My Conversion Story - From Evangelical Protestant to Catholic (Christian Testimony)

- I am so excited to share my own Catholic conversion story in today's video! Books linked at the bottom of this description. I did forget to share the biggest problem with Sola Scriptura: Sola Scriptura is not taught in Scripture. Scripture teaches that Scripture is authoritative (2 Tim 3:16), but Scripture does not teach that Scripture is the only authority in the life of a Christian or in the formation of Christian teachings. Scripture shows that the apostles and the leaders of the Church also have authority, and Scripture says that the Church, not Scripture is the “pillar and foundation of truth” (1 Tim 3:15). Many times, Paul exhorted believers to hold fast to his teaching/his example (2 Timothy 2:2, 2 Thessalonians 3:6, 1 Corinthians 11:2). The Council of Jerusalem is the biblical model for resolving disputes and shows, again, the authority of the Church, guided by the Holy Spirit to interpret Scripture and make binding doctrinal decisions. (Acts 15). More about this on my website: filedunderfaith.com/?p=6

Beautiful testimony sister. I am a cradle Catholic but just beginning to learn about the faith I grew up with. I love how new converts like you are so passionate and are sharing the truth about our faith. May God bless what you do and please continue to share such inspiring and beautiful messages.
Pamela, that's so wonderful! Thanks for watching.
Jesus in the Way, the truth and the Life. Follow Jesus and obey the Bible. Catholics believe in a lot of things contrary to the Bible.
@@emilyjoanna6269Thanks for making me more Catholic than ever. Comments like yours make my faith grow stronger ❤
@@FiledUnderFaith will keep you in prayer, Ma'am - catholicism is definitely not Christianity.
Bible proves it.
Great testimony. Thank you for all you are doing. Keep it up🙏
Thank you for sharing your journey. As a lifelong evangelical baptist (and a minister's kid!), I related to so much of what you said. I have recently been attending an Anglican church and although I love the liturgy and reverence, I still feel something is missing. I have been harbouring a growing desire to explore the Catholic faith but haven't known quite where to start so I really appreciate the book suggestions. Thanks again, and many blessings.
Keep reading and praying! Jesus will bring you home to His church.
Welcome to the Body of Christ
Just do it!
Go through Matthew Kelly's Decision Point. It is a book with videos and is easy to go through. I use it for my CCD religious education of middle schoolers and even most of them can understand the message.
Catholicism is the complete Fullness of the Faith... Jump in, and we will welcome you Home!
“I just know Jesus and the Church are one.”
St Joan of Arc
100% understand how some of the discovery and looking at how protestant church is focused towards the sermon became a challenge. Where as the homily is only part of the lead up to the eucharist makes sense. This has likely been one of the biggest turning points that's caused me to explore catholic church. Sermons get longer, personalities get bigger. It doesn't seem Christ focused to me. As a former pastor (15yr ago) I participated in the whole focus around sermons, and thats unfortunate. Doesn't mean people don't come to Jesus and know him through this, but it should not be the focus and build up of a gathering. I see in the catholic church a focus on Christ and community. It's refreshing to see worship focused towards God, and coming to mass as an act of worship instead of "what can I get out of it".
Add in like you highlighted the shock of how many splits and denominations there are vs the catholic church. From a spritual stand point it makes sense, protestantism was build on the foundation of separation and splitting the church. So it makes sense that this continues to happen within the protestant tradition. Yet despite challenges and quarrel within the catholic church, it remains one church.
Thanks for sharing your story.
Thanks again, Paul, for sharing your thoughts!
Now you need to go to a Traditional Latin mass . It's so Beautiful.
So true. God leads ppl to the truth. Once you find it. It sets you free
I agree with you completely. But the sad thing is many Cradle Catholics left and are now protestant because they like good Preaching.
@@danielblanchard793 part of what turned me off initially from years of protestant (I was even a pastor) is big personalities and the focus seems to be about preaching. Where as mass I encounter more scripture, more authentic worship, and a reverence I'd never encountered in the protestant church.
Thank you for sharing your testimony. I learned a lot. I'm a cradle catholic that also exposed myself to other denominations and have come to the conclusion that I'm staying catholic. Personaly reading many books to come to a solid decision isn't going to happen with me since I don't have the time or talent to do so. Listening to someone like yourself who has, helps a lot. God bless.
Glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching.
I too considered others, but the deciding factor among many factors was which Church is the most persecuted. Given the state of the world, I knew Satan would be working hard against it.
J penaflower I am like you. I got back into listening to podcasts etc...some are pints with aquinas, catholic talk show, word on fire, council of trent, Steve ray, st. Paul's center with Scott hahn is amazing...I've realized I've got an entire life time to really and truly discover our beautiful catholic faith!!good luck and godbless
@@empackmanmueller1725 Sensus Fidelium, which is more traditional, has thousands of videos (mostly audio) of homilies, saints, and other gems that have depth to them. I learn something in just about every video.
May God bless you in your faith journey. Pray with the Blessed Sacrament and in humility, ask to be led deeper. Your heart will move you to what God wants you to know. Jesus doesn't ask us to know everything. That's why He gave us His Catholic Church. The essentials are in the Catechism, which is online. Most importantly, love much.
@Michelle Antao There is a good series on EWTN called The Heresies. It covers the major attacks on the Catholic Church from within. This is the link to it on demand for $2.99 each (ondemand.ewtn.com/paid/Home/Series/catalog/video/en/the-heresies). It also is broadcast on Thursdays at 5 pm ET. The Church has been persecuted from outside and within. It proves Jesus' saying the gates of hell will not prevail. It also shows hell hasn't stopped trying.
We are starting to see the other "churches" also being attacked. Many sold their souls hoping to escape it or maybe hoping to be eaten last. Crazy times. Stay strong in Christ and peace to you.
Not really knowing my Catholic faith I became an evangelical and then a protestant for almost forty seven years until I heard a Catholic debater state what the early church fathers believed. Thank you for your sincerity and heartfelt testimony which reminds me of my own. May the Lord bless you abundantly in all of your undertakings.
Welcome home. I loved your story and made me appreciate that I was baptized into the Church when I was three weeks old 81 years ago.
You are blessed! Praise God for your faithfulness. Also, you are only five years away from being able to say with Saint Polycarp, "86 years have I have served him, and he has done me no wrong..."
John 3:3 KJV Bible
“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Great testimony, I love conversation stories! You touched on it a couple of times, but becoming Catholic from Protestantism is a paradigm shift in thinking. The convert is shifting their mentality from, "I have to read the scriptures and figure it out for myself" to "do I believe all the Church instructs and can I be completely obedient". That's quite a shift for many people and I know it was for me. During the two years of my discernment, every objection I had about Catholic teaching began to fall away and I slowly began to trust the Church. After 47 years as an Episcopalian I entered the Church in 2018. Catholicism is beautiful and I thank God every day for his grace, mercy, and the sacraments!
Thanks for your comment and for watching! Thanks for sharing a little bit about your story. My mother in law was also Episcopalian until her 50’s/60’s, and then she finally converted after her Catholic family members got off of her case so much, haha. God works in everyone’s life differently.
I was raised Southern Baptist, and my grandmother set my feet on the Path. I became Episcopalian in college. That was back in the 1960s. In 2002 I was confirmed Catholic. It was mother Mary who invited me to her Son's church. I can attest to the feeling of gratitude for coming home to His church. And the joy and peace that come daily from being a part of this long history, tradition, and beauty. Congratulations! By the way, did you marry the man who requested to friend you?
Thanks for sharing your story! Praise God! I've noticed that Mary plays a role in many of the conversion stories I've heard. And yes we are married now, with baby #4 on the way. :)
Welcome home Sister! Thank you so much for your testimony! I’m a cradle Catholic and I didn’t really study my faith until my fifties. Dr Brant Pitte in Catholic Productions and Dr. Scott Hahan have educated me so much in our faith.

