Thank you so much for having me GDQ! But I realize I was so concerned with hitting the zips, I forgot to explain how to do them. It gets very technical, so be warned! To perform the zip, you have to hold block for 126 frames, and then tap walk for exactly 7 frames. In other words, you must both press and release walk frame perfectly. The reason that this causes a zip is because then your blocking animation will loop and start again at the same time that you transition back from walking to standing still. These two animations overlapping like this cause the zip. In addition to these frame perfect inputs, you will only zip if you keep a perfectly stable 60.0002327 frames per second. If you drop even a fraction of a frame, the zips don't work. That is why zips are only in the "unrestricted" category, and not the regular any%, because they are hardware dependent. There are some other things I could talk about with zips, like you can get different distances with different equip loads or different inputs, but hopefully that satisfies some curiosities.
Did you have to bring your own PC to GDQ to do the run, then? Since it's not reliable if the GDQ PCs would be compatible with zips. I remember the zips actually getting banned after somebody proved it was hardware reliant but I don't remember the details of that lol.
This was fantastic. Great speedrun! I love learning about these game through speedruns even though I will never be a speedrunner myself - so fun to see and learn the mechanics of it all
what ARE the zips? Guy seems to just stand in one place...with a metronome...and suddenly teleport across the map? They haven't explained it after 4 of them or so
We don‘t really know why exactly they work but you essentially try to have the idle block animation loop and on the frame it would restart its loop/animation again you input a slow walk to override the start of the loop. There are a lot of technical requirements (60fps+ etc.) to perform them. But most importantly the input of the slow walk is a frame perfect input.
It's actually pretty simple. With certain equipment sets, and by wiggling around your character in a specific way at a specific moment during the player's idling animation, there's a glitch where the player's model briefly overlaps with itself. Of course when two objects get stuck the game resolves this by teleporting both objects a distance apart from one another, but because the two objects are attached to you, it keeps teleporting and teleporting and teleporting you, as teleporting is doing nothing to help solve the issue. Eventually the player's model just unsticks itself as the animation plays. But by that point you're pretty much halfway across the map.
I'm not sure about the exact numbers but essentially blocking and then moving forward for a very precise number of frames causes the game to just send you flying. The metronome is just there so that he can better time the actions cuz they're super precise
is it just me or was the tech not explained? Like, it was kind of explained, but I'm not sure what he's inputting or why it zoomies you all the way to Bloodborne 2
2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv is probably the best game I ever played. Sucked, it got renamed to Elden Ring not long after. 2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv is just a way better name.
It is crazy to think that the person who found this glitch somehow hit the overlapping animation frame on accident, had the perfect hardware to pull it off, had the right equipment load, had to be standing in a very specific spot to land a jump in a far side of the map in order to spawn the boss and swing the sword in a specific time frame so the boss can die before you do and all of this to work consistently. The odds are so slim and the dedication so immense that I can't appreciate speedrunners enough for their efforts in perfecting this move, even better for a great cause.
"Runner introduction starts at x Run starts at x Commentary is provided by x x is host" love this dont punish whoever missed this honest mistake! We are all human!
Man. This is kinda cool in universe. Imagine a character who has a power that can basically make them teleport anywhere they want and teleport you out of the universe, but the downside is that they have to do it so perfectly that it’s ok the edge of what is even possible or they die, and they have to do it right in front of you. The ultimate risk reward skill
it's funny that this video of all the videos was the one to have a mishap, cus elden ring is such a popular game there'll be tens of thousands of ppl later on wondering what on earth the comments are talkin about
You press and release forward at the same time the block animation loops. The actual inputs are, hold block for two seconds, then press forward for ten frames. The forward press has a 4-10 frame window but the release is frame perfect.
I hate this speed run. It really is the exact opposite of what makes speed runs of souls games fun to watch. it gives me an empty feeling. Not hating on the runner as the technical side is impressive but the fun part for me is watching mastery over bosses not one tech that gets you to the end screen of the game.
I think glitch speedruns are way cooler than playing the game really well speedruns, but that's my opinion. But that's why there's different categories in speedrunning anyway
AGDQ 2024 is live right now! Tune in to watch at www.twitch.tv/gamesdonequick

Nice run Mitch! Thanks for fun commentary ❤
Is this also why one of the boss fights is a bit harder because you might have a frame drop during that time?
thanks for posting this! awesome run, you nailed a lot of the early zips and it was impressive to see!
Top tier run Mitch :) So glad that the ER community restricted these from any% haha. Very cool as a tech showcase, but not terribly entertaining xD
Did you have to bring your own PC to GDQ to do the run, then? Since it's not reliable if the GDQ PCs would be compatible with zips. I remember the zips actually getting banned after somebody proved it was hardware reliant but I don't remember the details of that lol.
Shoutout to the GDQ staff for getting these posted so quickly. I'm honestly impressed given how long posting has taken in previous marathons.
Since last GDQ the community has found a bunch of new movement tech which made them completely reroute the Any% RUclips Upload category
There’s a noted jump in posting quality and speed this year..Production in general is great!
Seeing 2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv get broken like this brings back so much nostalgia! Man I was raised on this game.
💯
Raised on what game?
It’s only like two years old man
@@mattszybiak4496You missed the joke
never thought watching a guy stock still pushing a stick forward could be so tense, but that maliketh encounter proved me wrong
I feel honored to have been here for the historic first speedrun of 2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv on GDQ! Congrats to the runner and the commentary team!
chat after voting for this then realizing it was all zips was funny
Yea true but yea this is boring tbh
Only real ones were here when this video was titled 2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv

