I enjoyed this. I was a charcoal burner in England for a number of years. Only rarely used an earth clamp like the one in the film. I mostly used a steel ring kiln. Cleaner, quicker burning time, and easier to manage. These days a lot of colliers are using retorts.
in south east asia......we burning charcoal like crazy. a lot of woods and cheap than gas that's one household can use. a bamboo charcoal for metal works and any wood for normal consumption.
Missed an important step. Is the wood lit or does it generate it's own heat and ignite from being compressed, like dung generates heat from decay for making moonshine.
@Jon Miguel Good question! Once the wood pile is finished, it is lit and burns down very slowly, since there is very little oxygen available...We should have shown the lighting of the pile, sorry.
Hendrik’s hard work registered on his face and hands…black charcoal!!! Good job Hendrik👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Germans are a practical people. Charcoal family dresses top to bottom in Black.
Why do you think they are the last of their kind? A smoky barbecua will always be cool. 😎
Modern charcoal kilns are automated metal contraptions.
Foreign imports.
This tecchnic is also used tradionaly in india 😮
I want to go to Germany and do this
You can go to Brazil and do this just as well, in place of the child labor we use there. After all Europe needs new steel made electric cars!
Did I say anything about Brazil chump?..I said Germany and do not care about any other place to do this.
nor child labor... chump. This is just glamurization of a practice that distroy forests and lives.
Mind your business boy!..nobody asked you
Nobody asked where you wanted to go either and yet, here we are because, SURPRISE, this is a public network... who would imagine huh... boy?