"It is impossible to be just to the Catholic Church. The moment men cease to pull against it, they feel a tug toward it. The moment they cease to shout it down, they begin to listen to it with pleasure. The moment they try to be fair to it, they begin to be fond of it."

Welcome home sister., Proud Catholic from Philippines here...
I truly believe the Holy Spirit led me to your testimony. I was born and raised Catholic years ago, but drifted away from the Church along the way. Now, I feel a great desire and pull to come back home. Your video was just wonderful and you offer so many great suggestions for books to read that will help the process along. Hey thanks for this. I too was into skateboarding for most of my younger years. But God showed me that learning a whole bunch of tricks was idolatry. I have always believed in God, but had always struggled with pornography addiction. But truly understanding the Catholic view of Mary has completely set me free from it! I feel this true peace and easy yoke in my heart, because the burden has lifted. Praise the Lord, and may many people see your testimony.
What an awesome testimony. Glory to God for the work he has done in your life.

Hi Wendy, the Catholic Church has answers to these objections if you’d like to look into them. It’s probably not possible to have a thorough discussion here in the comments section, but there are lots of websites online that could explain, if you are curious. I’m sure Catholic Answers has covered these objections, as well as Dr. David Anders. I wish I had more time to make more videos about these specific kinds of objections… maybe I will someday.
" learning a whole bunch of tricks was idolatry" no it isn't 😂
Learning tricks on a skateboard isn't idolatry.