2024-01-20 14-14-28 what a game , a gem from the childhood
I remember playing 2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv when it released, as it was the game with the weirdest name that I have ever played.
2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv is one of the speedruns of all time.
Also, SpikeVegeta on couch makes the runs much more enjoyable.
Spike is always a treat
"I wish he was my dad"
My favorite GDQ event will alway's be mitch's blindfolded sekiro run. Mitch is always a ton of fun to have host a game.
The staff at GDQ speedran the uploading process for 2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv
Dude so cool having SpikeVegeta on the couch love his commentary and much love for the runner displaying his skills and making it seem easy!
x's commentary was so good
i love 2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv
Love the title brings character to the runners
Congrats x and x great gameplay and commentary!
Spikevegeta just brings back so much nostalgia for me. All the way back to the rayman legends gdq run a decade ago. Nice seeing him again
That x dude commentating AND hosting at the same time? Mad props to him!
2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv was definitely the highlight of the show.
This was fantastic. Great speedrun! I love learning about these game through speedruns even though I will never be a speedrunner myself - so fun to see and learn the mechanics of it all
Speedrunners and glich hunters are just amazing at this point
What a title
“That’s never happened before!”
freeman he yet 😅
Can't wait to see 2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv fully optimized next year!

SpikeVegeta explained it during the second mega zip

Yeah I kept waiting for them to explain it....
That thumbnail is everything, love seeing Spikevegeta!

Yeah would been great to hear some info about it. Maybe some backstory about discovery and the routing development as well.
2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv will now always be my favorite game
Big fan of 2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv - so happy it won in the bid war over Elden Ring and Sekiro
it ending on being dunked on by Hoarah Loux is just perfect
Based MKV encoding
My boy mitch killing it like always
2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv is probably the best game I ever played. Sucked, it got renamed to Elden Ring not long after. 2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv is just a way better name.
Arguably in my top 3 favorite speedruns
Also love the cohost. He's a real hypeman. Was fun to watch :)

14-14-28.mkv such a good game
I know I'm late to the party but this was seriously one of the most weirdly entertaining speed runs I've seen.
@mitchriz hands down you are the best commentator in gaming!!
"Runner introduction starts at x
Run starts at x
Commentary is provided by x
x is host"
love this dont punish whoever missed this honest mistake! We are all human!
true my favorite game2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv what a classic banger of a title, always was wondering when somebody would speedrun this one in a gdq!
Best video name)) Anyway, ty for the run, it was very fun to watch
I love HOW WEIRD this run is, nice work! :)

Spike is the absolute fuckin coolest I love that man
I love the tech crew changing Xenadir to Xena-Whale after the whale donation 😂
What an amazing speedrun by 2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv
You know its gonna be a good run when SpikeVegeta is on the couch!
How do you even discover things like this??
2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv is the goat video game!
Biggest game FromSoft ever and has the shortest speedrun of all of them and is the most glitchy.
Bro got to crumbling farum azula faster than I even died to the grafted scion
Ah yes, runner X playing X!
Nice title
looks like the any% run hasn't changed much in awhile. Whoever discovered zips really broke this game wide open
Ah, Elden Fling. One of 2023's best games.
Yes Mitch
2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv but I saw bamco and I knew what it was.
This run is dumb in the best way possible. I love seeing people find these absurd, game breaking glitches.
Elden Sling
Was confused by the title, guess they forgot to put in Elden Ring
that final glitch imples that mitch was the final boss all along lol
There's something special about getting powerbombed and killing the final boss as a result.
Spike needs to be on the couch for more runs.
Can someone explain the clicking noise? Is this a metronome to assist with input timing for the zips?
Yeah, it is
it's funny that this video of all the videos was the one to have a mishap, cus elden ring is such a popular game there'll be tens of thousands of ppl later on wondering what on earth the comments are talkin about
Awesome, GG
This is great
shoutout to Matroska files
When they said this was a 2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv any % and unrestricted run I was so hyped
Spoilers for the run:
I LOVE how this run ends with getting bodied by Hoarah Loux.
Bro how do you even found this shit out i dont get it god damn
how do people discover such glitches? crazy
spike is the best hype man GDQ has ever seen
And the award for best game goes to ... 2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv!!!! Congratulations!
No way y'all are playing 2024-01-20 14-14-28.mkv?? Hurray!
Wow! 🤯
This is some Morrowind-ass bullshit ~affectionate~
Wtf how does people find this tricks
WHAAAAALLLEEENNNNOIIISSSSEESSS
I remember Vegeta from the first ACDQ. Its crazy so much time has passed. They used to be im this little room
… what the fuck? How can one learn this power???
blake anderson on the couch
How do people discover how to do this?
The best game of the past decade has without doubt the most boring speedrun known.
Zip zip!
why is there a metronome knock?
To help with timing the glitch correctly
Elden Beast deserves that
Y cuando es que uno juega?
how the hell does that works?
You press and release forward at the same time the block animation loops. The actual inputs are, hold block for two seconds, then press forward for ten frames. The forward press has a 4-10 frame window but the release is frame perfect.
1 2 3 4 5
Ok but how ^^?
This guy was my physics teacher in high school. This is actually crazy haha
Honestly not a fan of speedruns that have straight up teleportation glitches in them.
People say this every single time there's any speed run showcase that uses glitches and breaks the game but the majority of people still like them so
I get the first batch of numbers, but what is 14-14-28?......Sure 14+14 = 28 but that can't be it.
Or can it?
2:48 PM (14 hrs, 14 mins, 28 sec)
It's the starting time of 2:14pm 28 seconds, see the top right corner for the time this video started at.
No combat in any souls game is kinda ass but good job.
OMG 😮 🇲🇨
I hate this speed run. It really is the exact opposite of what makes speed runs of souls games fun to watch. it gives me an empty feeling. Only Zips.
