    "Look how far we've come in the last couple of years..." - and THREE years later, we still have these same few monitors available for almost the same prices as in 2015 (if you're looking for a 1440p 144+Hz IPS combo). What the hell happened?

      these monitors hit the limits of dispalayport 1.3 bandwidth, and both displayport and HDMI took their sweet fucking time coming out with a new iteration. it wont be until DP1.5 and HDMI 2.1 that we get something unquestionably better with no trade offs. in the mean time we have the trade-off ridden DP1.4a and HDMI 2.0 to contend with.

      @h3mb3 6 лет назад +26

      @@gameguy301 that's not what I meant. I personally don't care about more pixels or Hz's, I just want more competition for the +144Hz 1440p IPS market

      ***** I've been stuck with a 1200P monitor for over 5 years now and I've been looking to buy a new monitor for ages but technology is just moving too fast. Originally I was going to buy a Korean 1440P monitor then I saw G-sync was coming out so I was going to wait for that. Now 144Hz G-sync is coming out...
      Might just wait for a decent 144Hz 4K monitor and splash all my cash on it.

      Mr. Fuzzums I run a 40 inch Sony TV at 1080p and gaming resolution looks amazing, I don't know what you are talking about. I am debating on going to a 1440p monitor but prefer the 1080p for handing the graphics. 1440p just taxes the hell out of Video cards so you are almost forced to spend 1000 on two cards, bleh.

      I bought the MG279Q the other day and it is magnificent. I cannot see how people are willing to pay the extra $250 for the ROG Swift. The ROG is locked to 35-144hz variable refresh so the extra 21hz to 165 is not even free synced. Also, the MG279Q can be "hacked" easily to do VRR from 60hz-144hz making it nearly identical to the ROG in that respect.
      I am currently running the MG279Q without Freesync enabled (my AMD card is too old) and getting between 110-144fps in games like Overwatch and BFBC2 and it is superb. The colors (IPS), the sharpness and clarity (from the 1440p), and the smooth motion (144hz panel) make for an outstanding windows and gaming experience. My Dell U2412M looks grainy and choppy when I compare the 2 side by side... there is simply no comparison. I can only imagine how good this thing will perform with a GPU upgrade and utilizing Freesync.
      If you are complaining about tearing at ~130fps then you are probably more concerned with eye candy than performance. My guess is anyone complaining about this is not in the competitive/performance gamer mindset. I think it like 95% perfect as is.

    I've owned the ROG Swift for about 3 months, it failed on me after month 2 showing fuzzy text on the left portion of the panel (very common issue). While the ROG is out for repair I decided to pick up the Acer XB280HK for a 4k experience; while I love the 4k real-estate the panel itself is sub-par exhibiting lots of backlight bleed. Boo hoo. Anyways, the XB270HU has certianly grabbed my attention and I plan to place one side by side with the ROG with which it will hopefully replace. Thanks for the great review Linus, you and your team are the easy one-stop-shop for reviews that matter.

      I had 270x's in CF and having a single 290 is a way better experience.Not only do i get better FPS in the games that ran well with the 270x's but the entire experience is way less clunky.I mean i was getting worse FPS in some games with CF on as opposed to it being off.I'd always recommend getting a single higher end GPU rather then two low end ones.

    • @MortiPCM
      @MortiPCM 9 лет назад

      Moldy 1. AMD - SLI works better then Xfire, so if you go for MultiGPUs, go for Nvidia.
      2. Two 270X suck? Realy? Ya might be cause its an entry level gaming card. Try it with real gaming GPUs and it will blow you away.
      Why you should have higher resolution? See more, play better. I used to play BF3 with a resolution of 6100x1200. people called me hacker cause i saw them comming from my side. Yes, better resolution gives you a larger field of view.

    To be fair... that monitor is very generic looking. At least the RoG Swift looks enthusiast grade and the stand is heavy and solid. This Acer monitor looks like all the others out there, looks like a 27inch, 60hz, 1080p monitor for £130.

      Idk. I'm using the swift and I feel like g-sync and 144hz can't be beat except for giving it an IPS panel... So this is pretty much as good as it gets and I would get this instantly if I wasn't already happy with the swift.

    • @Xardas105
      @Xardas105 9 лет назад +8

      ***** A monitor usually lasts for 5 years+ and its one of the most important parts for your pc. I will say it's justified, while a gpu usually last for around 2 years. Besides that titan x isn't worth it if you just wait for the 390x or 980ti.

    • @ihatemadmoe
      @ihatemadmoe 9 лет назад +1

      Xardas105 You can get a 27" 1440p IPS monitor for $250, overclock it to 144hz and you have the same product minus g-sync. Only deluded idiots would spend $800 on a single monitor.

