"Can you remember the number of times you've eaten bread?" "Thirteen I believe." This is my new favorite runner. Absolute god-tier donation and he picked up on the joke.
There is no canon in Touhou, because the canon is whatever any individual player or fan wants it to be. Touhou canon is basically Shrodinger's Cat, everything is canon and nothing is at the same time, XD
I want to thank you Sean, I played this game immediately after watching your first 10 minutes, and just finished it. Fantastic game, one of my favourite platformer.
Is this really a fangame of touhou? The game devs also made an *official* game for both KonoSuba and Shin Megami Tensei. Did they start with this and then get recognition plus the rights to publish the game?
ZUN is extremely liberal with the rights to touhou and fan content. He's basically cool with you doing whatever as long as you don't literally take content or use assets for the game. And even for things that might do that all you have to do is ask permission and he'll probably give it to you. Because of this touhou as a series has more fan content than actual content though, so an easy way to tell whether something is "official" is if it's developed by or in cooperation with Team Shanghai Alice (Zun's doujin circle). e.g. 東方紅魔郷 ~ the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil is an official game commonly refereed to as EOSD and was developed by TSA, but 東方幕華祭 (TouHou Makuka Sai) ~ Fantastic Danmaku Festival is a fan game not developed by TSA. There are also several fighting game spin offs developed in cooperation with Twilight Frontier that are official games. If you want a more detailed explanation of the copyright behind touhou you can find an article on the touhou wiki with translated statements by ZUN.
Anything that isn't made by "Team Shanghai Alice" (basically ZUN by himself) is a fangame. ZUN has been noted to support all fan works as long as they don't do things like crowd funding simply because he feels that getting money for a game before it's released is kind of scummy. Most fangames also look a lot better than the official games except for the fighting games and the platformer, but that's because he outsources to the fans for assets and coding for those games (he doesn't have much coding experience outside of SHMUPs).
The best part is that Sakuya is canonically an "Aloof Psychopath" or "Snarky Kuudere". Why break the world when you can have very vigorous walks for the sole purpose to laugh at disgraced stage bosses?
My favorite Touhou? The star of our show here, Sakuya Izayoi/Flowering Night! She was, after all, the main draw for me to this game, between the art, her abilities, her music named for her, and finally her gameplay in Touhou Luna Nights. She was my catalyst to the entire franchise, and is still my favorite!
I don't see it. (Edit: I saw it, it's just an ever so slightly lighter shade of grey against the background, in her left hand, and you're right, the real Flan IS slightly lower than the fakes! I didn't notice that. And it 's easier to spot at a glance too...)
I don’t know what game this is or why it showed up in my recommended but this looks really fun, can someone tell what this game is called and where I can get it?
Heya! It's wonderful to see someone interested in it! The game is called Touhou Luna Nights, and you can find it on Steam. It's a fangame based off of the Touhou Project, which is a large multimedia project, which is essentially made by one guy. There are plenty of explanations of what it is, so I recommend looking up video explanations if you want to know more about it. Good luck!
Overcomplicated mechanics? Is it tho? For me, it was pretty easy to learn. There isn't any complicated spell to learn like Symphony of the Night (God it's so hard to trigger a few spells at the beginning) At least this game is pretty straightforward (one spell at all times for one button)
It looks overcomplicated but once you try the game, it's actually pretty easy to get used to and it eventually just feels natural. If you ever find it on sale on steam then it's definitely worth getting!
I don't think the runners ever talked about reverse boss order or why they do it. Is it any% that happens to be faster because of the reversed order? is it just a challenge category (do it because you can?)

The year is 2020 and I'm still not convinced that Touhou is a real franchise and not a collective hallucination.
What if it was all just a dream
I know what you mean. And I love it!
I mean, it technically is…
i wish it was
"Can you remember the number of times you've eaten bread?"
"Thirteen I believe."
This is my new favorite runner. Absolute god-tier donation and he picked up on the joke.
it's what marisa said in touhou 6 with remilia.
It's actually "Thirteen, I prefer Japanese food."
Marisa: I'll definitely defeat you now!
Sakuya: *Chainsaw.*
Marisa: What?
Sakuya: *Lots of Chainsaw.*
Marisa: Understandable, have a great night.
That Marisa fight: The moment you realize that you launched more projectiles than your opponent in a Touhou game.
"The lore is confused right now"
Serves you right, like touhou lore is not confusing enough.
Touhou lore is not confusing

@@brendansage6876Litterally false lmfao wtf are you saying
"ZA WARUDO"
Commences to throw hundreds of knives
I was waiting for the proverbial road roller
This was really cool to see. Loved the commentary too
I want to thank you Sean, I played this game immediately after watching your first 10 minutes, and just finished it. Fantastic game, one of my favourite platformer.
Yahoo, I love Touhou. Nice to see a run
Is this really a fangame of touhou?
The game devs also made an *official* game for both KonoSuba and Shin Megami Tensei.

Luna Nights is their most recent game AFAIK, and it's definitely a Touhou fangame.
They made a shin megami tensei game? If you don't mind my asking, which one?

