Fantastic journalism. Our city needs a lot of help in this recovery. Luckily, though unsurprisingly, its citizens are helping one another through this natural disaster. Good on you, Brisbane.
From a former resident of Queensland now living back in Canada, thanks for showing the floods from a different point of view. It's heartbreaking to see what's happened to Brisbane.
I used to live on Land Street and work at the Regatta. So sad. I now live one street above where those guys were Jet-Skiing. Thanks for showing us a "ground/water level view of the situation. Seeing it from a chopper really doesn't give the impact that this footage has. Thank you.
Yes, We want more of footages by you... this is very nice little footage to share to people, thanks for your effort... Excellent!! more.. more.. more.. we enjoyed.. laughed and tears together... :)
The Australian Spirit is still high, People from all over Australian rushing to their countries aid, I love how their cracking out beers, While working, Just floating around, Helping others insted of just being careful of themselves. Like Jordan Rice, He saved his brother and lost his own life, Thats what being Australian is, Helping others over yourself. True Australians risk their life to help others, Proud to be Aussie I am!
it's incredible all these flood around the houses of the people. Great report. Thank you to show us this situation. Can i ask you the name of the song in the report, i would to use for a documentary? Thank you again. And congrats for your work.
This is extreme and we would like to encourage you to make these sort of reports more frequently and let the people know about surroundings... Stay safe and keep up the best work for the community ...
What strikes me about the video is, although there is spooky disaster music in the background, the vibe of the people is undeniably upbeat. This, I believe, is what shows their incredible resilience and will allow them to bounce back relatively quickly. Yeh!
Great video. To see it from ground (or river) level is different than air shots or from where I am. I can see UQ and Toowong but buildings and trees block the damage just beyond the river bank. Luckily the water is now receding.
@jewlzben it was nearly empty last year, it was designed to lessen the flood impact in brisbane, the dam rose 3 meters in 1 day - the day toowoomba got flooded. Imagine if that went straight to brisbane.
@Bandtx I think there's a few different ways 'garage' is pronounced, depending on where you're originally from (even within Australia). I have an English friend who pronounces the first 'a' as in 'hat', and the second 'a' a bit like 'i' (as in 'fridge'....although maybe a little softer). Some people pronounce it 'guh-rarj', and some say 'ga-rarj' : )
I'm in Queensland and the devestation is just unbelievable. Lives have been lost, others have had their lifes possessions, homes/businesses, photographs destoyed. They have to spend the next year cleaning out, fighting insurance companies and if they can, then rebuild. Every families story is different but the whole thing effects everybody in Aus and if I can help out at all - I'll be doing that through the premiers appeal. Regardless of what the tv stations are doing.
its amazing that toowoong got pretty much got flooded, but right around the corner my school BBC didn't... looks like there won't be any delays tog et back to school after all
@mYOzZyKaT the people that died were killed in an inland tsunami in the Lockyer Valley and Toowoomba and Murphys Creek, they were not killed in Brisbane where people had time to get out and get ready for the floods. The people that were killed were killed because of 150mm of rain falling within half an hour.
That is so sad, disasters can happen anywhere at anytime no one is safe esp. for over 6 billion people out there who are trying to live normal decent lives. Stay strong people!!!! Hope you get to move somewhere safe.
I would be little iffy about cruising around in area like that either on a jetski or a thin-skinned boat; Reason being you just never know what might be just under the surface such the top of that fence at 0:36/37.
the australian government needs to get their act together, they've put billions of dollars into helping other countries out of their disasters, and can only pull together 1 million for their own country. it's amazing how strong these guys are being, their resilience is what is going to get them back on their feet. all i can say is global warming is clearly catching up to us.
@afgan139 thats just like every other country... i dont know whats australia is like but im sure eveyone's the same and we hear about it in the uk... haiti was a year ago and still people are living in tents...
All of our water in Toowoomba is where it started and it went down the range and fucked up Grantham, it's just totally wiped out. Here it ain't flooded anymore, we're just cleaning up the stores and stuff.
@mYOzZyKaT but the areas where people died were not subject to flooding. every country builds in places that might flood, i live on a lagoon. but its the fact that it was a WALL of water, not flash flooding, a wall of water just like a tsunami, but without the warnings. it plowed through the lockyer valley destroying everything in its path, and unfortuantatle, killing some people.
What about the bull sharks in the Brisbane River..? They rely on the usually mirky water to find food (anything that basically moves..). Surely they are another hazard to the people of Brisbane and surrounding areas now the water is so high in residential suburbs..? Good luck to all Queenslanders...
My heart is with you and so is my wallet. Donations to appeals and RSPCA done. Doing Shoeboxes of Love. Hang in there. mates. You have been incredible in disaster. From a born-Qlder. Not forgetting nsw flooded areas and Perth fires.
Wow, seeing on the news, it didnt look as bad as this. But thats just unbelievable, I work at milton and im guessing im not gonna be working for a while.
@afgan139 yahyah. watch, in a few days you are going to have everyone there. hell you dont expect them to come during the damn flooding. i dont remember anyone helping us when we got hit by a typhoon except for the US.
Too be honest, I just feel bad for the families of those 16 people (AS far as I know it hasn't risen) who've died and those families of the 53 that are still missing. The grief and fear would be massive
@afgan139 Many countries did offer but Australia refused as our emergency services here are so self sufficient. It could be a little Aussie pride not wanting to accept help.
@wallywallymanta but when your the media, youve more or less got a ticket anywhere, and while these guys are out there taking these pictures, they reduce the amount of other sightseers as they can watch videos from the homes, as have we all.
Fantastic piece of video journalism. A great use of the medium to demonstrate the scale of the floods. Great work Suzanne and Sarah.

