@Faustinus Karyadi Well in India, Facebook was pretty much popular. Even kids of 13 years had one until the entrance of WhatsApp. Only after that we saw rise of other social media networks as well like Instagram. WhatsApp is so much popular here that we are seeing ripoffs like hike messenger.
@@Rex-zm7xb WhatsApp reigns on MESSAGING in Kenya... Most mobile communication companies offer some form of free WhatsApp or extremely cheap WhatsApp-only data package ($0.05/day). Normal data is also available at affordable prices and internet connectivity is one of the highest in Africa.
I’m from Brazil and literally EVERYONE uses WhatsApp for EVERYTHING around here. A few years ago I asked an American friend whether she had it on her phone, and she said “oh no, we don’t use it, we just use regular text message” and I was like... what?????
Texting? As someone that manages a business, Whatsapp is a fantastic tool here in Brazil. In seconds I can talk to groups of people, providers, clients, customers, it has business information at the card of the number, it can be used directly in the browser for various employees when needed. You can make calls when you have WiFi but don't have a good signal, you can video call, etc... Texting is far behind.
"we don't travel" is kinda a weird reason not to use WhatsApp. You message your friends and family over WhatsApp, why should you only use it because of traveling?
Yeah! I find that to be a strange justification for not using WhatsApp. I don’t have a single friend abroad and still use it. Even my boss communicates with his employees over Whatsapp.
Sending text and calling across countries in other parts of the world is expensive AF but with whtsapp its free as long as you are connected to the internet
I think traveling encourages people to use WhatsApp or other messengers instead of texting. Texting requires a phone number but you don't have to download any app to use it. But once you start traveling, you don't want to pay roaming fees for texting abroad. So then you're motivated to download and use WhatsApp.
Ikr. Most of the people I know don't use WhatsApp cuz they are Iphone users, and they say Imessage is good enough for them, and most of Android users like me use WhatsApp cuz it's way better than using regular sms. But still I don't think this is the right answer, it might be a reason but Idk
I’m an American that has been using WhatsApp since 2012. I am also a cultural traveler who now has families in every country I’ve visited (15 at the moment).
But you're also an American (from american continent). Why the USA citizens think the own the word "Americans"? America uses WhatsApp except the USA😁😁😁
Literally. When I travel to Europe, everyone either had WhatsApp it Facebook Messenger, or occasionally just Instagram DMs as a last resort. Because WhatsApp works with both WiFi and cellular, unlike international roaming or whatever (which again costs an arm, a foot, and a kidney) it's seamless conversing with people regardless of the country. Then again, if someone has an iPhone then the default is to use iMessage, which I guess most Americans have done
maybe because most of the people don't have iPhone? when I had iphone I used it a lot, but could only use it with 2-3 people due to not many having iPhones
@@Inominifia yeah sure if Latinos there would even know their language would understand that it doesn't make sense for us Spanish speakers because unlike English in Spanish there exists a gender differential on words
What kind of bs reason if “texting is fast and cheap”? This is also true for most European countries and in all of those WhatsApp is still the most used chatting app.
the real reason is imessage. whatsapp is way better than sms, but most of the americans used iphones and they had imessage which is not so bad provided that they have unlimited sms plans.
@@ritwikreddy5670 that's why Americans try to force their friends to have iPhones. If you use WhatsApp it doesn't matter because it works with both Apple and Android
What does that has to do with this? It's a video ofan American making a video about why Americans don't use a certain app. It's not like he said that these other countries shouldn't use WhatsApp, or that we're better than them for not using it. What are you referring to?
It was a culture shock to me when 4 years ago I asked my aunt about spotify and she was like ”what’s spotify” she has lived in the states for 15+ years now. And apparently, at least at that time, they didn’t use spotify in the US. Mind blowing considering how many different countries use it.
What? Spotify has been popular in the US for a long time. I've personally been using it since 2009. Pandora had a huge market share for years but that has slowly dwindled with Spotify taking over.
Please do not say “Latinx”. I am a latino and I find offensive to be called “latinx” because that is not even a word in our language, it is just a made up word by other races. We Latin Americans do not get offended if you use the word “Latinos”. In fact, we are proud of being called like that.
Mophius TheOne because its a corruption of our language, the plural is masculine, Latinos, always is, always will be and the dumbass left in the US have no standing to try and change a language they most likely cant even speak

I'm an international traveller and simply couldn't do without WhatsApp. I recently moved to US from Asia and was shocked by how many people don't use it. You're right, a lot of Americans don't travel internationally and often don't have friends or family outside of the US. If they do they often just use Facebook messenger instead.
I as an American had never heard of WhatsApp until late 2015 and was hesitant on using it because when I did install it, there was a payment of ¢99 a month (didn’t have a job), and it was simply to talk to my friend who was from Saudi Arabia. I’ve been using it ever since. The average America typically uses Facebook Messenger, Snapchat, or basic Instagram DM’s, but alike what he said in the video, any of the average American who has no foreign or international relations (especially friends) will have never heard of WhatsApp.
@@ooogabooogaa This is a severely late comment, but, I know it’s free now. Although, when I first got WhatsApp, in 2015, it said that there was a cost of ¢99 a month, but that went away quickly 😅

Awakened Garou are you kidding me about security? The only thing it doesn’t have over Whatsapp is video calling. Other than that it kills Whatsapp in every feature department. And yes it doesn’t track you (since it’s not Facebook owned)

I can't think a good reason why Americans won't adopt a more convenient tool
People literally buy phones just to Whatsapp, they are so connected that people see as the same, smartphones = Whatsapp
Is like to find out that Americans don't know what Christmas are
"we don't travel" is kinda a weird reason not to use WhatsApp.
Because of high roaming fees.
I think traveling encourages people to use WhatsApp or other messengers instead of texting.
Texting requires a phone number but you don't have to download any app to use it.
But once you start traveling, you don't want to pay roaming fees for texting abroad. So then you're motivated to download and use WhatsApp.
If you don't need to then why do it?