Bill, thanks so much for watching and sharing with your community. Can you share more about your online community? What you are doing sounds awesome.
Well done Meghan. ♥️

Thank you!
Thank you! As a Baptist, (and former skateboarder), son, grandson, nephew and cousin of sincere, commited and faithful Baptist Pastors, I will be joining the Catholic Church next October 9th 2022 (along with my Baptist wife), after 4 years of study of the Church Fathers and Catholic teaching. Richard Dawkins didn't impressed me either, because he is a deluded guy. God is not a random complex arrangement of pre-existing matter and energy. Such a thing could never be God as described in the Bible. He is the Creator of matter and energy, since neither of these could arise by chance out of nothing.
Jónatas, how exciting! Congratulations to you, and thanks for sharing your thoughts-I agree.
Beautiful testimony of a search for Truth who is a person not a thing. Thx for sharing, it has gave to me a cradle Catholic an enlightenment of my faith, in Jesus and the role the church has in fulfilling his mission of salvation for all his children. 😇✝️
Everyone has a Religion (atheist is a religion) and everyone has a Pope. My Pope lives in Rome. If your Pope is not in Rome you are your own Pope.
Yes! Exactly!
If you read the history of the bible Peter never went to Rome. I have no pope I only need a Savior Jesus Christ.
Before I recognized the authority of the pope, I was just my own pope. 🤷🏻♀️

I really like how you said you learned that Protestantism was more of what they were going to stop doing. That is a very profound statement and it’s eye opening. It acknowledges that there was an original church and someone decided to do things differently. Very simple yet profound.
I’m a new convert to Catholicism. I was received into the Church this past Easter. May God bless you in your journey and spreading the good news!
Also, just wanted to clarify that the 30-40,000 Protestant denominations has been debunked. There have been a couple sources that say it’s around 200 minimum probably higher but we don’t have that data to say exactly. Regardless 200 denominations is still A LOT of division within Christ’s body. I just wanted to share that with you so you can research it yourself if you want to. I used to think that too, because I heard it a lot of places.
Thanks for your comment! And that's a good point regarding the number of denominations, thanks for pointing that out.
Thank you for sharing. Very inspiring
Very interesting! I'm not a Christian, I'm Jewish, but I'm still fascinated by every conversion story, regardless of the religion

I loved your testimony, very authentic... God bless you!
Please try to attend traditional Latin mass if you haven’t until now :) it’s an huge placing to make this experience.
Your testimony was all beautiful! I was raised Catholic and never cared about it or God when i was young. I ended up questioning everything and getting BS answers from the priest and my family. That led me to become an atheist for over 12 years. I was fervently against God and anyone who believed in a god. I went out of my way to persecute people for their beliefs... Now today i celebrate just over a year of fully coming back to the Catholic Church. I'm not an emotional person, but my first confession after 12 years, i felt the weight of the world come off my shoulders, and with the, my eyes filled with tears and i left the confessional before the priest could see. But God has been showing me the way back home for a few years, I've just been too stubborn.
That is amazing! Thanks so much for sharing. And that makes perfect sense about confession. I am SO grateful for the gift of confession.
Beautiful testimony, let’s continue to pray for one another always!

Ironically, this is what Luther pressed for: "Every man his own pope." Very shortly, he was griping that he wasn't being obeyed and that his faithful were acting as if they were their own pope,
Exactly! Be careful what you wish for.

Very interesting conversion story! As a cradle catholic I was away from the church for 20 years. Didn't understand how wonderful our catholic faith is. Now I'm digging deeper and so in love with my catholic faith. So what happened to the gentleman you liked? What did he say when you converted to the catholic faith? What did he learn about the Protestant movement?? What does your family think of you being catholic
Yes, we are so blessed to be Catholic! And funny you should ask… after I finished recording this video, I realized that I never clarified. We are now married with two children and one more on the way. ☺️ He was of course supportive of my decision but left it up to me. As for the rest of my family, they definitely wish I were not Catholic but we are still very close.
You are so blessed to have found the true faith you have no idea....❤️🙏❤️
I have some inkling of how very blessed I am, but I am sure there is always more room to be grateful for God's graces in my life!
Thanks for sharing your faith journey and may God bless you for following the truth. You made many great points. St. Paul writes in 2 Thessalonians 2:15 to hold fast to the traditions that were passed on, the sacred traditions of the Catholic Church are biblical. Protestants have their traditions, such as bashing Catholics, but they have not been handed on since the Apostles through their valid successors. Everyone has a certain bias when it come to scripture, especially when there is no magestarium. What I find odd is the sola scriptura folks completely miss everything about Mary. The Hail Mary is there in Luke chapter 1 in the annunciation and visitation. In verse 28, the angel Gabriel says, hail [Mary] full of grace, the Lord is with you. Verse 42, Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb [Jesus]. If she is full of grace she is holy...holy Mary, mother of God...and in verse 43, Elizabeth calls Mary the mother of my Lord. Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death...anyone can pray for us, but who better than Mary. My point is that Mary and other Catholic beliefs are biblical, but because of the lens they view scripture, the Bible alone folks miss it. I am not trying to bash Protestants, just open their eyes to what is there.
Sorry for going off on a tangent. Thanks again for sharing your story. I hope what you are doing becomes tremendously successful for the Lord and you too. I will be praying for you and your family.
Great insights! And thank you so much for your encouragement and your prayers! I’m so grateful that the Lord has put this project on my heart, and I hope to keep working on it well into the future.