Great footage. Australians have shown the world they can be resilient and calm when facing disaster at such magnitude. We should be proud!
From a former resident of Queensland now living back in Canada, thanks for showing the floods from a different point of view. It's heartbreaking to see what's happened to Brisbane.
Great video and great commentary. Well done. Better than any news report I´ve watched on TV.
Keep up the good spirit Aussies, you are showing world how be strong!
Respect from America!!
Excellent reporting, thank you for bringing this unique perspective to us. Please provide more if possible!

been watching news on tele all day long, thought this 4.26 minutes report is so much better than what I've seen on tele!
Yes, We want more of footages by you... this is very nice little footage to share to people, thanks for your effort... Excellent!!
more.. more.. more.. we enjoyed.. laughed and tears together... :)
How this has brought people together has made me feel proud to be Australian.
Amazing footage, well done to you, the cameraman and the captain.

Nice work. Not one "unbelievable", not one "surreal". Good direct commentary. Thanks
Keep up the good spirit Aussies, you are showing world how be strong!
Respect from New South Wales (Aus) :P

Did you boat near Park Lane at all? Would be interested to see what our house (on the corner of Park Ave and Park Lane) looks like from the back.
Great video. To see it from ground (or river) level is different than air shots or from where I am. I can see UQ and Toowong but buildings and trees block the damage just beyond the river bank. Luckily the water is now receding.

this was the best reporting ty so is there fears of bull sharks?
it's nice to see that even tho some people have lost a lot of stuff they still seem to held up a positive attitude...
Wow this reportage is amazing! Someone could tell me the name of the song in the background? I need it for a documentary!
Thanks again!
Finally,footage worth watching
I'm in brisbane, spent the days fixing things, and the nights drinking. We'll be fiiiiiiiiiiine
@mYOzZyKaT haven't had a major flood like this since 1990's or so. but either way, do you expect the whole city to be built 10 ft in the air?
@Bandtx

DEADLY SNAKES EVERYWHERE
Hope you guys in Brisbane are ok.
Great report, well done!!!
wow amazing footage what gets me is who are the 9 who dont like this video
@monkeypuzzle351 Thats why the dam was built, to stop Future flooding, which it has in recent years but this one was just way to big.
its amazing that toowoong got pretty much got flooded, but right around the corner my school BBC didn't... looks like there won't be any delays tog et back to school after all
Woaah, I was walking next to QU just last week, waters gone soooo high.
If I was there, I'd just go into a shopping center and grab a bag of lollies.
would this have happened if the wivenhoe flood catchment was empty, like it was designed to be after the 74 flood?
@xispas2008 thanks mate it great to here from some on from over there
I like the camera she was using, pretty nice framerate and resolution. Also, video makes me wish I had a jetski.
@Tedybare2002 lol nah I don't reckon, I reckon we just got too much rain in a short time, it happens.
I love the Aussie spirit
Poor UQ.
Breaks my heart to see my old Uni underwater.