@@Maestro_Gear Shin Megami Tensei: Synchronicity Prologue
20:45 that room took me an hour to beat with 100% items on my first playthrough and watching sean just walk past it makes me question reality
And as always Sakuya breaks the rules of the world with her powers, just like in the main series XD
The best part is that Sakuya is canonically an "Aloof Psychopath" or "Snarky Kuudere". Why break the world when you can have very vigorous walks for the sole purpose to laugh at disgraced stage bosses?
Ah yes, I definitely remember her wedging herself between her own time topped knives/yokai to clip through walls!
This speedrun got me into touhou. Thanks so much
:3c
I feel like this man is invalidating all of my time I had used playing this game.
yeah I was like wow the glitch travel is cool precise and all but let see how he fared against Reimu. And dem ! mind blown
*tip hat to the guy who said rin is his favorite
"It's basically a harmony of chainsaws" 17:27
This looks more complicated than an actual Touhou Project danmaku game.
Never thought id see a touhou run, even if its for a fangame
My favorite Touhou? The star of our show here, Sakuya Izayoi/Flowering Night! Ex Boss - The Highly Responsive to Chainsaws
Love the post-run fumo event
Didn't realize this game has the same visual style as cave story
Wooh I really need to get this game. It looks so cool and I love this games visual aesthetic and Sprite work.
First 1 second has two chairs full of Fumos
That's it, that's the best run
Reminds me of Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight
Same developer
@@quocvietophu1627 Bombservice developed Momodora, Team Ladybug developed Touhou Luna Nights. That's not the same developer.
Wait...Luna Nights at a GDQ...is exactly what I wanted!
*grabs popcorn from off screen*
The video convinced me to but this game and play others like it, thanks!
nice SOTN stairs just before the nitori fight
30:18 how does he get a recovery drink?!
Sakuya is my favourite, hands down. Liked her ever since i started playing touhou
just realised that the flashing lights on the timer are binary
Never thought I would see a touhou game in agdq2020
wow, I tried it when it got released and had a hard time with this.. great run.. :D
Welp i played this game and this speed run makes me look like a Chump
as i farmed So long to finish Reimu
Can't donate, but my favorite is Alice
such a good game
Really cool run.
Great run!
Nice run!
Touhou touhou was there!!!!
Wait the real Flan holding a spear? Oh i thought it was the one to lower closest to the ground, cause usually it work for me
I don't see it. (Edit: I saw it, it's just an ever so slightly lighter shade of grey against the background, in her left hand, and you're right, the real Flan IS slightly lower than the fakes! I didn't notice that. And it 's easier to spot at a glance too...)
Fascinating
Belmobt fight 16:40
I managed to do the clock tower bug thing but I didn't know how to go through the wall so I had to save and exit
I see this as a walkthrough
How did he heal at 30:19?
He grazed the cannonball
Wait, the expected level for the second to last boss is 11? I’m already level 23 and haven’t even beaten the second one yet-
Remind me SOTN
It's called Metroidvania for a reason
Isn't there a boss missing? The Ice Fairy (Cirno i think).
She's a midboss, so she apparently doesn't count.
She's only available on Extra Stage update
Flandre doesn't have a 1-HIT KO attack tho
i had no idea touhou had a cave story
Nice joke
Was this run done before Cirno was added to the game?
I think so, since Cirno was just added recently
Don't kill neko, neko!
The game is obviously inspired by Castlevania =3 Looks awesome
It's called Metroidvania for a reason
Nice
I don't know why but LN seems like harder than Touhou itself
37:24 fumo pile :)
My favourite 2hu is Yukari
What is TouHou? I thought it was a shmup
Games That I Play it is, this is just a fangame made using touhou characters. this isn’t a normal touhou game
You are correct, but this is a fangame.
This game is a fan game of that series.
it is
the main games are. this is a fan made side game.
Cool game but very short
Thought it was gonna be like 5 to 6 times as long as it was
Is it wrong that I watch commentary laced speedruns at 1.5x normal speed? Or is that a sort of homage?
I don’t know what game this is or why it showed up in my recommended but this looks really fun, can someone tell what this game is called and where I can get it?

man i love the art style of this game and how it's a metroid vania but the overcomplicated mechanics put me off.

Casually it's not really that complicated honestly
I mean, it's pretty much just putting yourself into as much danger without actually getting hit. It's way less hard to comprehend than it looks.
Overcomplicated in what way?
I don't think the runners ever talked about reverse boss order or why they do it. Is it any% that happens to be faster because of the reversed order? is it just a challenge category (do it because you can?)
Just like with Super Metroid's RBO run, it's just because you can. It's fun to break the game, and to do it as fast as possible.
I have never played a touhou game and I am deeply confused
Like the runner said, this is a fangame, the official Touhou games are bullet hell shooter
damn..........How to play with that. better i am gonna delete this difficult game. Thank you for saving my mental energy
what is this game platform PC?
PC, Xbox, and Switch
This... is a fan game?
Yes
Let's face it, this is the closest we are gonna get to a bullet hell game on GDQ.
The very same GDQ had one of the most infamous bullethells ran during it, they had Gusto playing it.
Touhou 9.5 was on GDQ, Touhou 6 was on another speedrun community
touhou
Ah yes touhou