Welcome Home! Unfortunately there are lackluster RCIA programs at some parishes. I experienced one as my wife was converting. It was a mixed bag, but was at its best whenever the pastor gave instruction.
Yes. Luckily I had my now husband’s encouragement along the way, and that helped a great deal. It was helpful to know that the instruction there was not all there was to Catholic thought or catechesis.
The church on earth is joined mystically by Gods grace with the church in heaven and we pray for the souls in purgatory. This wonderful truth is available to all in the church

Thanks so much for sharing:
I am a reformed Baptist pastor and I appreciate your sincerity, humility and simplicity. May God bless you. Please do not take this comment as against you, but rather the whole situation.
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ in the Protestant tradition, this testimony should show us the need of:
1. Faithful Christian families that disciple their children from a young age in doctrine, diligently, deeply and constantly.
2. The need of a solid local church that: preaches the word collectively and privately, prays corporately, actively evangelists, mutually disciples, fervent fellowship and practices the Lord's table every week.
3. Has a good understanding of Sola Scriptura. As the doctrine that teaches that the the Bible is the only post-canon means of accessing the prophets and apostles teachings. All apostolic traditions are contained in scripture and ceased with their death. The NT only is the apostolic succession. We have the apostles tradition and teachings in the NT only. The church even in times of the apostles was already confused and messy. You would have never wanted to receive authoritative teachings from the Corinthians, or Thessalonians or Ephesians etc. Those churches no longer exist for a reason. The body of Christ is eternally manifested in the invisible church and temporarily manifested in local churches. The local church is the one that has authority, as the word of God is meant to work congregationally in all members of the body. Not only the clergy.
Please also note, that the flesh always wants someone to tell you and dominate you, to take your individual responsibility. Being responsible for your faith is a big thing, but that is the biblical way. High church tends to take that responsibility off the shoulders of people and people like that, as it makes their life easier.
I hope this helps.
I'm sorry to my catholic friends if this offends you. Not my intention.
In Christ!
PS. Born and raised catholic in the most catholic culture besides Italy: Andean South America.
Hello, I take issue with the suggestion that my family or my evangelical church was lacking in their ability to pass on the Christian faith as they understood it. Both my family and the churches I attended were ardently Christian and practiced the best that protestantism offers. The depth of my Christian upbringing is in part what gave me the desire to go deeper. I was given the best of evangelicalism, but it wasn't enough. I needed the Sacraments.
God bless you on your journey ahead as Catholic.
Thank you!
Wonderful!

God bless you always.
Protestant worship is similar to ancient synagogue worship which focused on the singing of psalms (songs) and the reading and teaching of the Torah (scripture). Catholicism and Orthodoxy are similar to the temple worship in Jerusalem where also the psalms were sung and the Torah read, but flesh and blood SACRIFICE were also offered. In the new Christian temples it is the bread and wine, which in the process of offering become the flesh and blood of Jesus, that are SACRIFICED. And sacrificed also for our consumption.
Have you read Hebrews 9? Was Christ offered once for all time or not?

But please have this in mind, when a Protestant converts to the Catholic Church, it’s because they know Scripture and are convinced something is lacking in their churches! One more thing, I really believe Converts are better Catholics!
Welcome and thank you for your beautiful story!
Thanks so much for watching! I’m so glad it was an encouragement.
I’m a cradle Catholic, and recently and almost unconsciously, I noticed that I’m kind of in a quest of deepening my knowledge about faith. Interesting, I seem to always gravitate towards hearing from people who converted to Catholicism more that someone who has been Catholic all her/his life. Testimonies like yours have more value to me in a way that I can’t fully comprehend. Thank you for sharing it and I’ll look forward learning more about our faith and our God with you in this crazy journey that we call life.
Thank you for this content

Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing…👏🏻
Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you and I think you are on a spiritual mission. When that happens do not harden your heart but take in the Peace and energy and go on from there. Keep your mission with Christ.
Thanks for watching, Edmund, and for your encouragement!
