    Purchased the Acer Predator IPS version late 2019, excellent monitor for gaming and very good for photography. Massive jump from an old 1080p 60Hz to 1440p 165Hz! Very happy with it and got a good deal on black Friday sale for £479.

  • @GlobalAspect1

    This monitor is over 4 years old, and still one of the best out there. Keep in mind there are two versions of the XB27HU. the "bmiprz" version is the one reviewed above, and the "abmiprz" version is the TN panel with 1ms response time. Technically TN is going to give you faster response times for competitive shooters, but sacrifices with image quality a bit and viewing angles. I tend to do more than just gaming so I stick with an IPS. IT's personal preference, but I think the IPS is worth the bit of sacrifice on ms response time. Going to go pro gaming fps? get the TN.
    The main reason I thought i'd comment, is there is 4k 144hz out there now, but its EXPENSIVE and its DECEIVING. You cant go 4k true 4:4:4 color and run it at 144hz (98 at best). You'll also drop about 2k on the monitor as well. If you are really wanting to go 4k with a high refresh rate - YOUR WAIT IS ALMOST OVER! The main reason the refresh rate is low, is due to the limitation in bandwidth on display port 1.4 (yes, you have to use dp..dont use hdmi on these kinds of monitors please). back in June it was announced Display port 2.0 will be coming out in 2020. It still seems to be going that route, but I would safely bet you wont starting seeing mass-produced monitors with 2.0 until late next year. The bandwidth on 2.0 will allow 144hz @4k in 4:4:4, and 8k @60hz! Exciting times are ahead.
    At the end of the day, i'm going with this monitor for two reasons:
    1) it's still the gaming standard after 4+ years, and does an excellent job
    2) it's an affordable purchase to hold you over until the "next gen" comes out. If it was going to be a month or two i'd probably wait, but being about a year out, its worth it now IMO.
    Hope this helps anyone looking for that perfect gaming monitor!

      you also need a super expensive pc to run 4k at 144hz, a single 2080ti is not enough at max settings in most modern games

      Amaz3ments Just got mine yesterday from Costco. I was pleasantly surprised they had them. 144hz is a huge difference from the standard 60hz refresh rate. Battlefield 4 and CS GO play much better on this monitor compared to my older 27" 1440 monitor.

      I am very happy for you. Everything is so smooth. I like how we have the option to overclock to 165 hz if needed. I do not know how I stayed on my old 60hz 27 inch monitor. 1440p is the way to go. If they are still around which I think they will be. I will purchase another one soon. Just to keep consistency. :)

    Great video! Surprised to see that you have so few subscribers. Should definitely post some reviews on reddit (subreddits like pcmasterrace, pcgaming, hardware, nvidia, android, etc. ...).
    A reason for why the screen wouldn't go over 120 Hz in CSGO could be that the Framerate (FPS) was limited to 120 by the game and or VSYNC was on. Another reason could be that you're using an older graphics card that might not support 1440p with high Hertz numbers.

    • @TechyTalkUK
      @TechyTalkUK  8 лет назад

      Thanks. I've never really used Reddit, tbh. Maybe one day I'll get into it.
      As for the 120Hz, it could have been quite a few things but I'd already done the testing to check it all worked properly and this was just it being awkward for when filming that shot so I just went with it.

  • @Cruzan9

    I might go with this one and barring a major quality control issue and there is no need to return it, I have what I think are fixes for that awful stand and gaudy logo. It's a bit of a turnoff. That said, the negative reports I've read on both, from customer reviews, does give me pause. For some reason there seems to be more issues with the ASUS. I understand that IPS glow is expected but backlight bleeding and ghosting are my main concerns on IPS machines. I will have a look in the store and decide there. Micro Center gives you 30 days to return with no questions asked. I think 30 days is more than adequate.

  • @streaky81
    @streaky81 6 лет назад

    That 100 quid difference would buy you a counter-balanced monitor arm which, honestly, makes having a monitor on your desk less of a pain in the proverbials - makes it much easier to gain some desk space if you need it and you can push it back when that 6 monthly desk clean comes around. Plus the feet don't get generally in the way. Too much focus on the stand which is an irrelevance and not enough on the monitor more generally for me.

I love the Acer look more than the asus but that's just an opinion the sand is bad ass on the predator (: I would go with the Acer if I were you and save 100$ I returned the asus . it was a hard one but I went with acer simply because it's cheaper but offers same shit (:

      I went for the Acer!. I wasn't overly impressed with either stand to be honest, but the fact that they have the same panel but the Acer is £100 cheaper means it's a no brainer really. Plus I have heard the QC is really bad at Asus at the minute.

    • @boredbanana7324
      @boredbanana7324 8 лет назад +16

      Actually, this is not true, I don't know how the creator could miss that, but they definately do not feature the same Panel. Acer features actually a later and upgraded Revision of this Panel.
      Another noteworthy argument is that the XB271HU is actually Acer 2nd iterration of a >100Hz ISP monitor, where they worked on the flaws of it's predecessor, while 279q is the 1st.
      All in all you have a way higher chance being involved in a returning marathon with the Asus, which refund rate is so high amazon even stopped shipping it.

    Some users write that this monitor XB271HU, when exiting the game on the desktop, in the mode of g-sync, there is some flickering. Or, in general, an artifact appears in the form of a vertical strip separating the screen exactly in the middle. Can be treated on/off monitor. And that when viewing RUclips, or scrolling sites, the objects are pulled purple plumes.
    How true is this? Have you ever seen anything like this?

