Recently retired warden here California penal code 25640 describes the exemption to the prohibition of concealed carry of a firearm for licensed hunters and anglers. So while fishing, concealed carry by a licensed angler is legal. I always recommend an angler print a copy of that exemption and keep it with them because I have found many deputies/police/CHP are not aware of that exemption. Additionally, while on federal land avoid carrying into any structure of any kind.
Matts, no need for one in the chamber most of the time. Pulling the slide takes a fraction of a second but leaving it out of the chamber makes the firearm much safer if you were to take a spill on your bike or slip and get banged up in the rapids. Just my two cents. I also carry while in the bush.

I use the Hard Cast Flat Nose rounds in Idaho while in the woods; Hollow points may work on a bear without a fat layer (such as right out of their den in the Spring) but otherwise the hollow point will splatter the fat layer and may not not penetrate into anything vital... and it really aggravates the bear! I really like the copper Lehigh projectile that is loaded by Underwood. You have the best cinematography of any RUclips sports channel... your layout and angles with your drone are the best. Thank you!
Agreed... I carry the G40 10mm longslide with the underwood ammo up here in Idaho as well. Even with the longer barrel of the G40 I wouldn't trust hollow points to get through and stop a charging bear. 10mm is already on the low end of bear defense....better to shoot over penetration than under when a bear is determined to put the hurt on ya.

The blood line you reference is actually the kidney of the fish. I've spent over 40 years romping through forest and wilderness areas in the West and have never felt the need to carry a firearm for safety. All of the bears I have encountered have tucked tail as soon as they realize you are there and the only lion I've seen is when it crossed the road in front of me. I'll carry bear spray in some areas like in Grizzly country. I only time I carry a gun in the woods is when I hunt.
I was fishing Lake Mary at Mammoth lakes 4 years ago. Upon returning to the parking lot a Sheriff was there and saw I was wearing my Colt .45 Combat Commander. He laughed and said, why the gun? There’s no bears here! I told him it’s not for bears, and he said, what’s it for? I said to him, have you ever seen the movie Deliverance?
Never let anyone make you think you're wrong for protecting yourself. It is about respecting it and learning how to use it, both of which you have done. Cheers.

This is our favorite hunting grounds so I know exactly where this. It's a short hike down but it's uphill all the way back up. So beautiful traveling that wilderness, all to yourself & working that river, I gotta hand it to you bro...Balls of steel traveling on that road though....
Ok, love the videos Matt, and what a location! But as someone who has spent a great deal of time in the outdoors in true wilderness (bush Alaska). I am a little disturbed by how much emphasis urban dwellers place on firearms when venturing into the wild. Those things will only keep you safe if 1) you are trained and competent with the weapon and 2) you can keep your cool when encountering sudden danger. Almost everything in the wild including bears and mountain lions will want to avoid humans so take your gun but don't be nervous up there. Also, get someone to teach you motocross skills such as how to navigate your bike safely downhill in rough terrain. Believe it or not, the Front brake is the most important! Gloves and good footwear as well as a helmet will protect you in a crash. You can take that stuff off while you're fishing. That said, best of luck on your adventures.
dude.. having that natural stone table to cook on and even as a plate to put your food on... fucking legit man. you should still buy like 3 more of those pocket knives and stash them all over... and the leectric bike is really interesting i cant wait to see more about it all
Me and my pops fished with crickets for many years they work extremely well for trout . Btw thanks for the info on open carry ive been googling like crazy on it ! 🎉
Just a little advice, always keep the same type of ammo throughout the mag, switching rounds up like this will likely cause a jam and that is something you don’t want when running into a grizzley .
When you hold the minus button and the bike is in peddle assist 1 or above the bike will go into walk mode into you take your finger off the minus button. This helps to walk up steep hills instead of feathering the throttle

Fisher on!!! just decided to let you know since 2018,I've noticed in past videos, the bigger catch just somehow happens to come your way, without you even trying to impress. From the small boat to the medium sized upgrade out on sea to fishing and cooking with others on the channel..🙃 it's your gift ✨ you have the ability to attract decent to great catches with ease and you also kept me through the covid era (with my other yt account)..just taught I'd let you know that dude, you are the golden catch 🪝.okay I'm gonna go back to watching you in silence 🤐 again.peace
🌅🌅🌅🌅🌅🙌🙌🙌🙌💚
Wild trout tastes better than farm raised trout. I've caught wild trout in Yosemite and Strawberry. Awesome catch and cook on the trout. I've tried using the crickets🦗 when I was fishing in Lake Camanche and the trouts were not biting it either. Nightcrawlers will guarantee a fish bite. Awesome post! 🤙🏽
Just so you know it’s illegal to keep rainbows in Yosemite
@@Sweedurbex depends on where and what time of the year. The Merced which runs through Yosemite has a take limit and a gear restriction for only certain times of year
@@Sweedurbex in the park. Most locals fish just outside park boundaries and still refer to it as Yosemite. Fyi
@@jessesilva4768 yes you can keep rainbows from foresta Rd downstream to lake McClure on the Merced river.
@@jessesilva4768 well inside the park boundary there is a zero bag limit on rainbow trout and barbless hooks
Hey brother, I love your content! I just want to give you props for looking your weapon into the holster EVERY time. That is a phenomenal habit and a good safety measure. No one has ever won a gunfight by holstering quickly. Come back up here and create more PNW content soon!
What if someone was leaving as you were coming ? I'll be scared trying to backup. I'm scared of heights.
the person going up hill has right of way, so you have to go back to the last turn out.
@@warchitect73 easier said then done on that road.
10mm. Ahh a man of culture
Why shouldn't people carry while in the wild? 4 legged predators aren't the only ones out there to worry about.
A herd of deer I don’t know what you would call a herd of deer
YOU CALL IT A HERD OF DEER!! 😂😂
dude.. having that natural stone table to cook on and even as a plate to put your food on... fucking legit man. you should still buy like 3 more of those pocket knives and stash them all over... and the leectric bike is really interesting i cant wait to see more about it all
Was going to ask about the chest rig holster. thanks for including it in the description sir
the reason I like to carry concealed is to not offend anyone.
The exact reason to open carry
Just found your tube.
I left Cali for Montana a year ago.
I’ll keep watching.
Me and my pops fished with crickets for many years they work extremely well for trout . Btw thanks for the info on open carry ive been googling like crazy on it ! 🎉
I walked that trail down to the river a few years back while hunting. Bears sometimes use that car as a den.
The level up of this channel brings the happiest tear to my eye. Yet depending on the bear dude you should consider a high caliber rifle.
Mann bro glad your still doing your thing
Your the First Fisherman that I have ever seen fishing with an exposed hook and catching fish..
Just a little advice, always keep the same type of ammo throughout the mag, switching rounds up like this will likely cause a jam and that is something you don’t want when running into a grizzley .
There are no grizzlies in CA
Absolutely beautiful place Matts, that would be a dream to be there. Hope you had a wonderful time 🤗
Absolutely gorgeous fishing spot!
You make great videos. They’re my favorite fishing videos. You’re a very brave man driving on the road to your destination.
When you hold the minus button and the bike is in peddle assist 1 or above the bike will go into walk mode into you take your finger off the minus button. This helps to walk up steep hills instead of feathering the throttle
