Funny enough, the first guide I *ever* read about VGC, before I even knew it was called VGC, used this exact strategy, skill swap no guard Sheer Cold, as an example of "A strategy that'd be way too inconsistent to work in practice". They even used Bronzong and Lapras as the example pokemon. Leave it to Wolfey to prove them wrong.
I feel like Wolfey proved them right more that anything. Yeah he got it to work a few times, but he also had to rely heavily on perish trap and some crazy luck to make it as far as he did. Was it entertaining? Heck yeah. Was it a consistent strategy? Not in a million years.

Anyone who isn't subscribed to Wolfey doesn't know what they're missing -- *every* video has something that surprises me, and they're endlessly rewatchable! In pure watch time alone, I think Wolfey is far and away my most viewed channel, maybe ever. I put on videos to do dishes, laundry, shiny hunt, draw, crochet -- they're so well narrated (especially the in person tournament videos) that I don't need to watch the screen to follow along, and the audio is always funny and engaging enough that I want to pay attention. Wolfe, you're absolutely one of the best produced channels on RUclips, and I'll be happily subscribed for as long as you're on the platform!!
Nothing feels better than actually learning about team-building from Wolfe you begin to accurately predict the Pokemon, moves, items, abilities, and strategies the team is going to use.
I knew so early on he'd bring Gothitelle exactly for this reason. Soon as he mentioned Lapras I thought about Perish/SC and realized Gothitelle was the obvious play.
I think what's wonderful about this video and strategy is you actually get it so many times. In a lot of your other videos, you come up with a neat strategy that ends up getting sidelined by your other pokémon that you brought along for coverage. In this case, Lapras really did all the work. It's awesome!
This is the sort of convoluted team that I love to see succeed. And I particularly love it because there is no way in hell I could do a good job piloting something like this, lol.
We were glad to host you again during this tournament! Was so wild to see you vs Michael live & this team in general!! Hope to catch you in a future event king 👑 -SirSmoke SpearPillar Founder/Host
@@Killer_Queen_310 you played?? If so, that’s awesome! I spent 2 years programming the game, and it got about 10k page views before relic castle got nuked. RIP 😭😅
I play the new pocket tcg, I’m pretty high up on the point system (which is technically ladder). Golurk is a card most don’t bother using. And someone brought a golurk setup deck that almost was competent and I still think it was one of the best/most funny decks I’ve seen. I love this giant.
@agent3689 Yeah. You need to have one, likely two gardevoirs and it’s pre cards to have a chance. With the golurk cards that is half of your deck already and you probably want a stall mon. But it’s hard in a meta where people can set up in 3 turns.
I know almost nothing about competitive Pokemon's tournament history but even I've heard of the notorious Fissure teams. OH-KO teams seem too good to be true so I assumed they were gimmicky, but I guess being able to maximise the number of times you get to attack is just broken with this sort of team. But the three Pokémon skill swap strategy is just... for a lack of better phrasing *very painful for everybody involved*
I think his plan for the coming run of tournaments is to run the most bs gimmicks but make them as good as possible. Like the cast spore of neutralizing gas + toedscruel
In the case of Fissure, it's not actually an OHKO setup, it's Stomping Tantrum. Stomping Tantrum doubles in power if your previous move failed, so you do the same amount of damage failing Fissure and then using Stomping Tantrum as you would using Stomping Tantrum twice. 70% of the time, that's just how it goes. But, that extra 30% of the time, you pick up a KO for free that you MIGHT not have without it. And you're using 2 move slots to accomplish this.
1:29:04 only Wolfey could go for a play that makes no sense and watch it be completely optimal. The earth power missing because of levitate on Golurk has me rolling 😂
The opponent was probably like “holy fuck that was the craziest read I’ve ever seen”, meanwhile Wolfe is over here cooking up some raw ass that somehow worked out. World champ difference
I just tried this team and it was hilarious, my first battle I accidentally forgot that inciniroar was slow in trick room and clicked u-turn to switch while I used skill swap. This triggered intimidate a second and then a third time when I skill swapped with golurk. They quit before I could sheer cold.
@@SpaceX0ne Taking away No Guard from the Golurk with skill swap makes dynamic punch basically a coin flip on whether or not it hits, since it has really bad accuracy, so it's a misplay for the play Wolfey was trying to make. However, he still hit the move, and passing the levitate to the Golurk accidentally read an earth power and avoided it, making it an accidental gigabrain optimal play.

So, he's got Lapras on the team with sheer cold AND perish song he's doing perish trap isnt he Edit: god damnit wolfe we need an intervention at this point
I am mostly a Smogon player, but I like vgc too, and this type of content is exactly what vgc needs. It brings creativity while being as competitive as possible. Your best video by far in my opinion, nice job Wolfey
Given the Dua Lipa motivation for this challenge, you could have talked about her song Gravity when saying the move Gravity is ineffective for this setup.
Lapras also learns Horn Drill. Between Sheer Cold and Horn Drill, only Froslass is immune. I'm sure nothing could go wrong giving two one-hit KO moves to a single Pokemon.
The edits are hilarious. The forging, the self-deprecating face swaps, highlighting Lapras's self-assured (even mocking?) backward glance, befuddled Vincent Vega accuracy, the entire inspiration behind this team.... gold.
I love Wolfie’s content because it feels like two videos in one you get the end death details of the team he’s planning to do and then you actually get an extended format of him using the team
It’s been a couple years since I watched one of Wolfeys videos, I had no idea he got this popular, you deserve it dude you’re one of the best competitors in doubles Pokemon. Congrats on your growth
This has to be one of the most evil teams I’ve seen you do, sheer cold and perish trap are quite a gamble, but when it works there’s almost nothing you can do
Do you remember when Fissure was learned by Machamp in Gen 1? Now Gen 1 transferred Machamp with Fissure with No Guard: Allow us to introduce ourselves. Also Sturdy Mons.
All mons passed through Virtual Console from gens 1-2 have their Hidden Ability. Fissure Machamp still can't have No Guard, and can't pass Fissure as an egg move either.
Also, Machamp isn't in Scarlet/Violet. And even if it was, pokemon moved into Scarlet/Violet get their moves reset to the last moves they would have learned by level up.

