As a scratcher of 6 years now, im so glad that someone on here finally respects the craft here and it's colon! I used to have over 3000 projects shared (ive since then regrettably unshared them)
@Keaton Richards i said what i said, 3000 is right. it was most of the end bit of my childhood so i used it daily i still use it daily lmao but my golden days are over meaning i dont work on projects and finish them as often.
I definitely remember griffpatch's GD and other game recreations, as well as the multiple remixes of the GD recreation that add new levels. It even inspired me to make my own GD clone 4 or 5 years ago. I also remember making another GD clone years ago where you're just the wave endlessly dodging squares, which somehow even managed to be on the Scratch front-page for a day. Quickly after the first wave game got successful, I spent months making a sequel to it and was soon devastated to see it reach only a very small fraction of the success that the original made. Looking back, all of the GD clones that I made were VERY barebones (especially the first two, one being made in an hour on New Year's and the other being made in a few hours), but they all still had effort & love put into them... I don't really know where I was going with this so I'll just type that just because something is bad doesn't mean that there was no love or effort put into it.
I remember how there was legit FNAF2 recreation on Scratch that has spread to all sorts of game sites. I don't know how accurate it was to the actual game, but darn, it felt like real fnaf in the browser.
I used to be a part of this scratch community. I never made any levels, but I played them and had some fun. There are a ton of animations programmed into scratch, heck, even a WIP platformer game with a different art style. You unlocked a hidden memory. I literally recognized all of these names!
I remember that, I always used to play this one on scratch when I would be in school on a pc (once a week we would have a computer hour working on scratch)
When you started covering Scratch much deeper in the video I was actually stunned, never in my life would I think a youtuber would do this. Great job Colon! Also yes, sometimes coding stuff with Scratch is hard, but if you know what you're doing, it becomes more bearable
As someone who's had a scratch account for nearly 7 years and has been active on the website for a good part of them (even if I've kinda grown out of it nowadays), it's so awesome how you actually take time to appreciate the amount of effort and patience it takes to make this kind of stuff on the Scratch editor unlike a lot of people who just demonize these recreations for being "scuffed". Not enough people recognize how hard it is to recreate something like Geometry Dash on Scratch, even if it's just recreating levels and using someone else's code as a base, it all requires a lot of patience because Scratch is just so limited, it's not something like Unity, in fact, it's definitely not among the best engines for gaming in general, these recreations deserve praise and respect for all the effort that's put into them regardless of how well they work :)
1:13 as a terraria x gd x minecraft fan (also called a big child) I don't think that's far from 2d minecraft as griffpatch has made 2 versions of terraria one of them (the one you used in the clip) being more of a retextured paper minecraft game. It's got the same size system (with the player being 1x2 blocks instead of 2x3 blocks) as in minecraft and overall doesn't work like terraria. His other terraria game on the other hand is basically just terraria in the limits of scratch. In other words I'll spare your life with this one :D
Really interesting video. I was in a part of the GD community on scratch a good while back that was different, being more animation-focused - kinda makes this video kind of nostalgic to watch. Definitely came across this stuff at some point when on the site. It's cool learning about the sort of history behind it - and even cooler it's still going on today!
Honestly, though I despise those scam websites so much (too much), I, as a Griffpatch supporter think that Scratch is rather bad because of its moderation and that half of the projects are made without care. Thank you for telling me the real point, which is even if it looks low quality, it is still good if it is made with care. UwU
also 13:38 idk why but i always forget and re-remember the fact that the rest of the english-speaking word calls it "zed" english letter names are a real poopshow. "h" and "w" don't even contain their own sounds (except for h in british, irish, australian, kiwi, etc.), "r" is just called "ah" in certain dialects, "y" and "u" being "wai" and "yu", etc.
If you're referring to those ripoffs you see on the app store, I'm not too sure where they came from, but I'm excited to see what you have to say about them, also, congrats on 400K!
as IPhone said: I got into making GD levels on scratch started in 2017 for the people who really want the GD paid app full versions but can't get it at all. That's when I started. (14:48)
4:11 It's because if you use a repeat trigger for the menu, you have to make it so that it's "play menu music and wait". Then it will play it and when it's done, start playing again. But he probably used "play menu music". So it constantly plays it and doesn't wait until the next one so you hear it starting every time the frame refreshes.
Iphone putting 2k+ hours into recreating levels for likely kids who can't buy the full game is so heartwarming, considering this rabbithole began at a scam site. Great video as always!
Colon, I love the pacing in this. I know you said on your Twitter that you were concerned about it but this genuinely hilarious. Keep up the good work 😁
You should see what people have done with scratch. Fully functional fnaf remakes with the original animations, super mario world levels, undertale... The list goes on. It's actually a lot more fun to learn and create stuff there than you might expect
I would've never expected a well-known Geometry Dash RUclipsr to dive into the GD Scratch community, let alone praise it. As someone who used to be a part of this community a few years ago, back before I even had the full game, it's really impressive how large and active it is, especially with how many people play and build these levels. While I myself am a bit embarrassed at my own Scratch profile nowadays, I was able to meet some really cool people that I'm still good friends with to this day, most notably Hoppingicon. Hopefully iPhone is doing well, but anyways, really well-made and well-researched video as always Colon, keep it up! :D *_also foxboy supremacy uwu :3_*