    • @kasenumi

      I have this monitor and this is true. After a year of using it I wish I chose another monitor. Going to RMA the monitor as I currently have a grey shadow vertical line in the left side of the screen. The monitor is great but matrix fails in a year and many forum users report the same. For that money it should work well for at least 7 years
      I dont think I am going to choose Acer low quality products in future.

      With bleeding you also have to be lucky on delivery. When you buy a pro grade monitor for graphics you sometimes exchange samples a couple of times because of blacklight bleeding and I am talking here of monitors for loads of money, not gaming ones. So you might be more or less lucky. And those monitors provided by producers for reviews might be preselected to have less bleeding.

      +Zachary Maestas I'd definitely get the XB271HU but that's because I put a lot of value on the image quality of IPS. If all you care about is gaming performance then the PG278Q is better as its TN panel has a much faster response time (1ms vs 4ms).

    For anyone who is torn between these two models like I was, let me tell you my experience. I purchased the ASUS. $949 AUD plus shipping ended with a cost of $1010. Out of the box my ASUS has severe backlight bleed in the upper right and mid left areas of the screen. And I mean SEVERE. This is probably among the worst feelings you can have, similar to buying a very expensive computer and putting it altogether and realising it's not working or blue screening. I decided this just wouldn't be acceptable and asked for my warranty return and sent it back, to which they replied to me and agreed that the issue was severe and asked whether I wanted a replacement or a refund. I decided to have a replacement but I asked if they could test it for me first to make sure it was okay, to save myself having to go through this again. They opened a second ASUS for me and sent me an email claiming that this other one had even WORSE backlight bleeding than my original.
    In the end they recommended due to my unfortunate luck that I go with the Acer Predator XB271HU. They were kind enough to refund my money and I purchased the Acer instead for a less price of $849 plus shipping for a total of $910 and I have to say, despite having a less appealing design and the frustration of having to assemble it and not to mention the extra space the stand takes up, the Acer has had no backlight problems at all for me. Slight IPS glow but that's a given. Overall I'm relieved and happy with the Acer.
    I can't believe how ridiculously poorly manufactured the ASUS is considering how much money they ask for it. Very disappointed with ASUS here. It feels like they're slowly turning into Razer.

      Yes. The monitor will work with any graphics card or CPU combination. However, if you want G-Sync then you will need an Nvidia graphics card, but this isn't affected by whether you have an AMD CPU.

      They both have shit for QC. Look up Acer forums lol. Nothing but people with issues (BLB, dead pixels, twisted images etc)
      I've read many reports that one must return the Acer monitor several times (like 3 or 4) until they get a proper one that actually works and isnt horrible in some aspect. Thats a process that can easily take months.
      Its a lottery when it comes to Acer or Asus gaming monitors.

    Literally the only downside I could find with this is the 4ms response time.

    • @rsk2440
      @rsk2440 5 лет назад

      I know the reply is late but I have been using this for a year. I don't think there is anything better than this... 4ms response time is the best for a 2k IPS display you can get at a budget. The 1ms response time monitors come in a TN panel which is not ideal for editing and professional use since the colour aren't accurate. The refresh rate 144Hz out of the box more than enough makes up for the 4ms time. The stand that is not appealing to some has an advantage if you want to move your setup from one place to another. The reason the cost is low in this segment is because it is 1440p display. Not a 4k. A 4k IPS panel with similar specs would cost over 1200$ to 1600$. I bought my xb271hu for 650$.

      This display has very good image quality out of the box so you shouldn't really need to calibrate it unless you're a professional photographer/videographer. Literally all i did in terms of the monitor's settings was drop the brightness. To get any better than how it arrives you'll have to get a hardware colorimeter - the final calibration I did was with DisplayCal using an Xrita i1Display Pro colorimeter.

    Asus pg279q still has serious quality issues, the back light bleed is unacceptable at that price, i have bought and returned 3 of them before trying out the Acer 271hu. The Acer 271hu i received is perfect, no bleed very nice uniform colors only drawback is i prefer the design, OSD and looks of the Asus.

    • @TechyTalkUK
      @TechyTalkUK  6 лет назад

      Because the out of the box image quality was so good on the sample that I reviewed, I didn't change any settings on the monitor except brightness (personal preference). All I did was a final software calibration using a colorimeter and DisplayCal software. As such there aren't any settings I can recommend. What don't you like about the current image quality?

    • @bjrnfrihagen5914
      @bjrnfrihagen5914 6 лет назад

      The whites on my monitor are way too yellow-ish for my taste. I also compared it to my 5k iMac (Maybe not a totally fair comparison, but what the hell), and the blue bar at Facebook for example, looks very washed out. The blue colors don't really pop.
      Or maybe the iMac is over saturated?

    • @TechyTalkUK
      @TechyTalkUK  6 лет назад

      It's possible the iMac is oversaturated - I believe some of them do have high-gamut screens. The only thing I can recommend to fix the white balance is to choose the User color setting and increase the Blue channel. Just a couple of steps should do it. If that doesn't quite do it just experiment changing the channels until you get closer to what you prefer - the fact you have an iMac for reference means you should be able to keep track of things (trying to calibrate without a reference is all but impossible). You shouldn't have to change any one colour channel by more than 10 steps. If you do, you will likely start to reduce image quality in other ways.