Case in point -- not even a minute later and "my eggs are hatching" made me burst out laughing during the ad read. Never change, Wolfey 🤣🤣

The skill swap hospitality was awesome and blew my mind, but I'm aready subscribed, so here's a comment. !
Wolfey I gotta say, you’re the only RUclipsr who releases a two and a half hour video and I say “hell yeah”
Yeah, I never played a Pokémon game and I can more often than not guess abilities and moves 😂
I knew he'd bring gothitelle the moment he mentioned perish song. Also was 99% sure Bronzong would be on the team when he mentioned trick room
I think what's wonderful about this video and strategy is you actually get it so many times. In a lot of your other videos, you come up with a neat strategy that ends up getting sidelined by your other pokémon that you brought along for coverage. In this case, Lapras really did all the work. It's awesome!

love pokemon destiny,
@@Killer_Queen_310 you played?? If so, that’s awesome! I spent 2 years programming the game, and it got about 10k page views before relic castle got nuked. RIP 😭😅
oh my sweet goodness. Golurk being used for something even if it isnt great is amazing. I love this.
I play the new pocket tcg, I’m pretty high up on the point system (which is technically ladder). Golurk is a card most don’t bother using. And someone brought a golurk setup deck that almost was competent and I still think it was one of the best/most funny decks I’ve seen. I love this giant.
@@augervongaribaldi I want to use Golurk, but it takes such a long time to set up, that I tend to sack a lot of my other cards.
"it's not about winning, it's about sending a message"
1:20:53 this was not on my 2024 bingo card for Wolf to quote Chappell Roan ‘Pink Pong Club’
Totally not going to use this for nefarious purposes
@RandoSando. third mode found
I remember watching 1:29:00 live and absolutely crying of laughter. Unbelievable turn.
Me too 😂
“Task failed successfully” the turn
I choked on my dessert it was just peak content.
I don't understand what happened.
That first match, sheer cold and hospitality stolen to heal? I'd Home X A and be done with it
love having your long form videos to absorb vgc strats and info while i do my own work LMAO im able to drop so much random tidbits mid-convos with my friends
I feel like Wolfey's delivery for these tourney intros is getting more natural and less gun-to-head hostage. Keep up the great work! Love it as always. 🧊🎶
“regardless of stats, abilities,..”.
Sturdy: Allow me to introduce myself
So, he's got Lapras on the team with sheer cold AND perish song
he's doing perish trap isnt he
Edit: god damnit wolfe we need an intervention at this point
The origin of this team is absolutely wild. Thank you for the subtitles! While they're not totally accurate, they're still very useful.
I am mostly a Smogon player, but I like vgc too, and this type of content is exactly what vgc needs. It brings creativity while being as competitive as possible. Your best video by far in my opinion, nice job Wolfey
1:43:56 Who needs to hit Sheer Cold 30% when you just hit the Hurricane miss 30% every time 😂
Given the Dua Lipa motivation for this challenge, you could have talked about her song Gravity when saying the move Gravity is ineffective for this setup.
He also could've made a levitating reference when talking about skill swap heatran
Im surprised incineroar wasn’t talked about in the first 2 minutes.
Incineroar appeared at 6:02.
This *has* to be a record for how long the video went before showing it right?
Bc its getting old. Lol. But thanks for putting a time stamp i guess
@WhatNow505 skill issue
@@unebaguette9745 kinda incorrect setting to use that term but okay 😅
Incineroar will always remain in our nightmares ☺️
Lapras also learns Horn Drill. Between Sheer Cold and Horn Drill, only Froslass is immune. I'm sure nothing could go wrong giving two one-hit KO moves to a single Pokemon.
Lapras also learns fissure. Making it the only pokemon to learn 3 Ohko move
The edits are hilarious. The forging, the self-deprecating face swaps, highlighting Lapras's self-assured (even mocking?) backward glance, befuddled Vincent Vega accuracy, the entire inspiration behind this team.... gold.
1:44:47 that was the funniest bit
"Incineroar! Dodge it!" said Wolfey after Incineroar got KO'ed
Every time I think Wolfe can’t possibly come up with a weirder strategy than last time, he proves me wrong. It’s like watching Michelangelo work.
Perish Cold Trap has got to be torture for both the user and any opponents it beats. The most cruel team ever
I love Wolfie’s content because it feels like two videos in one you get the end death details of the team he’s planning to do and then you actually get an extended format of him using the team
In case anyone didnt understand, when wolfey says "mon" its slang for pokemon btw
It’s been a couple years since I watched one of Wolfeys videos, I had no idea he got this popular, you deserve it dude you’re one of the best competitors in doubles Pokemon. Congrats on your growth

If machamp was in scarvi, I *think* you'd be able to get fissure machamp with no guard into sword and shield using the buffed ability patch, but alas
Proccing sturdy into missing fissure sounds too fun ngl
mans was on his villain arc before, he won a lot and lost some, then he went into his training arc! NOW he's back into his villain arc and better (+ more evil) than ever!