    • @Xardas105
      @Xardas105 9 лет назад +3

      ihatemadmoe I know which monitor you are talking about mate. I have a friend that has one of those monitors, he managed to oc it only to 100hz. First of all those monitors are a risk not all can overclock to 144hz not like that matters alot, but the main issue with those oc monitors is that they really fuck up the colors. When you OC those monitors they turn from decent ips panels to really crappy ips panels. Linus said in the video is that this is one of the best ips monitors that he has ever tried, it almost sounds like it was a april fools. I would rather have this monitor with a op ips panel vs a panel thats pretty bad after OC.

    • @Xardas105
      @Xardas105 9 лет назад +1

      ihatemadmoe However I do also agree with you. The price they are asking for is ALOT, only worth for those who can really afford it and it's a better choice over the asus rog 144hz 1440p monitor which comes at the same price.

  • @guybrushthreepwood3002
    @guybrushthreepwood3002 8 лет назад

    Had mine a couple of weeks now, I was a bit nervous spending so much on a monitor, especially given some of the quality issues surrounding this model. But there's no dead pixels and just a very faint bit of ips glow in the bottom right, which I had to look pretty hard to spot. G-Sync is awesome with 144hz is awesome, and paired with my 980ti it really shines. Image quality from the panel itself is superb. Only thing that taints is, is the glossy black, but it's still a smart looking piece of kit. If anyone is thinking about it, it's money well spent.

    There's a Freesync version of this monitor coming out as well, but it's a TN panel.

    As far as I can see it, the SWIFT Looks better, designed visually and mechanically better for gaming, has 1 ms response time, and also confirmed Flicker Free. Pros are the TN panel, although I have to say I have a big long room, and it's rarely an issue, wide angels for TN and good image.

      it has far better QC than this one and it has the zero frame design which i think is even better than the ASUS one and also the 165Hz overclock and now you get a DisplayPort and an HDMI port (G-SYNC v2), much better UI than this one, no more glossy panels and its much cheaper compared to the ASUS PG279Q.....

    I actually bought the XB270HU as b-stock / exhibition piece for 30% off (477 EUR). Since i was used to my old TN monitor, the image quality on this one just blew me away. The white is super neutral, the black is very black and the colors look very differentiated and natural.
    (By the way, to get the blacks to be really black in videos, you have to adjust the player settings or let the nvidia control panel handle the video settings and set it to full dynamic range.)
    There is no obvious backlight bleed on mine, but there is some "IPS glow" in the corners when i get close while looking at a dark image. I usually don't notice. (It only happens if you watch an IPS panel at a flat angle, which is the case when you get very close to the monitor and look at the corners -- and i do like to get very close.)
    As i ran a programm testing for dead pixels, i found at least one plus some specs of dust. I would't have noticed if i had not looked very thoroughly.
    I am very happy with this one.

    Love the videos Linus, just a small correction on this one. AdaptiveSync is the extension within the open standard. FreeSync is AMD's closed/proprietary implementation of that optional functionality of the DP 1.2a.

    I was considering the new ASUS monitor, but I read some really bad reviews about the ASUS Rog Swift and the only other possibility to play 1440p at 144Hz is this other monitor from Acer. Which one is better? And do you think is it worth it to buy one of this monitors right now or wait a couple of months for some new arrivals, since neither of this monitors is perfect?

    LOL, still in conflict choosing between the Asus RoG swift PG278Q or the Acer Predator XB270HU. I just got my new PC last day.
    Specs:
    GPU: GTX 980 MSI
    CPU: Intel i7 4790
    PSU: Corsair RM 750W
    Motherboard: MSI Z97 GAMING 7
    RAM: DDR3 1600MHz 8 GB
    SSD: Crucial 250 GB
    HDD: Seagate 2TB
    Water cooling: Corsair Cooling Hydro H60
    Help me out decide. I would like to have a 1440p display and 144 Hz possible. Which one to go for? I've heard many bad things regarding the build quality of the Acer IPS monitor.

    maybe in the future we can use ULMB and G-Sync at the same time, can't they make strobing speed change with the refresh rate (100Hz to 144Hz, maybe even as low as 85Hz or 75Hz if the user would be okay with that) i would also like to see G-Sync/Free Sync hybrid monitors that support both (even if not at the same time)

    Allright this video just convinced me to buy the Acer. I was torn between the Dell TN panel with almost same specs and this one who just dropped in price and they made the frame matt and added a mecha-ish stand. IM SOLD!!

    I like the tech in this but I HATE the glossy base and bezel. If I had three of these in a surround setup, they would live on an Ergotech stand and I'd use the unofficial LinusTechTips anti-gloss trick. My other problem is that I don't feel like I'd have the ego to say I game on this. The ROG Swift is badass in every way but this, doesn't really hit that same spot