@Jackasiasaurus I heard its gone and there wasnt such major floods in the gold coast. well thats where im specificly headed.
All of our water in Toowoomba is where it started and it went down the range and fucked up Grantham, it's just totally wiped out. Here it ain't flooded anymore, we're just cleaning up the stores and stuff.

It went from Brizvegas to Brizvenice in a few short days...
What about the bull sharks in the Brisbane River..? They rely on the usually mirky water to find food (anything that basically moves..). Surely they are another hazard to the people of Brisbane and surrounding areas now the water is so high in residential suburbs..? Good luck to all Queenslanders...
Excellent report
Why isnt this getting any coverage here in America?
Please dont tell me this is Brisbane. I have ready plane tickets for the 25th.
:'(
Pretty crazy, glad to see that people were making the best of it and having a swin and a beer. Much like the American way, only better.
15 people are dead 51 still missing and they think it will increase. It is just so sad All of the Queensland Flood Victims will be in my heart.
@Drzozo Why would I want to go into the public toilet where they serve drinks?
I love how they're making the most of it hahahaha
I'm right next to the floods but I'm not dealing with them but pretty close to them D:
the end is near much?
Sorry guys for this comment. Anybody knows the song of this video?
I would to use for a New Orleans documentary. Thank you very much, and respect.
@the23NN Same here, I totally agree. It should get an award or something.
My heart is with you and so is my wallet. Donations to appeals and RSPCA done. Doing Shoeboxes of Love.
Hang in there. mates.
You have been incredible in disaster.
From a born-Qlder.
Not forgetting nsw flooded areas and Perth fires.
@the2ndbest2 what after life can you tell me about it
@2012sDude ikr, disasters are so much fun, when you're just sight seeing.
Wow, seeing on the news, it didnt look as bad as this. But thats just unbelievable, I work at milton and im guessing im not gonna be working for a while.
My uni and my town got smashed! Lucky my house is okay. Can't say the same to some of my mates houses :(
She sounds excited by doing this report? I think i hear a small change in her tone to a laughter or smile when seeing cars in the water...
@cataback101 whats that have to do with anything?
@the2ndbest2 you wouldnt say that if the flood was near you would you?
i went to help out clean some houses today ? and i nearly died due to the stink of the mud and water together. it was horrible
This is a disaster of epic proportions. I hope that the people of Brisbane will soon return to their normal life.
@afgan139 yahyah. watch, in a few days you are going to have everyone there. hell you dont expect them to come during the damn flooding. i dont remember anyone helping us when we got hit by a typhoon except for the US.

Anyone else notice, when they went under the bridge and she said "Oh my goodness", the graffitti on the bridge said "OMFG"
2:48 Australian Edward Norton!?
@afgan139 Many countries did offer but Australia refused as our emergency services here are so self sufficient. It could be a little Aussie pride not wanting to accept help.
i think you got a leak there
0:15 Forgetting Sarah Marshall?
@lewiseldust yeah whatever bud. this place is awesome

@MenacingPhantom I love your comment :P
great tour such an amazing time.. take a tour around some dead bodies ,lost homes hundreds of elegantly homeless people simply breathtaking...
@jaydenakasha yeh I know... it's almost as good as the Town Planning.
@wallywallymanta but when your the media, youve more or less got a ticket anywhere, and while these guys are out there taking these pictures, they reduce the amount of other sightseers as they can watch videos from the homes, as have we all.
"Imagine jetskiing in the streets"
This is so crazy!
The city should never have been built right on the river like that!
Bull sharks are in the flood waters from the brisbane river so i dont think you should swim in it
Also the flood water is dirty.
0:49 trespass?
I can't see the flotation vest on the reporter. Is she hoping to drown?
@MangBang08 Easy to see you are in year 12!
