To be clear, I still love US Mobile and think they offer great plans. This data cap on their unlimited plan was inevitable; US Mobile was literally losing hundreds of dollars on subscribers using terabytes of data per month. It didn't make sense to have the low-usage people subsidizing the 0.1% of ultra-high data users. So, while I'm disappointed by the change, it makes a lot of sense.
I also realize the ending of this video was pretty harsh for US Mobile promising features that aren't ready. I realize developing eSIM support, UWB 5G access, visual voicemail, and building new plans takes a TON of time, energy, and effort. I want to offer my encouragement and support to the US Mobile team to bring those features to their customers and make their service that much more amazing 💪🏻
However, I also want to encourage US Mobile to STOP marketing features that are not ready yet. _Expectations are the thief of joy_ . Tell us about a feature when it's ready, and we'll get excited about it 😉

Other MVNO’s are able to offer services like eSIM, mmWave, and visual voicemail. In the end it comes down to execution. MNO’s are simply better at execution. They are able to offer premium services with better call quality, data speed, and network reliability because of their ability to build and control the networks. The MNO’s are also able to snuff out things like PDANet. Meanwhile US Mobile hasn’t figured out how to offer WiFi Calling and Visual VoiceMail on GSM LTE for iPhones when he all know that Mint and other MVNO’s offer that on that same GSM LTE network which we all know is T-Mobile.

The reason these plans are being capped is because it’s absolutely batshit losses for the companies who offer these. Users try to get rid of their ISP and tether everything to their phones which wrecks the network quality.
They just don’t have a choice

    • @StetsonDoggett
      @StetsonDoggett  3 года назад +14

Unfortunately, yes. MVNOs are SOL when it comes to offering truly unlimited data. Unless you're a flanker carrier, there is no way to provide truly unlimited data without suffering huge losses.

Kinda dumb to have a plan like that and then add that and not offer a way for a customer to pay more to remove that cap maybe?
$52/mo all taxes and fees included gets me unlimited priority LTE, unlimited hotspot at full speed and it just works. Thats my AT&T line. I get 250-280Mbps Down, 60-80Mbps Up at home with AT&T when I only get 3G and spotty service with US Cellular.
(US Cellular still operates their 3G network with a full 5x5Mhz B5 or B2 deployment because their LTE gaps are so wide. In my case, 3G is faster than LTE on US Cellular)
My secondary line is an old US Cellular unlimited plan with 100GB priority, then throttles to 1Mbps. (It includes unlimited hotspot as well.. same priority as on-device usage) for $25/line w/ 7 lines.
The downside- US Cellular has garbage in-network coverage in 3/4 of their market and don't pay for any level of priority with roaming except on AT&T.

If they were paying Verizon per gigabyte then why would they offer INFINITE gigabytes? If 99.9% of customers use less than 75GB as they claim, then what would've been the harm in offering "up to 75GB" initially with the plan? 99.9% of the demographic wouldn't have been put off by this.

I agree with their decision. The mobile plan was not, in any way, intended to be home internet replacement with 4 to 6 people using the same internet instead of one person. It's a loophole that I'm glad US Mobile patch so actual consumers who use it "fairly" are not affected. Let's be honest here, it's almost never the case that you pass 75GB on mobile data if you have internet on home.
Hell, both WiFi and mobile data usage of my phone is just 36 GB last month (I'm a pretty heavy user who spend so many hours watching RUclips during pandemic + summer break).

Plus US Mobile isn't even priority data, if they gave the option for priority data then I'd definitely understand and change my opinion. Guess we will see if they keep their word in q4... I've been using US Mobile the past year and I really do notice in the middle of the day when it's the busiest, my speeds are stupidly slow and unusable... Great video as always Stetson! 👏👏

Promises rarely last long with these companies unfortunately. 75gb is more than enough for most on any given month. 1 Megabyte I believe is a lot higher than the 2G speeds most companies generally drop people to. I think you can still stream RUclips videos at 480p, not sure about 720p. Surfing the internet shouldn't cause any delays or buffering. You can't do neither with 2G speeds. Still I hate to see companies break their promises, but I understand it's going to happen.

Great choice about AT&T Elite. My wife and I are really satisfied. It is much better than T Mobile and we don't get dropped calls, we gave faster speeds, I travel a lot and AT&T data has worked everywhere which T Mobile had many places it didn't, and so far far the customer service is the best I have ever had with a phone plan.

I know you talk to the founder time and again. Here is my feedback as a recent subscriber of USMobile.
For multiple lines, I cannot add the names of the individual line owners. On my previous prepaid service, I was allowed to. This means, as a primary holder, my name is on the account, and if something happens to me, the remaining people on the account may not be able to make changes.
Best solution for this is to allow you to enter the name /email of secondary line holders, so they can take control and leave the family without getting authorization from primary.
Alternatively, require a separate account per line and then allow formation of groups with limited size (or maybe unlimited size)
Ideally, everyone should follow Visible's lead and throw away different price per line depending on group size.
If Visible offered limited tiers for less than $30, I would go with them. Honestly, even at $30, it might be better to go with Visible given they have truly unlimited and hotspot included.
