Yup, it's been pretty cool to be involved since the start! I never had the dedication for hundreds of levels like iphone has, but I generally like to put a much greater amount of time into each project.

Oh this is so cute! Feels refreshing to see positive Scratch discourse online after years of having my childhood hobby bashed as Dumb and Cringe jdsjk. Been on Scratch for 10 years. It has led me to meet all my best online friends, and pique enough interest in programming in me as to now have it be my actual job. This website and community have shaped so many kids lives, and I'm happy to see outsiders getting it!

As a person who used Scratch for the first time back in 2014, I can remember Griffpatch as an unbelievably talented game developer inside and outside scratch, i believe he is the website’s most followed user and dosent even realize the heights his creation has reached

As someone who doesn’t have access to the full version of GD, I’m really thankful for the level recreations on Scratch.
Scratch is always one of the more fun websites to browse when you're feeling down. Whether it's playing all of those platformers using the same few templates, or Geometry Dash level clones, or anything else you can find, you can always tell there's heart put into it. There's even an entire project on there dedicated to adapting one of Griffpatch's platformer templates to recreate Celeste! I'd love to see you talk more about Geometry Dash clones, it was one of my favorite series back in the day.

there's also an app similar to scratch called fancade, it's somewhat more complicated than scratch and has a pixel art style. it has a small but wibrant fanbase and making spheres in the game proves that you are a god

Fun fact: Scratch's remix feature can be abused to reupload someone else's game. If you remix, change nothing, and share with no credit, you reupload the game and even break the guidelines.

I remember when Griffpatch released geometry dash, I was so amazed at how accurate a recreation it was and how well it preformed. Scratch is an interpreted language written in Javascript, so performance is terrible and you have to squeak every bit out of it to get anything serious to perform well, the core codebase he made is a pretty impressive feat.

As a scratcher who has been on the platform since 2018, this breaks my heart. It is challenging to make anything on there, it takes lots of effort. And to see some random websites profiting off of hard work that was done with no payment expected just makes me want to cry. Scratch is always misunderstood so I'm glad to finally see a RUclipsr who actually respects the platform and doesn't hate on it.

I played the Scratch version of Geometry Dash Press Start, and it was not even the full level, however, it is insanely hard to make, especially since it has a little bit of Geometry Dash 2.2 since it's Sub-zero.

4:12 I know a bit about Scratch and that bug has happened to me, it happens when the game is trying to load looped audio but it just plays the first tenth of the song for a long time until it actually loads
I love how you make content off of the things people wouldn’t really notice about Geometry Dash and anything similar to it. It makes your content unique and way more entertaining to watch rather than demon completions or challenges.

@@GDColon I wouldn't say the site itself is bad, it's just the bad games on there, the interface, and the fact that Scratch is targeted towards young users that gives it a bad reputation.
@@AustynL Also the fact that almost every game on there has Bastia to no decoration, but the levels are still fun. It still might leave some kids wondering why killbot looks cooler in the thumbnail than the level.

I remember that, I always used to play this one on scratch when I would be in school on a pc (once a week we would have a computer hour working on scratch)
Not gonna lie, when i first watch a few of colon’s videos i thought he was one of those entitled creators that shit on every aspect of the game and feel like they are better because of it, but the more i watched i realized this guy was only filled with valid takes. Before I had the first version of geometry dash, I wanted to create my own levels, so I went to scratch for it. I went to griffpatch first and went “never mind, this editor is way too difficult.” Its kind of heartwarming to see a passionate community recreating levels in scratch.
btw the horrendus noise is supposed to be the menu music, but the start of the song glitches so it plays the fist 0.05 ish seconds over and over again.
The game called “Geometry dash lite old version” has what is probably the best song I’ve heard in a GD level which is a remix of Can’t Let Go, called “Never Give Up”.
The level is basically a FNF B-Sides, or Super Mario Bros the Lost Levels kind of thing, which is a slightly more difficult version of the original.
Can't wait for someone to recreate the Limbo randomizer on Scratch now that it's been verified

Really good video! I feel as we both made very similar videos but you went a lot more in-depth on the crazy scratch levels which I didn't even realise went THAT deep, i feel like I brushed over it WAYY too much. Crazy how a bunch of random kids are making these geometry dash scratch levels but suddenly there's just some small community that makes a ton of levels for it. Really cool imo.
Oh my god i used to make gd scratch levels too. Cometely forgot about this but i talked with hoppingicon and chikomastr on more than 1 occasion and i think there might even be a comment from iphone on one of my custom levels

I remember how there was legit FNAF2 recreation on Scratch that has spread to all sorts of game sites. I don't know how accurate it was to the actual game, but darn, it felt like real fnaf in the browser.
I watched some kids play it in primary school, it was almost a 1-1 replica of Scott’s original game.

i am an avid Scratcher, GD player, and hater of ripoff websites and i found that this video was heartwarming and perfect for me. My game on scratch was put on the front page, but I still enjoy it when people like Colon elevate it like this. Amazing video, Colon, and keep doing things that GD youtubers have never done before!

For the longest time, "Geometry Dash fake websites" meant "Websites hosting the Impossible Game Demo" to me. I was aware of the Scratch recreation, and even became aware of the remixes that brought over popular custom levels into the engine. I was not aware of the fake website that had custom levels, but it's interesting to see it adapt to the changing Internet standards. (Screw these fake websites, though. Everything about them is scummy.)

that is insane, we work with scratch in our class, and im probably not even seeing the limit of scratch.
I definitely remember griffpatch's GD and other game recreations, as well as the multiple remixes of the GD recreation that add new levels. It even inspired me to make my own GD clone 4 or 5 years ago. I also remember making another GD clone years ago where you're just the wave endlessly dodging squares, which somehow even managed to be on the Scratch front-page for a day. Quickly after the first wave game got successful, I spent months making a sequel to it and was soon devastated to see it reach only a very small fraction of the success that the original made. Looking back, all of the GD clones that I made were VERY barebones (especially the first two, one being made in an hour on New Year's and the other being made in a few hours), but they all still had effort & love put into them... I don't really know where I was going with this so I'll just type that just because something is bad doesn't mean that there was no love or effort put into it.

You should see what people have done with scratch. Fully functional fnaf remakes with the original animations, super mario world levels, undertale... The list goes on. It's actually a lot more fun to learn and create stuff there than you might expect

I used to be a part of this scratch community. I never made any levels, but I played them and had some fun. There are a ton of animations programmed into scratch, heck, even a WIP platformer game with a different art style. You unlocked a hidden memory. I literally recognized all of these names!

I didn’t know that these were a thing but I’m glad they are acknowledging that some people can’t afford the full game. This is a great idea.
I actually used to play this scratch version (not on the fake site, but on scratch.) I knew it was a recreation. But I got invested into it, and I was eager to play the whole game. So, the scratch game led me to buy the real thing. When I first got the real geometry dash, I thought the scratch and real versions were very similar. Nowadays, I can see that the scratch one is vastly different.
When I found out about Geometry Dash, I searched it up and went to the same exact url. But a few years ago, it was just griffpatch's Geometry Dash project. No other online levels, just that.
When you started covering Scratch much deeper in the video I was actually stunned, never in my life would I think a youtuber would do this.

Also yes, sometimes coding stuff with Scratch is hard, but if you know what you're doing, it becomes more bearable