@Keaton Richards i said what i said, 3000 is right.
it was most of the end bit of my childhood so i used it daily
i still use it daily lmao but my golden days are over meaning i dont work on projects and finish them as often.
You only SCRATCHED the surface get it? Get it? LAUGH RN OR DIE
I really like how you actually appreciate scratch! That made you stand out

I don't really know where I was going with this so I'll just type that just because something is bad doesn't mean that there was no love or effort put into it.
it's an art form

My friends at school can’t beat stereo madness on scratch
I remember how there was legit FNAF2 recreation on Scratch that has spread to all sorts of game sites. I don't know how accurate it was to the actual game, but darn, it felt like real fnaf in the browser.
I watched some kids play it in primary school, it was almost a 1-1 replica of Scott’s original game.
i seen that aswell
Can't wait for someone to recreate the Limbo randomizer on Scratch now that it's been verified
wait, fr?
Hi sdslayer
binkus
I used to be a part of this scratch community. I never made any levels, but I played them and had some fun. There are a ton of animations programmed into scratch, heck, even a WIP platformer game with a different art style. You unlocked a hidden memory. I literally recognized all of these names!
I remember that, I always used to play this one on scratch when I would be in school on a pc (once a week we would have a computer hour working on scratch)
When you started covering Scratch much deeper in the video I was actually stunned, never in my life would I think a youtuber would do this.
Great job Colon!
Also yes, sometimes coding stuff with Scratch is hard, but if you know what you're doing, it becomes more bearable
оаоао луни знает гд колона

ayyy it’s the guy
You, iphone and Hopping icon are amazing people!
I cant await your future projects
Yo colon, pin this comment
i love your subzero recreation!!! : D
As a Scratch developer(kinda), I'm glad you're giving it some recognition
I feel like scratch is harder to use than other game making engines since it has alot of limitations for people to code different stuff like physics..
@@usibistro it might be, it’s just that I’m used to the engine after several years of programming with it
3:04 We need more people like this. Companies like Nintendo would probably hire a hitman if they saw something like that
I didn’t know that these were a thing but I’m glad they are acknowledging that some people can’t afford the full game. This is a great idea.
BRO Nexus's icon in the background on B made me laugh so hard

UwU
also 13:38 idk why but i always forget and re-remember the fact that the rest of the english-speaking word calls it "zed"
english letter names are a real poopshow. "h" and "w" don't even contain their own sounds (except for h in british, irish, australian, kiwi, etc.), "r" is just called "ah" in certain dialects, "y" and "u" being "wai" and "yu", etc.
It’s so sad that AMAZING Scratch creators like Griffpatch just get their game stolen and put into different websites.

If you're referring to those ripoffs you see on the app store, I'm not too sure where they came from, but I'm excited to see what you have to say about them, also, congrats on 400K!
15:21 caught me off guard istg 💀 literally one of the funniest RUclips moments I have confronted
as IPhone said: I got into making GD levels on scratch started in 2017 for the people who really want the GD paid app full versions but can't get it at all. That's when I started.

a part 7 to gd clones would be really cool to see, especially with all the improvements you've made in your videos since that series.

Griffpatch has a youtube channel and he uploads tons of highly edited high quality tutorials now. That guy is a legend.
8:29 as a Canadian this was a perfect recreation of Canada, I walk outside every day and it’s nothing but 6 feet of snow and jpgs of Tim Hortons
As the state of Germany I can agree

I’m Canadian and it felt wierd hearing a large content creatior mention my country

It's like a dream come true!
For reallll
