for taking us along on your getaway & for sharing your insight. you & your sis are helping more than you know by providing comfort & care. the rest is up to the universe. hang in there & know that your audience and community you’ve cultivated will be here for you & will always hope for the best.

Just stay as positive as you can for her
Wishing the best with your family. Thankyou for sharing and hope you get the support you need.
I´m sorry to hear about your mother. You bring a lot of joy and amusement into my life and I´m sure I´m not the only one and the fact that you even think about posting in these tough times is really amazing to me. I hope your ma gets better, I really do.
Totally agree.
This man is like bob Ross when it comes to fishing, never asks viewers for anything always positive and calm. Keep up good work!!!!
you sir are lacking in BUTTER!! helps with anxiety....true story
maybe healthy fats in general but he does eat a lot of fish, magnesium helps with anxiety but there's a lot also in a pescatarian diet.
Bro
@@kristibeisecker pescatarian is too much toxins from plants = inflamation and depression, animal based with high fat is the teets
Matt, I'm so very sorry about your Mom. Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way. Peace, my friend.
That’s a course fish, pike minnow, formerly known as a Squafish.
Will always be commonly known as Squawfish.
Sorry to hear that bro. Praying for your mom. Hang in there great content bro
Excellent video! Thanks for sharing
I'm so sorry to hear about your mom, Matt. 🙏 Cherish every last moment you have with her even if that means taking time away from your videos. Your viewers will understand!
nice message about your mom and dad
You don't need to ask for sympathy when people appreciate you. They will automatically show support. It would be stellar to see you do a catch and cook for your mom. I always think about doing things for my mom but she passed away 13 years ago at 50 yrs old.
Yes I support him too
Life is so fleeting. Prayers to your mom.
God bless your mum. Thanks for sharing your life with us.
Need to look into a safariland retention holster. Also, ditch the lures for river mountain trout. Need yourself some Pautzke green lid salmon eggs and 1 or 2 spit shots and drift in the current. Slams river trout everytime!
Also, that was a squawfish.
I was thinking the same thing, i fish trout in Georgia and catch the majority of them on red salmon eggs drifting.
Trout can't resist eggs.
@HahThatsWhatSheSaid never had them. Anytime I've caught them I've cut em up used for bait.
alot of rivers have rules against bait sadly. many only you allow you to use artificial lures
aka pikeminnow it was a good one
God Bless you and your sister taking care of your mom. Thank you for sharing.
Hey brother,
Your story sounds like mine.
You are a legend and a true inspiration. Thank you for the countless hours of knowledge and entertainment
That fish is a northern pikeminnow. Invasive species, totally taken over lots of the food source for trout here in Oregon.
*edit* not invasive, just a nuisance
Yes.
Damn he shouldn't have tossed it back
Creek chub
Pikeminnow are actually native. Not invasive. They are just over populated.
Many prayers for you and your family. Sorry for your loss.
We've travelled a very similar road my friend and I pray that your mom wins her fight. Continue to make the most of everyday...
Matts honey,
Many, if not all of us here, are praying for a miraculous healing and recovery for your mom.
Please take care of her, your sister, and yourself.
Many Blessings
Yes you’re right friend
Your mom and dad raised a wonderful and humble person. I would like to thank them for that. They’ll always be with you.
I love the mountain wilderness fishing, I hope you make more like this
My compadre, a retired sheriff deputy. Who once patrolled the San Bernardino mounts. Was quite specific about what you must carry if you’re going to hike there. Besides your backpack and gear always carry a firearm. Preferably a revolver.
My mom is turning 50 today and you really inspired me to give that little bit of extra care for her today, thank you Matt!
Many blessings
Great place to unwind.
Wishing you the best Matts, glad to see you getting some solo time.
I just love these catch, camp and cook videos.. even when u don’t catch anything. So enjoyable to watch especially these story time. I pray for your mom’s healing 🙏 and strength and blessings to your entire family. ❤️
If you are traveling into the wilderness alone you need to carry a “PLB”- Personal Locator Beacon. Thanks, love you all.
i used to go deep to a remote fishing area too. never thought about the dangerous. i felt danger but it never occurred to me that it could be emergency. that time no cell phone just flash light. i didnt even bring water. i would fish all day and night without drinking water. i look back now and thats crazy
What would Davey Crocket thought of all you snowflakes and w/e campers
One of the best channels for sure. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us.
17:11 you caught a pike minnow...they can grow super big in that river. Like 20 plus inches
Are they good eating? Surprised he let it go
are they good eating?
My son caught one probably close to 36 inches
@@tai9499 they are super invasive and your supposed to kill them whenever you catch them. Idk about California tho
@@LatelyDrowsy they are not invasive They are native to California. Called California Pike Minnow or squad fish
Imagine being on “alone” the show for 100 days! The winners have mental stamina like none other.
Or they've already snapped a bit
It's normal to be alone. Unfortunately society has made that notion foreign to us.
@@nine9090. living in communities is fundamental to our evolution, but ya being alone for a while never hurt anybody.

Man you are literally the channel that brought me to RUclips... Couple years ago I was alone and going thru some stuff but I remember you being one of the very first channels I actually subscribed to and I went back to watch every single one of your videos.
So beautiful nice and peaceful !
Introspection is a good thing to catalog your memories when a loved one or family member passes on. Keep doing what makes you feel comfortable during this time.
Godspeed.
Hugs to you and family. You are so right.
Dude, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. Nature is such a great way to cope with these events, and I hope you are hanging in there!
